25.01.2022 An important message on World Children's Day... In Australia a 10 year old child can be arrested, charged and imprisoned. Prisons traumatise children and increase their chances of getting into more trouble, not less. Medical experts maintain that children under 14 years do not possess the neurological maturity to form criminal intent. The ACT’s Legislative Assembly recently voted to raise the age of legal responsibility from 10 to 14 years. This video has been made by youth, ...social services and justice advocates to raise awareness of this issue and move people to call on the remaining states and territories to follow the ACT's lead and #RaiseTheAge. "Because children belong in playgrounds, not prisons." If you'd like to send a letter to your local MP, you can use this link... It takes one minute, all you need to do is enter your address and the form does all the work for you. bit.ly/raisetheagewasc @wortha2ndchance https://fb.watch/1SzEZaZmGK/

24.01.2022 Today we have in one room some of the most passionate, innovative and committed change makers the Mid Coast has to offer. We’re talking about the systems that are meant to serve us, that are letting us down and how we change that. The work is hard, but anything worthwhile generally is.

24.01.2022 As we've been looking into the issue of health and screening services for children in the Midcoast we've come across this very useful piece of information which we need to share with you. Through our advocacy work around Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) services in this region we know that travel and accommodation are not only inconvenient and disruptive to family life but also very expensive when parents and carers are forc...ed to travel away to access surgical procedures and services for their children. NSW Health offer the (#IPTAAS). This scheme provides financial assistance towards travel and accommodation costs when a patient needs to travel long distances for treatment that is not available locally. To be eligible for IPTAAS, a patient must: Be a resident of NSW or Lord Howe Island Be enrolled with Medicare Not be receiving, or eligible for, financial assistance for travel and accommodation from third party insurance or other Australian government services Be referred for treatment at their nearest health service Receive treatment at an approved health service Travel from their residence for treatment at least 100km (one way), or at least 200kms in a week by making multiple trips to and from treatment. You can find out more about this scheme by visiting http://www.iptaas.health.nsw.gov.au/about #healthscreening #earlyyears #TheFirst2000Days #HealthyKids
