24.01.2022 Drinking great coffee for those in remote parts of WA can sometimes be hard work. Shipping in beans, often waiting for weeks for them to arrive, then you’re faced with issues around storage, water quality and limited equipment. We are here to help. Saturday 19th together with @thezookeepersstore & @harveynormanau we will be hosting a workshop on how to make incredible coffee at home. Limited tickets and more information through Zookeepers Broome (includes a bag of beans).

23.01.2022 What a wild few weeks it has been out there in hospo land. We are so grateful that our trolley keeps on rolling each week, albeit with a little lighter load than normal. We have so much admiration for customers right now. The businesses (or more specifically the people that run them) we work with have shown so much resilience and tenacity having faced a multitude of new challenges recently. We are so proud to be in this industry working alongside them. Thank you also to those that support these businesses. Our supply chain runs a long way from here so sneaking out of the house for your daily (socially distanced) coffee run positively impacts a lot of people... so we hope the barista makes you an especially good one. @ Perth, Western Australia

22.01.2022 Everyone deserves a Christmas ice cream today. Have a holly jolly festive period everyone from the Micrology fam.

21.01.2022 We’re helping to build a playground! For the last few months showcasing this years incredible selection of Rwandan coffees has also been in support of the @the_umuvumuproject whereby $1 from every bag goes towards the construction of a playground for the Umuvu kindergarten at the Nyarusiza washing station in Rwanda. There are 168 kids aged between 3 to 6 who accompany their parents while they work on the coffee fields. Early last year @bufcoffee built these kids a kindy and this year, with a group of roasters around Australia we are going to fund the playground for the kids that go there. (Maybe one day we can upgrade this to a skatepark, but that’s probably a little while off). If you want to show some love jump onto the link in our bio and donate. @ Rwanda

08.01.2022 This month we have the privilege to showcase some exceptional and rare Bolivian microlots. This week was produced by Carmela Aduviri in a remote settlement in the Caranavi province which is the primary region for speciality coffee production in Bolivia with incredibly high altitudes, rich soil and wide ranging temperatures. Typically farms in this region are small with all work done by the farm owners and a few relatives with all belong to the indigenous Aymara people. Carmel...a has worked in coffee for over 40 years whilst raising her seven children. She now manages the farm with her son Elvis. After selectively picking their top-grade coffee cherries they are taken to be processed in partnership with Agricafe at the Buena Vista wet mill. Production of coffee across Bolivia has unfortunately decreased substantially with a risk of it completely disappearing due to a combination of ageing coffee plantations, the effect of leaf rust and the proliferation of the competing coca industry used to produce cocaine. To try to save the future of coffee production across Bolivia Agricafe aims to build the market for Bolivian specialty coffee by providing producer training programs and building advanced wet and dry mills. They have also started a project called Sol de la Manana (translates as morning sun) which shared knowledge and technical assistance to local coffee producers to help them with efficient and modern farming practices. Through the program Carmela has built a vibrant coffee nursery to prune, feed and manage her coffee plantation in order to increase yield. Prior to participating in the program five years ago she was making around $1000 a year from coffee and was forced to illegally grow coca to support her income. Now she is able to make over $20,000 per year just from coffee production. Carmela and her family carefully selected each cherry for this microlot and hand polished each one before delivering them to the wet mill. After the coffee cherries are carefully inspected at the Buena Vista wet mill, they are washed and laid out to dry on raised beds and turned every hour. After about one week they are placed in a unique Coco dryer for further drying. @ Provincia de Caranavi See more

06.01.2022 It’s terribly nice not to have lids on every flat white we drink these days. Stay a while @littlesohocoffeeco

04.01.2022 We just brewed our last batch of a very special coffee we released to our wholesale fam over the past few weeks. This extra special 240kg Java microlot comes from a relatively new Bolivian farm called La Llama. Owned by the Rodríguez family (who also run Agricafe). Production involves hiring special hand pickers from the local community who take multiple passes over the farm ensuring to pick only the very ripest, almost purple cherries. They are laid on raised ‘African beds’ ...and turned every hour and subsequently dried in a Coco Dryer. The dried coffee is then hulled and sorted using special machinery and by hand under UV and natural light. The Java varietal originated in Indonesia and is sought after for its floral, complex flavour profile. Bolivian coffees are always so exciting although very limited given how hard it is to get coffee from the region. Fortunately working with @melbcoffeemerch who have deep long standing relationships in Bolivia who have sourced coffee from the Agricafe and the Rodríguez family for many years. @ Caranavi Municipality See more
