23.01.2022 It is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the New Year - today, we encourage you find your balance.

23.01.2022 Prayer for our PC meeting tonight. Taken from crosswalk.com. Father, We praise You for this meeting, and Your purpose for it. We know that when we gather together, You always have a divine agenda. We love You for that, Father. That even when we have done what You have asked, the results are so much greater than we ever could have imagined. Even in failed attempts, You blow us away with Your faithfulness to provide what we need.... Our prayer today is that Your will be done through this Parish. Take what we have prepared and multiply our efforts as only You can. Steer our intentions to align with Your righteous will. Remind us of Your faithful provision when our efforts fail us or fall short. May all glory go up to You when we reach the finish line and climb over benchmarks. Blanket us with Your peace today. Keep us physically safe and guard our hearts and minds from pride and selfishness. Keep love at the forefront of our minds today, and the guiding light for all we set out to accomplish and celebrate. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

23.01.2022 The coronavirus pandemic comes as many Australians are still feeling the impact of recent bushfires, floods and drought. It’s very normal to not feel OK in challenging times such as these. Watching and listening to media and social media coverage and commentary can be confronting and confusing. However, at a time when we’re being asked to physically distance ourselves from one another, we can make use of freed up diary time and our digital devices to stay connected. It is now even more important that we all promote a sense of community, reach out and ask our friends, family and colleagues, Are you OK?.

19.01.2022 Feast of Lancelot Andrewes Almighty God, you gave your servant Lancelot Andrewes the gift of your Holy Spirit and made him a man of prayer and a faithful pastor... of your people: Perfect in us what is lacking in your gifts, of faith, to increase it; of hope, to establish it; of love, to kindle it; that we may live in the life of your grace and glory; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the same Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Lancelot Andrewes, born in 1555, was the favorite preacher of King James I. He was the author of a great number of eloquent sermons, particularly on the Nativity and the Resurrection. They are witty, grounded in the Scriptures, and characterized by the kind of massive learning that the King loved. This makes them difficult reading for modern people, but they repay careful study. T. S. Eliot used the opening of one of Andrewes’ Epiphany sermons as the inspiration for his poem, The Journey of the Magi: A cold coming we had of it, Just the worst time of the year For a Journey, and such a long journey: The way deep and the weather sharp, The very dead of winter. Andrewes was also a distinguished biblical scholar, proficient in Hebrew and Greek, and was one of the translators of the Authorized (King James) Version of the Bible. He was Dean of Westminster and headmaster of the school there before he became a bishop and was influential in the education of a number of noted churchmen of his time, in particular, the poet George Herbert. Andrewes was a very devout man, and one of his most admired works is his Preces Privatae (Private Devotions), an anthology from the Scriptures and the ancient liturgies, compiled for his own use. It illustrates his piety and throws light on the sources of his theology. He vigorously defended the catholicity of the Church of England against Roman Catholic critics. He was respected by many as the very model of a bishop at a time when bishops were held in low esteem. As his student, John Hacket, later Bishop of Lichfield, wrote about him: Indeed he was the most Apostolical and Primitive-like Divine, in my Opinion, that wore a Rochet in his Age; of a most venerable Gravity, and yet most sweet in all Commerce; the most Devout that I ever saw, when he appeared before God; of such a Growth in all kind of Learning that very able Clerks were of a low Stature to him. He died in 1626. https://episcopalchurch.org//lm_great_cloud_of_witnesses.p

18.01.2022 How's this for summing up the Australian spirit? Greg left his broken mower outside his house for rubbish collection, but a stranger returned it to him fully ...repaired instead. "Had a knock at the door this morning and opened it to find a man I'd never met before, standing next to a lawn mower I'd left on nature reserve to get picked up," Greg said. The man told Greg, "No need to throw it out, I've fixed it for you." How good is that?! Have you ever experienced a random act of kindness? Greg McElherron

17.01.2022 As the end of this year nears, many shared elements can be found between 2020 and Advent: weariness; pain; uncertainty about the future; systemic injustice; nee...dless deaths and suffering. Into this picture of exhaustion and fear comes Jesus. The Messiah who comes to us in the most unlikely, unexpected form. The God who did not forget his people or ignore their cries. Jesus did not deny our pain or magically fix it, instead, he entered into it wholly bringing healing and salvation. This year's Common Grace Advent series reflects on both parts of the Advent story: the lament and the hope we share. From 1 December 2020, you will receive 25 daily devotionals in your inbox from a diverse group of contributors including Dr Di Rayson, Janet McKinney, Rev Dr Kirk Patston, Phil Walker-Harding, Darlene Zschech, Peter Richardson, Aunty Ida Granites with Dr Steve Bevis, Miranda Bennett, Oscar Delaney, Gemma Bell, Rachel Turner, Qwayne Guevara, Peter Richardson, Sally-Ann Williams, Brooke Prentis and more.

07.01.2022 This week Father Richard Rohr offered a series of meditations on what it means to be a Wounded Healer. He writes, Until there has been a journey through suffer...ing, I don’t believe that we have true healing authority. In general, we can only lead people on the spiritual journey as far as we ourselves have gone. We simply can’t talk about it beyond that. That’s why the best thing we can do for people is to stay on the journey ourselves. We transform people to the degree we have been transformed. When we can somehow be compassion, not just talk about compassion; when we can be healed and not just talk about healing, then we are, as Henri Nouwen said so well, ‘wounded healers.’ Today’s contemplative practice invites readers to spend some time in prayer with the words of the great theologian and modern mystic Howard Thurman, who reminds us that one of the most important aspects of healing is the process of offering our wounding to God. Thurman prays, Our little lives, our big problemsthese we place upon Thy altar! Brood over our spirits, Our Father, Blow upon whatever dream Thou hast for us That there may glow once again upon our hearths The light from Thy altar. Pour out upon us whatever our spirits need of shock, of lift, of release That we may find strength for these days Courage and hope for tomorrow. Read more: https://bit.ly/2Rj4wuL
