25.01.2022 At our October meeting, we heard from representatives of the Blue Mountains Refugee Support Group about whats needed to create more humane policies for refugees and asylum seekers. Our branch moved a range of motions in support of changing the way Australia treats asylum seekers and refugees. Lets hope we can close all off-shore detention centres, negotiate with transit countries to stop people smuggling and simplify and accelerate processing of refugee and visa claims for those people who are living here in Australia and currently have minimal support. Our thanks to our guest speakers for coming to our meeting last night.
25.01.2022 Great turn-out from our branch and from community members and families for this years Clean Up Australia Day at Wentworth Falls Village!

21.01.2022 Tonight the Mid Mountains branch supported the Labor Environment Action Networks motion calling for stronger federal environmental laws to protect our unique natural heritage and environment for future generations.
19.01.2022 Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, our Mid Mountains Branch meetings have been suspended along with many other party activities. However, we decided to hold an informal catch up via zoom! It was great to see everyone (not quite the same as in person) to hear from Susan Templeman MP, Trish Doyle MP and Councillor Romola Hollywood on the work that is continuing to happen at a Federal, State and Local Government level.
19.01.2022 At our last meeting, we resolved to support Labor for Choices proposal to remove the 1984 provision for a conscience vote on support for abortion from Labors Policy Platform and, instead, have a clear Labor Party position in sport of womens right to choose. Thanks to Labor for Choice for the great image!
17.01.2022 This month our branch went to see Time to Draw the Line, a new doco on the dispute over the maritime boundaries between Australia and Timor-Leste. Fairness for East Timor in the negotiations is the right thing to do and honours the WW2 diggers commitment - never to forget Timor.

10.01.2022 As many of you will be aware, today the Ministers appeal of our Councils injunction, in relation to her second suspension notice, was heard in the Court of Ap...peal. The decision has been reserved. Details are in the Councils media release below. Media Statement 28 May 2018 COURT RESERVES JUDGEMENT ON APPEAL PROCEEDINGS Today, the NSW Court of Appeal reserved judgement on the appeal proceedings initiated by the Minister for Local Government, challenging the injunction granted to the Council, to restrain the Minister from suspending the Council. Both the notice of suspension by the Minister and the hearing of the Councils case in the Land and Environment Court have been on hold pending the outcome of the appeal. It is not clear when the Court of Appeal will announce its decision however, the Court will endeavour to deal with the matter promptly. Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill, said, I remain firmly of the view that there is no basis upon which the elected Council should be suspended. The independent investigation into asbestos management, initiated by the Council, cleared the elected council of any wrong doing. Also, the Council has completed, or substantially progressed all requirements of the Performance Improvement Order, imposed on the Council by the Minister on 22 December 2017, while we have all been awaiting the outcome of the appeal. In addition, we have adopted all of the recommendations of the independent investigator relating to asbestos and safety management. Council is getting on with the job of supporting the General Manager as she works towards changing the management and safety culture of BMCC.

08.01.2022 Change the government, Vote Labor!
08.01.2022 Tonights branch meeting policy discussion focussed on the great work of LEAN Australia - Labor Environment Action Network. We learnt our branch was the first to sign up to LEANs 50/50 campaign three years ago. This campaign - that 50% of our energy needs come from renewables by 2030 and to reduce carbon emissions by 50% on Y2K numbers by 2030 - is now party policy. Its great to know our branch supported this policy goal from the get-go! If you support Labor, join our party and join our great branch!
07.01.2022 We encourage all to this special event, as we welcome former Labor Prime Minister the Hon. Julia Gillard next Thursday to the beautiful Blue Mountains. https://www.facebook.com/events/1376585735729098/?ti=cl

03.01.2022 Last night, we said farewell to one of our long-standing branch members Roderick Shaw (pictured front row left) who is moving to Victoria to be closer to family. Roderick has been a branch officer bearer, active delegate to our Federal Electorate Council and other Party units, and Booth Captain at Lawson through many Federal, State and Local Government elections. Roderick has also been a regular volunteer at our Labor stall at the Magpie Markets in Lawson. Thank you Rod for all of your contributions to our branch, to the Labor Party in the Blue Mountains and your deep commitment to Labor values of social justice and equality for all. We will miss you!
01.01.2022 The Labor team has fixed the Liberals brand new ad, so its now on message! Share it round!
01.01.2022 A message from Councillor Romola Hollywood: Breaking news: Remember all the stories on asbestos? Over the last two years, the Ombudsman has been conducting a full investigation into the activities of SafeWork. Yesterday the Ombudsman released his damning report into the way that SafeWork had been subject to political interference when conducting its investigations into asbestos management at Blue Mountains City Council. This report confirms what many people in our community ...told me: that the SafeWork requirements for testing and retesting of some Council sites were politically motivated. The Ombudsman has said that SafeWorks notices were unlawful and unreasonable. The Ombudsman has confirmed, what many of you told me you suspected, that our Council was no different to any other Council and SafeWorks actions were due to political pressure from the State Government and the attacks on our Council by radio shock jocks. The Ombudsman says SafeWork should apologise to our council and pay money for the expenses we incurred in meeting their unreasonable demands. This is an extraordinary finding. People who called for our Council to be sacked should be considering their positions. In sharing this news, I pay tribute to the leadership of Mayor Mark Greenhill who charted a course to respond to the allegations made by radio shock jocks and a state government which wanted to see our Council suspended. I pay tribute to all the community members who supported us to keep our local democracy in place. This Ombudsmans report would mean nothing if we werent still in office to receive it. The Mayor will be bringing forward a Mayoral Minute at our Council meeting on Tuesday night. I encourage everyone to join the live stream to hear the Mayor and Councillors speak on this issue. Again, I say thank you for your ongoing support. And please read on ...
