12.01.2022 Yesterday I met with Mr Rowan Ramsay, our Federal MP for the Electorate of Grey. Accompanied by Barbara Hunt from Helloworld Port Augusta and Bill Heron from Whyalla Travel & Cruise we asked for Mr. Ramsay’s support for the AFTA Travel Agent Support Package of $125 million which has been submitted to the Federal Government pre the Federal Budget release. Mr. Ramsay was very understanding of the position that we have found ourselves in and stated that he has regularly referred... to the Travel sector as one of if not the hardest hit in the Pandemic. We raised the issue of the value of the Travel Agent and how we have assisted our clients in receiving refunds and credits where bookings were non-refundable. In addition, we now also hold many supplier credits on behalf of our clients and we all need Federal Government support to maintain the operation of our small businesses to allow us to assist our clients in redeeming their credits when travel resumes. Middletons Travel has to date refunded our clients over $730,000 from cancelled travel from the Pandemic and we are still awaiting many airfare refunds some of which are taking over 6 months to be processed by the airlines. We are so grateful that our valued clients have been understanding and patient while we chase and follow up on the progress of supplier refunds. We thanked Mr. Ramsay for the Government’s support so far but explained that when travel does resume there will be a period of 6 months after travel has been booked before we will receive earnings from suppliers due to the process that payments are made to us. Mr. Ramsay acknowledged that the Travel sector should receive financial support, with the support being 100%, unlike the Building & Construction sector which received $688 million on a 1 to 5 basis.
