01.01.2022 FIRST HOUSE TO BE CLEARED AS PART OF STATE AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BUSHFIRE CLEAN-UP Bulldozers are on the ground south of Taree, where there’s abou...t 40 homes to be cleared. Peter Hassell, whose house at Koorainghat south of Taree, was destroyed by fires last year is the first to benefit from the operation to clear bushfire destroyed properties. The state and federal government is splitting the cost of this state-wide clean up operation. Deputy Premier John Barilaro, who is also the minister responsible for disaster recovery, says it’s hoped this work across the state will be finished by the end of the financial year. Each home is expected to take 2-3 days to clear, and a big focus is on hiring local contractors to undertake the work.
