19.01.2022 It was great to see the new crop of trainees at the club to kick off the 2020 training season. Unfortunately the weather was pretty appalling so we had in inside introduction about sailing and safety followed by some demo’s about the boats. The training was finished with an excursion around Pittwater bay in the rescue boats in the pouring rain. After the training, one of the members spotted two rare pink seals in the shed In the afternoon a fleet of exclusively NS14 and B14...s raced in Pennants 1 & 2 back to back. The rain and cold temperatures did not deter our brave sailors who were keen to get the Pennant season underway. At the start of race 1 the breeze was a SSW moving into the south around 10 knots gusting only to about 12 knots. The fleet of 3 Bs and 3 NS's got away cleanly at 1:14 with little seperating the boats and not until well up the leg did Phantom and Early Warning get a bit of space over the NS's with Serenity next then Pumpkin Eater and Viva la Vida in close combat and Bang Bang pulling out with a snapped rope which was hand stitched back together and ready again for race 2. As the race proceeded Phantom held a strong lead going into the final two down wing legs but with a slight wind shift and new inexperienced crew came unstuck just before the wing mark gifting the lead to Early Warning and Serenity well clear of Pumpkin Eater and Viva la Vida. Phantom eventually got the boat upright and tagged along astern of the last NS to finish last. Early Warning Ross Daley and Tony VanGalen took the gun well clear of Serenity with a substantial gap to Pumpkin Eater ahead of Viva la Vida. Serenity The results on yardstick: Scott Wilkie and Lucas Foerder 1st from Early Warning Ross Daley and Tony VanGalen and Pumpkin Eater Melinda Lord and Georgia Ottway in third. The results on handicap: Pumpkin Eater first from Serenity second and Early Warning third. Pennant Race two Bang Bang fixed their problem and rejoined the fleet but Phantom headed for a warm shower after spending an extended time in the very cool water. The race I did not see so can only post the results however it was a good close race in the NS14s with Serenity just pipping Viva la Vida by less than a second and Early Warning leading from start to finish and Bang Bang well back for the entire race. The results on yardstick: Early Warning first Serenity second and Viva la Vida third. The results on handicap: Bang Bang first Pumpkin Eater second and Early Warning third. Next week it is Training Week 2 and the Anchor Wetsuits mini series, hopefully sailed in a bit warmer and dryer conditions. We don’t have great photo’s this week, the photographers were not keen to go outside in the cold rainy conditions. See more
19.01.2022 On Sunday 27 September, a cool breeze greeted our sailors and spectators as season 2020-21 kicked off. We traditionally started the opening day with a beautiful lunch followed by the annual Scott Miller Memorial Race. As the race got away at 14:00 a solid SW breeze of 12-14 knots and the odd gust to 20 knots made for interesting racing, including a crash between two boats, a broken mast and a napped banking strap. The fleet consisted of five NS14s four Sabres and two B14s wi...th two of the Sabres out of the race by the end. It was an even start with Pumpkin Eater a bit keen jumping the start by a good 2-3 boat lengths and not going back for a while giving the rest of the fleet a head start. Early Warning was soon well clear and Phantom with brand new inexperienced crew in amongst the NS14s with Serenity staying clear of the others for the entire race. Finn and Ben in Hedgehog stayed with the fleet and Pumpkin Eater fought back from the start slip up and was hot on the heals of the other NS's. Wasabi had a good lead over Loose Change with LMG after dredging the bottom with the mast and Wettas both retiring. Early Warning had a clear win from Phantom who chose not to try the kite first time out with Serenity holding off Viva la Vida and Sundaze next then Pumpkin Eater who had done well to close the gap and Hedgehog a little further astern. Wasdabi had a good three and a half minute lead over Loose Change. The results on handicap was: Pumpkin Eater Melinda Lord and Georgia Ottway from Early Warning Ross Daley and Tony Van Galen and Serenity Scott Wilkie and Lucas Foerder in third. A great race to start the season. We finished the day with our annual trophy presentations, a few months later as usual due to obvious reasons. Also certificated were handed out to last year’s trainees for successfully completing level 1 and level 3. Next Sunday, 4 October, we welcome our trainees for the start of the training program from 9:00. At 1pm we will start Pennants one and two races. See more
18.01.2022 Things were a little quiet on the water Sunday afternoon.
15.01.2022 Just a reminder to all our sailors, don't forget to change your clocks tonight, its the start of Daylight Savings. The first training starts at 9am and we have 2 races starting at 1 pm
14.01.2022 Adrianne Daley and Stephen Mitchell sailing a B14 in light winds
14.01.2022 With some rain and a good breeze the trainees all had a go on the Helm with the (assistent) instructors crewing. We had some capsizing and near crashes but all smiles at the end of the training. After much indecision to sail in the afternoon, just three Sabres and a B14 headed to the start with a 14- 16 knot SW breeze. With everyone treating it as a practice session there was Phantom sailing without the Kite to get the feel of the fresher breeze, About Time waiting for the ...others to catch up a couple of times. Eventually it was Phantom just nine minutes clear of About Time with Wasabi and then Loose Change who tested the water on the down wind sausage. In the end the Airport weather station had the top gust at about 27 knots and base breeze always below 20 knots so very sailable. Results: 1st About Time, 2nd Loose Change and 3rd Wasabi. Next weekend the Pittwater Regatta in on. Therefore no training on Sunday but spectators and helpers are more then welcome. Anyone who would like to to volunteer time on either Saturday of Sunday please send a PM.

12.01.2022 Perfect conditions on Sunday morning with a nice gentle southerly allowing trainees plenty of time on the water in the Pacers practicing tacking. After lunch the fleet of four Sabres four NS14s and two B14s headed out in a nice steady SSE breeze of around ten knots which initially died to around seven knots then steadily increased to 12 to 14 knots with gusts around 15 knots. The race got away at 13:18 to a clean start with light weather specialist Serenity leading all comers...Continue reading
11.01.2022 There was a near full list of trainees in the morning where they got to practise capsizing recovering. A big thank you to Jayden and Lucas for steering and capsizing the pacers over and over again. After lunch a reduced fleet, with boats away at the Showdown Series, had a pleasant sail on a relatively warm and sunny afternoon. The race got away at 13:15 in a 7-8 knot SSE breeze with gusts to 13 knots and a tendency to swing to the East and then back again with three Sabres a...nd NS14s and two B14s. We had the NS14 Bumps for the first time in many years back in to fleet. Skippering by Axel, his first race and crewed by lucas. Alistair had his first race as skipper on Viva la Vide. It was a clean start except for Norwegian Blue who tried to start on port and had to duck the fleet. By the top mark it was Phantom ahead of Early Warning with Viva la Vida mostly skippered by Alastair Lord next and Wasabi clearing out from the other Sabres. On the first down wind Phantom discovered the spinnaker had been rigged wrongly and so slipped back behind Early Warning by the wing mark but a drop and quick fix saw the boats quite close at the bottom mark. Viva la Vide held sway over Norwegian Blue and Wasabi was doing so well she was not far astern with a big lead over Loose Change and Bumps and Wind Wizard close at the back. Up the next windward Phantom passed Early Warning to be first at the top mark however heading for the wing mark on the sausage gifted Early Warning the lead again, The rest of the fleet held their positions as the wind continued to sneak into the east and back again at regular intervals. At the top mark the final time Early Warning held a slender lead over Phantom who sailed through on the way to the wing, did a drop at the wing and held on to round the bottom in the lead with an easy single leg to the finish as the breeze was in full east mode by then, At the line it was Phantom from Early Warning with Viva la Vida about 8 minutes astern and two and a bit minutes ahead of Norwegian Blue and impressively Wasabi next less than a minute astern and almost five minutes ahead of Loose Change with Bumps home not far ahead of Wind Wizard at the rear. The results on Handicap are: 1st Wasabi, 2nd Phantom and 3rd Viva la Vida. It was great to see our new sailors not only sailing but finishing the race. Next week is Training from 9:00 and Pennants 5 and 6 from 13:00. See more
11.01.2022 Our instructor Ross has shared this training video, on how to gybe, with us. He would like people to let him know in the comments what they think of it. This skill was practised on Sunday during training. Thanks Ross for sharing.

08.01.2022 Come and try Sailing at Midway Point Yacht club
08.01.2022 Another beautiful Sunday morning with perfect training conditions. This week we had the 3 pacers out and the trainees had a long time on the water practicing sailing down wind. This weekend was the Inter club Regetta with Kingston beach sailing club. With only two MPYC boats going to Kingston on Saturday the event got away to a quiet start. From the two races at Kingston sailed in a light SW breeze and the now commonplace 180 degree wind shift and the MPYC boats did well. In...Continue reading

21.12.2021 Well, that was an interesting weekend, keeping with typical Tassie weather we had it all! Saturday saw strong winds hammer the fleet, while some boats were loving it, a few boats find themselves in a spot of mischief and having a leisurely swim. A huge thank you to the rescue boat crews who did an amazing job keeping everyone safe. Sunday started with barely a whiff of breeze, sailors battled it out in a drifting contest, those lucky enough to find some breeze were off like a... shot leaving the rest to eat their bubbles. Sunday afternoon saw the sea breeze kick in, making many sailors very happy. Unfortunately, the breeze came with a few hiccups, with some confusion with the start and a couple more swimming lessons. Overall, it was a challenging weekend, but who doesn’t like a challenge. A massive thank you to all our volunteers, these regattas couldn’t happen without you! To all the sailors that made effort to travel, thank you! See more

22.11.2021 Apologies for the delay folks, the amazing weather in Tassie has kept this many of us outside soaking up some much-needed vitamin D and away from the computer. However, here are some pics from the Sunday 28th Nov. Sunday saw the trainees hit the water with light breezes and plenty of sunshine. The level 1’s got their first taste of capsizing practice, and what a day for it! Couldn’t ask for a better to go swimming! The level 2 & 3’s made the most of the light morning breeze ...to practice some roll tacking and gybing, happy to report no one fell out, and they were sailing some very smooth lines through the turns by the end! The afternoon saw a stunning breeze push through for the latest round of the pennant series, with no room for lazy sailing everyone got to work and were hiking hard (at least at times). There were constant scrambles for positions, and close racing to be had by all. Well, done to all, hopefully you find a photo of yourself doing awesome, and for those who couldn’t be there, hopefully you are envious! See more
10.11.2021 A huge thank you to all who donated to our Christmas Raffle... what amazing prizes! If you want a chance to win be sure to buy some tickets! You must be in it to win it, location doesn't matter we will organise to get these fabulous prizes to you! Tickets available at MPYC!
