24.01.2022 It's PANDA Week 2020 and it's extra important this year to acknowledge those who may be having a hard time. This year's message is "Tell Someone Who Cares" and we care! Are you a MAMA client? You get the mobile numbers of the whole midwifery team and we want you to use them. Not a MAMA client? We welcome emails/calls/DMs, or you can book a consult with our psychologist or Allied Health team.... If not us, who in your life can you trust? A partner, a family member, a friend? Telling someone what's going on can make all the difference. You are not alone! Share this post to get the word out! #PANDAWeek2020 #TellSomeoneWhoCares @PANDANational

06.01.2022 We're so excited to welcome student midwife Tilley on Monday! She's in for a treat with MAMA's extended family of expectant and new mums! "Hi, I'm Tilley. I'm in final year of my midwifery degree, and this is my final placement before I graduate! I'm from a small country town north of Melbourne, and I've been lucky to complete a few midwifery group practice placements in rural towns, as well as plenty of hospital of placements, but nothing as special as MAMA so far. My great...est passion in my degree and clinical experience so far have been woman and family centred care, and the positive impacts continuity can have, so I can't wait to learn and witness this over the next few weeks. I feel so incredibly lucky to be able to spend time with the MAMA midwives, other staff and the beautiful families that make up this community. I can't wait to see what I can learn over the next few weeks, and how I can take this into my future practice. I am so excited and I can't wait to meet you you all, midwives and families. Thank you for accepting me into your community, I can't wait!"

06.01.2022 What an honour it was to be part of Chiara's birth and to be able to share this beautiful reflection on labour from @bloom_mumma_healing There through every wave support through your birth is so important. So grateful for my husband who supports me through everything and so blessed that we could share this birth with our furbaby Bee birth is the strongest will a mother will have, each wave is sending her baby earthside closer and closer to her. We wish to resist the wav...es but when we find that the wave is us and not stronger then us we can work with it not against. Mindset through birth is everything. Each wave brings my baby closer to me was a magical affirmation that my beautiful midwives @mama_melbourne would guide me through as I transitioned from one wave to the other. I kept releasing the limiting beliefs but most importantly I felt into my body. I cried when I needed to, I got scared when I needed to, I got quiet when I needed to, I made very strong loud noises allot of the time (the most powerful way to get through those strong heavy waves) because I knew that all energy needed to be felt and heard seen with love and released. The most magical experience and truly a gift that I got to have. So blessed Chiara #bloommummawellness #bloommummayoga #bloommummahealing #bloommummalove #naturalbirthmagic #homebirth #mamamidwives #holisticwellness #holisticbirth #love #connection #power #mumma #waves #mummainherpower #repost4ig

05.01.2022 Mixed Feeding - Repost @thebreasthelp Breastfeeding definitely doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Sometimes mixed feeding is the way to go in order to achieve your goals and have the best outcomes for mother and baby/babies. Mixed feeding is the combination of breastfeeding and giving expressed milk/formula via a bottle or supplemental nursing system. It looks different for each family.... I have supported quite a few families over the last few weeks for whom the combination of breastfeeding and adding formula/donor milk worked best. Sometimes temporary and sometimes ongoing. Some families were completely happy with this from the start, others found it initially disappointing. We explored different options and have used different strategies, it’s all about finding out what works best for you. If you have any questions or want to make a plan, feel free to contact me @thebreasthelp Some more general information: Regular mixed feeding might make it more difficult to keep breastfeeding because it can interfere with keeping up a good supply of breastmilk. If you’re thinking about supplementing with formula, it can be good to book in with a LC or other professional. You might talk about: -How to boost your milk supply -How much formula to give your baby -How many times a day to give formula -How long to continue giving formula. When your baby has a feed from a bottle of formula and not from your breast, you might notice: -Your baby preferring the bottle to the breast and then refusing the breast -A change in the colour, smell and consistency of your baby’s poos -Your breasts getting overfull (which can be painful and reduce your supply). If you experience any of this again, get in touch with your LC and discuss/make a plan moving forward. If you’re ready to increase breastfeeding again and reduce the amount of formula feeding your baby has, it’s usually helpful to make a plan with a LC too. How quickly you cut back on mixed feeding depends on why you’re supplementing with formula, how old your baby is and how much formula your baby is having. The word GRADUALLY is usually key, gradually decrease the top-up, evaluate and decide what to do next. ^Resource Raising Children website

04.01.2022 I held you long before my arms did, in my dreams and thoughts. I whispered to you the lullabies that would later send you off to sleep. I knew you long before I met you, I would talk of your personality made up of elbows and knees, ready to keep me on my toes, I would say. I loved you long before I saw you, tracing black and white prints of your lips, knowing soon enough I’d be kissing them with my own.... I heard you long before your cry into the world. That first heart beat, the one that echoed love and relief, a quick rhythm that made time slow down. I wanted you long before I needed you, as I sat there willing tests to show me the lines that would change my life. I felt you long before I touched you, the stretches of my belly proudly growing you. The pain that sometimes comes with being made of each other, the worry, that I couldn’t be without you now. I shared with you my heart before you’d steal it completely. I’ve shared stories, ones of how I met your father, books already sitting on your shelf. I’ve shared unspoken emotions with you that I know you can feel. I’ve shared my body, I am your land and you are my guide. When it’s dark at night I wonder, will it be tonight? I’m nervous There’s so much I don’t know. But I know I love you. I’m ready when you are. See you soon, love, Mum. Beautiful words to share from @jessurlichs_writer from her book 'All I See is You' pic @lanasvechnikova

04.01.2022 This beautiful dog made quite an impression at MAMA Hampton today! A little bit tricky to measure fundal height and listen to bub's heartbeat though

03.01.2022 RePosted from @drcarlachiro One of my favourite pregnancy activities I am always recommending to women: ‘All-fours’. This is a really comfortable position to adapt through pregnancy to relieve any pubic pain or pelvic/low back pain. This can also be an amazing active birthing position too! How? Rest in this posture with your upper body on the swiss-ball, knees hip width apart and belly hanging nice a loose. ... How long? Minimum of 10 minutes a couple of times a day! If you don’t have a swiss-ball you can crawl around on the floor or rest the upper body on the couch or armchair. #chiropractic #drcarlachiro #MAMA #Midwivesandmothers #newborn #infant #toddler #kids #pregnancy #prenatal #antenatal #postnatal #postpartum #familyhealth #activebirth #melbournemums #melbournemumsandbubs #melbournepregnancy #mamamembers

02.01.2022 What are your go-to recommendations for pregnancy resources (books, podcasts, documentaries, etc)? We've compiled a list of favourites from Team MAMA for the Resource Library in MAMA Members! The full list is available just for our members. One hint, though, there are two Australian authors who were very heavily recommended. Can you guess who they are? Thinking about becoming a member? 02.01.2022 Welcome Ruby! We are so honoured to have been a part of such a beautiful birth! "Ruby Rose Woodhouse - born 4:49pm, 11th July 2020 in a natural home birth. Deciding to have Jan and MAMA Midwives as our care and support team throughout pregnancy and birth was the best decision we made. Navigating pregnancy for a first time mum can be overwhelming at the best of times, so much information, and so many opinions.... The situation that arose with covid during my 2nd trimester added another level of uncertainty and stress. We were planning to birth at Cabrini, and had chosen a shared care system with MAMA, and a private Obstetrician. When hospitals announced in April that the number of support people allowed during labour was being reduced to 1 person, I was left feeling apprehensive, and felt as though I was no longer in control of my birth plan. We decided at this point to commit to a home birth and we couldn’t be happier with our decision. The continuity of care that we received from Jan and Rachel throughout the pregnancy was second to none. Jan was available at any time, day or night and regardless of how big or small the problem, she always managed to comfort us and ease our worries. We felt so safe during labour with Rachel and Sarah’s presence, and feel so fortunate of their exceptional knowledge, support and guidance, in bringing our beautiful daughter Ruby into the world. Circumstances pushed us to have a home birth, and in hindsight we wouldn’t have wanted it any other way, we would highly recommend both MAMA and home birthing."
