19.01.2022 Happy New Year to all my clients and friends. May 2012 be happy, healthy and prosperous for us all.

19.01.2022 Important announcement in the last few days regarding the long-awaited new Temporary Parent visa. Applications will commence on 17 April and there will be only 15,000 visas approved per year. It will cost $10,000 for a 5-year visa and $5,000 for a 3-year visa. Parents can stay the full visa duration (five years or three years). After that time they will need to be out the country for 90 days and can then apply for another one, but no more after that. Most importantly, the...re is no balance of family requirement, which means that parents do not need to have the majority of their children in Australia. This could be a real help to many families struggling to reunite. See more

16.01.2022 The winds of change are in the air. A new Minister of Immigration whose brother is a union boss, an election year, a government desperate to secure votes - doesn't bode well for the temporary 457 overseas skilled worker program. If you are looking for this visa, get your applications in asap.

16.01.2022 From 26 March students on Student visas are allowed to work a maximum of 40 hours in any fortnight while their course is in session. They can still work unlimited hours in scheduled vacation periods. The change is designed to give students more flexibility. International students out there make sure not to work more than 40 hours in any given fortnight during semester or you will be in breach of your visa.

14.01.2022 A significant change to Partner visa processing with effect from today. Priority will be given to low risk countries where applicants have lodged fully complete applications which can be finalised immediately. This could mean waiting a significantly shorter time from the current waiting time of 16 - 23 months for a Partner visa application. Make sure your applications are front-loaded (fully complete), or let us do the work for you and lodge applications that could be approved much quicker (if you have a passport from a low-risk country). This is good news!

13.01.2022 A dramatic announcement today from Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull that the 457 visa program is to be abolished. It will apparently be replaced with a new temporary skilled visa. Some changes such as those to the list of eligible occupations are to happen fairly soon and others by March 2018. Details are still sketchy but we will update as more details become available.

12.01.2022 Additions to the Skilled Occupation List from 1 July 2014 - chefs, bricklayers and wall and floor tilers. No existing occupations are to be removed. Accountants, you can breathe a sigh of relief!

11.01.2022 A significant day today as we say goodbye to the 457 visa and say hello to the new TSS visa (Subclass 482). Lots to get our head around as we get used to the details of the replacement to the 457 visa. Some of the old elements remain and some are completely new. The migration landscape certainly is changing!

07.01.2022 Student visas are radically overhauled from today. There is effectively only one Student visa now, regardless of the level of study. There are also much easier documentary requirements, depending on the applicant's passport and the chosen institution. Also all Student visas can now be applied for online regardless of where the student is when applying.

07.01.2022 Some of the biggest changes to the Australian visa system in decades began on 1 July. Watch this space for updates!

05.01.2022 Beware of callers claiming to be from the Customs Department and asking for additional visa payments due to payment discrepancies. These calls have been identified as scams.

04.01.2022 There's a lot of hype in the media and elsewhere about the new Northern Territory DAMA. There are only 500 places available and, while it is possible, there are quite a few hurdles to jump over before one could get it. It's not such an easy route to permanent residency as it is being touted to be by some.

01.01.2022 Parents are set to score later on in the year with longer Tourist visa likely. Visas could be granted for up to 12 months stay at a time with a 3 year validity. Great for those of us wanting to bring our Parents over for a much longer stay.
