22.01.2022 "Upper Bastion Cascades" Mieke Boynton The thing I most enjoyed about the walk to the Bastion Cascades was that this was the view I was presented with after carefully watching my feet as I climbed up the last little bit of the track... and then looked up. I gasped and said "WOW" out loud!! Although you can hear the falls from quite a distance away, and although you see some of the falls off to either side, you don't see the main falls until this moment. It was genuinely bre...ath-taking. What a beautiful waterfall!! Nikon D810 / Nikkor 24-70mm ISO 100 f/16 10sec 55mm Circular polariser + 6-stop ND filter

13.01.2022 Last month, I was contacted by N-Photo magazine who wanted the back-story of "Falling Softly" because they were publishing the Top 101 landscapes that had been captured with Nikon cameras from the The International Landscape Photographer of the Year competition. I think I may have already shared the story with you, but in case I haven't, here it is: On a foggy morning in the Buckland Valley in May last year, Matt and I were photographing this beautiful chestnut orchard throug...h a fence when a ute pulled up beside us. It was during lock-down, and although I had sought and received confirmation that taking photos was "essential work", I was still on heightened alert. Thinking I was about to get told off, I approached the driver of the ute with trepidation. There was no need for concern - it was Ann, the owner of the orchard, and she only wanted to invite us to go inside to take our photographs! Matt, Banjo and I spent a blissful hour amongst the silent trees and thick fog, with only the sound of falling chestnuts breaking the quiet serenity. As a foot-note to this story, I'm pleased to share that I got in touch with Ann recently and she's looking forward to receiving a print of this image as a "thank you" when I return home It's really nice to read all the stories behind the photos, so if you'd like to purchase Issue 119 of N-Photo magazine you can order it online here: https://www.magazinesdirect.com//nphoto-magazine-single-is? The gorgeous hard-cover book of all the Top 101 photos produced by Momento Pro can be purchased here: https://www.momentoshop.com.au/sp/id/20730 (And here's the book preview if you'd just like to look through all the incredible landscape photos: https://www.internationallandscapephotographer.com/)

11.01.2022 "Larapuna" Mieke Boynton Matt and I visited Larapuna (Eddystone Point) a few weeks ago, but we arrived quite late in the afternoon and were scrambling a bit to find compositions while the best light was happening. We decided to return last Thursday and stay nearby overnight so we could also be there for sunrise the following morning. We weren't lucky enough to get any incredible light or beautiful sky-colours, but we certainly enjoyed our time there anyway! The granite boul...ders seem to be tumbling into the sea and they are coloured by this amazing orange lichen. For me, probably the highlight of the trip was driving slowly after dark to our accommodation and seeing 5 spotted quolls and a tasmanian devil!! (Plus too many wombats, pademelons, wallabies and brush-tail possums to count!) It's so nice to visit an area where the wildlife is so abundant. And it's so nice that Matt insists on driving really slowly to avoid harming any creatures :) :) :) Nikon D810 / Zeiss 21mm ISO 100 f/16 20sec 21mm Circular polariser + 6-stop ND filter

01.01.2022 "Lower Cascade" Mieke Boynton A more intimate view of the Bastion Cascades from a couple of weeks ago. Sometimes it's nice to see the whole waterfall... but sometimes it's nice to zone in on little parts of it! Nikon D810 / Nikkor 24-70mm... ISO 100 f/11 8sec 42mm Circular polariser + 6-stop ND filter See more
