24.01.2022 This week we celebrate NAIDOC Week. All students participated in a virtual excursion hosted and facilitated by Sydney Zoo. Bungarribee Dreaming, hosted by Indigenous guides, shared stories and activities that provided students with knowledge of culture, heritage and language. Our students have been regularly immersed in indigenous texts but a special selection is on display in our library this week. #NAIDOC2020 #alwayswasalwayswillbe

15.01.2022 In celebration of the start of Book Week, today was the first meeting of the MGPS 3-6 Bookclub! Organised by our Student Ambassador, Lourdes Wakim, Bookclub kicked off with a 'Book Tasting' (in our Book Cafe), where we sampled books of different genres and themes. It was a close call, but The Turners by Mick Elliott was voted in as our first reading selection... how exciting that we got to meet the author of our very first Bookclub choice! Bookclub will meet every 2 weeks to discuss the group book, recommend other great books we have been reading, write reviews and share our love of reading with each other. We can not wait to share our thoughts and reviews with everyone!

07.01.2022 SAFETY UPDATE Dear Parents and Caregivers, Yesterday we had an incident with a vehicle and a student in the kiss and drop zone.... Please know that there are no serious injuries and everyone is now okay. Many students and community members witnessed the incident, or saw emergency services providing support to the school. I am strongly reminding every adult in our community to observe the following: Slow down. Ensure your children are in the correct child restraints (car seats and seatbelts) for their age. Do not allow any child to move around the vehicle unrestrained, or from the back to the front. Do not remove seatbelts or open car doors until the vehicle has stopped safely. Only get out of a car on the passenger side, next to the footpath this is called the safety door. Get out of your car to help your child open and close doors and to collect and put on their school bag. Only drive off when you can see your child walking away from the vehicle. Encourage your child to walk on the footpath closer to the school fence than near the road. Never double park to let children exit a car on the road or on the crossing. Observe the rules of traffic flow do not wait in a line of cars around the corner of Hall Circuit; you must keep driving and only enter the kiss and drop zone if there is a space available. Never do a u-turn to get into a car space always wait your turn from the back of the line. We have had a regular presence in 2020 of Liverpool City Council Rangers and NSW Police. This is because of the high number of complaints and incidents at our school. Both Council and Police issue tickets and fines this is not something the school can pay for or excuse you from. Any fines and demerit points you may receive are because you have broken the law. Staff at Middleton Grange Public School go above and beyond the expected level of supervision by being on duty outside of the school gates. Staff are not responsible for long lines of traffic or unsafe choices made by adult drivers please stop the aggression and abuse towards staff immediately. The safest way to drop off and pick up your child is to park and walk. For many years I have been sharing this message. We have always been worried that a tragedy could occur because of unsafe travel and pedestrian behaviours. Yesterday was a near miss but next time it could be your child with a far more tragic outcome. Please be safe always and every moment. Kind regards, Hallie Baxter (Principal)
