04.01.2022 Today as President of the Australian Fishing Trade Association, I put out to the Rec Fishing Industry a email that has the following statement in it. It is impo...rtant that our industry leads by way of example from all our wholesalers, retailers and especially media. We must keep our message of it is a privilege at the moment to go fishing, not a right, if we don't abide by local COVID-19 guidelines then this privilege will be taken away! Some of the industry's so-called influences are fighting the decisions made by state governments and suggesting that we don’t go fishing. All I know is that the government have put more thought into what we can and can’t do than any of us or these social media personalities, so as such, while the government allows us to go fishing and we abide by the rules, then AFTA has no problem with promoting responsible fishing, which is why these social media adverts have been put out, an example of one is posted here. Please follow the rules, if you dont need to go fishing this Easter then dont, if you go follow the rules, stay local and follow social distancing rules and remember currently it is a privilege to go fishing so dont wreck it for everyone! Please no negative comments in this post, all I am doing is following goverment guidelines and if fishing is not allowed and I will strictly follow that decision also.
