21.01.2022 Hi all, Council’s design engineer would like to move on the concept plan of our Bowraville Connected redevelopment proposal to the more detailed civil planning stage. We therefore need to nail down where everything is likely to sit/positioned in the precinct. Could you have a look and think about what is shown on the current plan and any alterations that may be required. Keep in mind the connectedness idea to ensure our multipurpose vision is accommodated with any changes. I ...will schedule for us to meet at the carpark at Hennessey/Tape Oval at 5pm Wednesday 4th April. I should also have news by then of where we stand moving forward on the project. 21.01.2022 Good news. The big tree, known locally as Old Blotchy survived the fires. Similar big trees in the area survived as well. This was an area of forest the Friends of Durras campaigned to be added to Murramarang National Park. After a lot of work, we were finally succesful in December 2004.

13.01.2022 North Coast Destination Management Plan 2018-2021 launched The Destination Management Plan for the North Coast of NSW was launched last Friday in Port Macquarie by the Tourism Minister Adam Marshall, local member Leslie Williams and Destination North Coast Chair Cameron Arnold. In launching the Plan, the Tourism Minister highlighted that he was looking forward to working together with Destination North Coast, businesses and councils to achieve the objectives. ... The Plan, which was based on extensive research and consultation has a strong focus on attracting signature nature-based experiences and building key sectors including caravan and camping, food and local produce and business events that will help address seasonality and dispersal. Your input and collaboration in shaping this Plan has been invaluable and we anticipate continuing a strong working partnership going forward to implement the identified key priorities and projects highlighted in the Plan. 08.01.2022 Media Release from Nambucca Shire the community might smell and taste a bit more chlorine in our tap water On Monday 16 December 2019 the potable water supply ...for the Nambucca Valley will switch from the borefield adjoining the Nambucca River at Bowraville to the water stored in Council’s 5,000 ML off river storage, the Bowra Dam. The drought conditions mean that the Council has to stop pumping from the river as it has fallen below the 95th percentile flow,....... In commenting on the change over to the dam water, Mayor Cr Rhonda Hoban OAM said, this will be the first time the council has introduced the dam water into its reservoir system and reticulation network. As the Bowra Dam is filled with the same borefield water that the community is used to drinking, the properties of the dam water are not dissimilar, said Cr Hoban. The differences between the borefield water and the dam water mainly relate to turbidity and dissolved carbon, with the dam having higher levels of both. ..................Council staff will need to increase chlorine dosage so as to retain a level of residual chlorine in the reservoirs that will satisfy public health standards for potable water, said Cr Hoban. So in summary the community might smell and taste a bit more chlorine in our tap water but in other respects it will be the same. In relation to drinking water the expert advice is that residents should allow the tap water to stand overnight in a container before consumption. This should eliminate most of the chlorine smell and taste, said Cr Hoban. At current usage levels the Council has approximately 2 years supply of stored water in the Bowra Dam so there is no immediate concern in relation to the quantity of water the Council has available for its residents and business. If the drought continues the dam can also support rural residents who are reliant on rainwater tanks. Cr Hoban said, in spite of the probability of our tap water having a stronger chlorine smell and taste, compared to many communities we are fortunate in having a relatively large water supply which will hopefully see us through the drought with only Level 1 Moderate Water Restrictions.
