17.01.2022 Patience Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the difficulty in providing an event for 500 people that adheres to social distancing requirements, provides a safe environment for the trekkers and volunteers, and protects the Island community, The Great Island Trek has been postponed until Saturday 27th March 2021. This is a difficult decision but I feel it is in the best interests of everyone... Stay healthy Keep trekking See you in 2021 Daina

11.01.2022 Hey Adventurers!! There is a Planned Burn on Maggie today and tomorrow which will affect the tracks heading from Horseshoe to Balding and Radical Bays The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will conduct a planned burn from White Lady Bay to the Horseshoe Bay- Radical Bay Track and the Balding Bay Track, this burn will be undertaken in stages.... The first stage will be at White Lady Bay and from Balding Bay along the track and along the Horseshoe Bay-Radical Bay track on the 2nd and 3rd of June 2020, weather permitting, as part of the annual hazard reduction/conservation management program for parks and forests. As a result, smoke may be seen from Horseshoe Bay, Balding Bay and Radical Bay. The Horseshoe Bay-Radical Bay walking track and the Balding Bay walking track will be closed 2 June - 3 June for public safety. People in the area with medical conditions affected by smoke are encouraged to take appropriate precautions. The aim of this burn is to reduce fuel loads and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas in open woodland communities. This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration. For more information, please call the North Tropical Coast Marine Park office of QPWS on 4722 5343 or 4778 5378. For further media enquiries contact Media Services on (07) 3339 5831 or email [email protected]
