19.01.2022 Another whirlwind week here at Midcoast Family Day Care as we head closer to the end of a busy year. This week we have remembered those that fought for our future on Remembrance Day, taking a moment of silence and used our engineering skills to build and construct some bee hotels for Australian Pollinator Week, supporting our natural land inhabitants. Finally we have celebrated NAIDOC week by connecting, being and sharing with others. So many wonderful experiences to be par...t of in our local communities. I wonder what we will get up to next week!

08.01.2022 Keep asking yourself and your team why the kids just won’t listen? How many times a day are they expected to do things they just don’t want to do? Whenever I ...catch myself getting frustrated with children and annoyed they’re not listening, it’s always because of the expectations I’ve put on them then within my own mind. What are some of the ways you adapt your routines, transitions and overall expectations to meet children’s individual needs? One example I can think of is: if expecting all children to eat together on a mat or to come together for a mat session and some want to sit away from the group, let them do it! Perhaps your approaches and the way you talk to children and interact with them in the group time isn’t all that appealing, so children aren’t keen on hanging around. Or maybe instead of making all children engage in the same way, we need to think about how to support the children who don’t enjoy our routines and transitions, in different ways. I want to sit with people who are nice, kind, warm, understanding and approachable, not people that keep telling me to do stuff, correcting my every move and calling me out in front of my peers for misbehaving.
