20.01.2022 Are visas granted during Covid-19? The writer is the member of Migration Institute of Australia which posted the following useful information: MIA COVID-19 Surveys - Interim results and trends... The MIA thanks those members who have supplied data on visa processing and requests for permission to enter Australia outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of collecting this data is to obtain a clearer understanding of the characteristics of application grants or refusals and permission to enter Australia requests for the information of MIA members. Results to dates - Processing and grants The number of responses received to these surveys are relatively low and insufficient to strongly confirm trends in processing as yet. Anecdotally, the responses do confirm what the MIA is also identifying through professional support enquiries and requests: Processing has slowed considerably, with onshore applications being granted at a rate of five to one offshore grants There is some evidence that critical sector occupations are prioritised for onshore grants. If granted to an offshore applicant, permission to enter Australia is being refused, even for doctors Employer sponsored visas are particularly affected by slow processing. This is not unexpected given the political sensitivities around current and predicted unemployment for Australians. Members are reporting increased RFIs about the continued necessity for the role and whether it could now be filled by an Australian SC 482, 186 and 187 visas are reportedly the most granted subclasses at this time, albeit at a fraction of the usual rate. Accredited sponsors appear to be receiving the greater percentage of these grants. Most SC 186/187 visas being approved are for TRT applicants. The occupation with the largest number of grants is Registered Nurse. SC 801 Partner visas are at this time the second largest number of visa being granted Skilled Regional SC 491 and 489 - a few have been approved for onshore applicants There have been a small number of reported grants of SC 500 and 485 visas to onshore applicants There have been no reports of any protection visa grants There have been no reports of SC 408 AGEE COVID stream approvals.
