24.01.2022 On my way to Brisbane and looking forward to our first post election MFAA Roadshow and QLD state awards tomorrow

24.01.2022 Herewith an MFAA media release issued a short time ago in response to the CHOICE article overnight and associated media.

24.01.2022 This will certainly assist in clearing any bottlenecks to I/O being offered for hardship. If the customer can cover the interest then it is important that they are provided that option to avoid an increase in the loan balance. Whilst deferral was the primary initial hardship relief mechanism, I/O will now increasingly be offered.

24.01.2022 Brokers have achieved a 27% year-on-year increase in new settlements and 57.5% market share in percentage terms for the March 2021 quarter. No small feat for a broker channel hampered by lender turnaround and discharge issues. Encouraging signs for the future.

24.01.2022 The Government has announced a number of additional measures to assist home ownership as part of the 2021-22 Budget. There is an extension of the New Home Guarantee with another 10,000 places, plus an increase in voluntary contributions under the First Home Super Saver Scheme from $30,000 to $50,000, and finally there is a new Family Home Guarantee targeted at assisting single parents. The Family Home Guarantee will allow single parents with just 2% deposit to get into the ma...rket with Government putting in an 18% guarantee for eligible borrowers. My understanding from discussions with Government is that the intent is that previous ownership will not preclude single parents from being eligible as long as they do not currently own property. I also understand that the scheme will again be administered by NHFIC and that brokers will be included in the distribution of 10,000 guarantees over four years with the potential for a top-up if there is strong demand. The MFAA will be strongly welcoming these measures and particularly the support of single parents and their children. See more

24.01.2022 On this day in 1918, at 11 am on 11 November, the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. #lestweforget as today, Remembrance Day, we remember those who have made noble sacrifices for the betterment of our families, friends and our futures. #remembranceday

23.01.2022 Hi all, An important MFAA update on the ABA's new Banking Code of Practice.

22.01.2022 The MFAA team and I have officially wrapped up the MFAA Excellence Awards season! Last night, we celebrated the VIC/TAS Excellence Awards. A big thank you to our sponsors and congratulations to the finalists and award winners. All truly deserving recipients and wonderful representatives of our great industry. Wishing the best of luck to all our State Awards winners from across the country who will go on to vie for honours at our National Excellence Awards next month. ... 22.01.2022 The MFAA pays our respects to all servicemen and women, past and present. This Remembrance Day, please take a moment with us to reflect on their tremendous sacrifice. Lest we forget.

21.01.2022 It is of great importance that now, more than ever, we are able to provide the resources to support the mental wellbeing of our colleagues, co-workers, family, customers and community. These uncertain times may cause many to feel distressed and with social distancing restrictions in place, it can feel difficult to find help. Understanding that mental health is a top priority, we have collaborated with Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury to transform their Accidental Counsellor pr...ogram into a tailored series of live MFAA digital, skills based events. We are all in this together and the MFAA will continue to support the industry and our members with accessible resources and a network of supporting professionals. If you are interested in finding out more about the MFAA’s Accidental Counsellor events visit our website: https://www.mfaa.com.au/events/AC-April20

21.01.2022 Wishing all our brokers a fantastic National Finance Brokers Day! Today provides an opportunity to reflect on the wonderful work you do to deliver solutions for your customers all year round. Looking forward to celebrating with our wonderful members in sunny Darwin at today’s MFAA PD event.

20.01.2022 Pleased to open the MFAA National Roadshow New Era. New Thinking which kicked-off in Sydney today. An excellent turn-out and strong line-up of guest speakers. Also wonderful to be able to speak with so many members on how they are coping in this complex and challenging environment we are in. It never ceases to amaze me how resourceful and resilient mortgage brokers are. Looking forward to speaking with more members around the country at our remaining National Roadshow events.

18.01.2022 I was delighted to receive a message of support for the mortgage broking industry a short time ago from Anna Bligh at the Australian Banking Association. The ABA and their member banks clearly acknowledge the important role brokers play in supporting competition in the home lending market and are also conscious that brokers are small businesses in their own right that will require support. The MFAA will continue to strongly collaborate with the ABA and other associations to ensure that our industry remains strong and that we can collectively maximise the support we are able to provide our customers when they need it most.

18.01.2022 We are pleased to advise that ASIC has today announced that it will defer the commencement date of the mortgage broker best interest duty and remuneration reforms and the design and distribution obligations for six months from their original commencement dates, given the significant impact of COVID-19 on the Australian economy, especially on the financial system and consumers. It follows the efforts of the MFAA in reaching out to ASIC, Treasury and Government to explain the difficulty brokers were having in becoming compliant with the BID by 1 July 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is an extremely welcome announcement by ASIC and demonstrates the Government’s support for the important role brokers play, especially at this crucial time when customers are most vulnerable. https://asic.gov.au//20-109mr-asic-defers-commencement-of/

18.01.2022 The 2020 MFAA Excellence Awards are about to begin! Well done to everyone that has made this virtual event possible and good luck to all the SA/NT finalists this afternoon (4pm Adelaide Time). #MFAAawards #awards #SA #NT

18.01.2022 After losing my left leg to cancer above the knee at the age of 25, I walked on crutches and one leg for 25 years until I met remarkable surgeon and wonderful h...uman being Dr Munjed Almuderis. A little more than 5 years ago Munjed performed his ground breaking osseointegration procedure on me to surgically insert an implant into my left femur to which a computer leg is now attached. The surgery changed my life. The crutches were gone and my hands were free. I could once again stand unaided, walk without crutches, carry things and could even walk holding my gorgeous wife’s hand which I hadn’t been able to do for 25 years. I will forever be indebted to this remarkable man. This week Munjed appeared on Andrew Denton’s interview and this is his inspirational story. See more

17.01.2022 This year's leading real estate event, AREC 2021, is taking place this month on the Gold Coast. I will be speaking as part of the mortgage broker program on Sunday 30 May at 12.05pm. 17.01.2022 Before the Women in Finance Awards kick-off tonight, I wanted to wish all finalists the best of luck. It’s been a privilege to support these industry leaders who have shown their resilience and class in what has been a challenging year - I’ll be following tonight’s results with keen interest. https://www.womeninfinanceawards.com.au//2019-winners-and-

16.01.2022 Last night we had the great pleasure of celebrating the MFAA 2019 National Excellence Awards in Melbourne. Congratulations to all our finalists and winners who have excelled over the past year - it is always wonderful to be able to recognise the amazing talent we have in our industry. I would also like to congratulate our newest Life Member, Kathy Cummings, who has dedicated many years of service to the industry and the MFAA. We're grateful for your immense contributions. #MFAAawards

16.01.2022 Best of luck to the finalists in today’s penultimate MFAA State Excellence Awards Vic/Tas event #MFAAawards #awards #VIC #TAS

16.01.2022 Fantastic to help launch the second annual MFAA Opportunities for Women event in Sydney today. The MFAA is absolutely committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in our finance industry, not only because it’s the socially responsible thing to do but also because it makes good business sense. Unfortunately, just 27% of brokers in our industry are female which is not representative of the demographic or customers we serve. MFAA research also shows the makeup of our customer...s is changing. As a customer-focused sector, it is our responsibility to adapt to this change, to better service our clients, and to ensure the sustainability of our wonderful industry. Thank you to subject matter expert Jane Counsel for your guidance and stewardship of the initiative, Wajiha Ahmed for your inspirational and eye-opening special presentation, and to all our sponsors, MFAA Community Panel members and those who attended the event today. With your support, commitment and hard work, I am confident we can make a difference.

15.01.2022 I have just completed delivering my Turning the Tide address at the MFAA Adelaide Roadshow. Its shaping up to be another great day and following the strong member feedback from Sydney last week I am hoping that our Adelaide members will also enjoy the wonderful program the team have put together for this year’s event.

15.01.2022 To all mothers who so unselfishly nurture, guide, support, and inspire their children - wishing you a very Happy Mother's Day. #HappyMotherDay #thankyou

15.01.2022 Best of luck to all the #NSW/ #ACT #MFAAawards finalists ahead of this afternoon’s event.

14.01.2022 Still early days, but very pleasing to see a number of supportive lender announcements filtering through today on their COVID-19 customer assistance measures and to have individual confirmation from these lenders that broker trail will not to be impacted by payment holidays or other COVID-19 customer relief measures. I believe the intent is also that the customer’s credit file will importantly not be negatively impacted. Whilst there are still many lenders that are yet to an...nounce their positions, these developments and the numerous conversations we have been having with lenders remain very reassuring. #brokers #covid19 #mfaa

14.01.2022 Yesterday, the MFAA called for a more considered implementation of the Banking Code of Practice, in particular, the elements relating to the identification of vulnerable customers. See below our full release which includes our guidance to brokers on how they should manage this issue in the interim whilst we continue to urgently work with the appropriate stakeholders on finding an acceptable long-term solution to this matter. 13.01.2022 It is fantastic to be in Launceston today to update our members on the RC outcome, the campaign (https://brokerbehindyou.com.au) and the progress we are making. But importantly to answer questions and get feedback from our members at this critical time for our industry.

13.01.2022 Herewith the latest update on the progress made over the past week around the new Banking Code of Practice which came into effect on Monday 1st July. https://youtu.be/xS6qpuSxIb8

13.01.2022 Did you know that 1 in 2 Aussies are diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85? This is a very startling statistic! Today, the MFAA team took part in the Cancer Council Australia' Biggest Morning Tea. As a small contribution, the team baked and shared our favourite sweet and savoury treats raising funds for life-saving research to make a difference to those impacted by cancer. ... A worthwhile cause and one we are proud to support #biggestmorningtea

12.01.2022 Today I'm proud to celebrate International Women's Day. This day is particularly significant for the finance industry, with the number of women in the sector disproportionately low compared to other sectors, and the Australian population at large. It's a significant challenge we need to tackle to build a more inclusive industry (not just for females wanting to participate, but for all groups), as we continue to strive for better customer outcomes. Our Opportunities for Women... Program is continuing to go from strength-to-strength we're running a panel today with great buy-in from a variety of industry stakeholders. Plus, we're supporting the Four Brave Women initiative at an MFAA lunch this afternoon. Admittedly, these activities will only make a small difference, and this is why, as an industry, we all need to work together to make more significant change. #BalanceforBetter #IWD2019 See more

11.01.2022 Congratulations to all the awards finalists and winners at last night's MFAA State Excellence Awards QLD. This is our second last state awards and I continue to be astounded at the strength of finalists this year. The National Awards in July are certainly going to be fascinating!

11.01.2022 In a year full of challenges and turmoil, it has rarely been as necessary to stop and remind ourselves of what is most important, family. Happy Father’s Day to all from the MFAA Team. Enjoy this special day.

11.01.2022 Further bank support announced to assist customers once the initial 6 month deferral period ends. Australian Banking Association (ABA) media release also states that "in relation to credit reporting, for customers who recommence repayments on their existing loan or enter into a new repayment arrangement, their credit report will not be impacted, provided they meet the new repayment arrangements." - which is another great outcome for customers.

10.01.2022 We're now half way through the last event of our MFAA National Roadshow series, the Melbourne Roadshow! Looking back across our 2019 Roadshows, it was impressive to see such a strong turnout for all five events and I'm really pleased to have had the opportunity to speak with so many engaged members across the country. I’d like to acknowledge that this is the culmination of 12-months of hard work. My sincere thanks to the many sponsors and exhibitors that have supported us at... this year’s Roadshow and Awards events, and my special thanks to our MFAA Events team, Marketing team and the BDM team for making these events a success! Zarko Jokic (NSW/ACT BDM), Natalie Price (WA BDM), Wendy Robertson (SA/NT BDM), Leah Hudson (QLD BDM), and Kylie Louden (VIC/TAS BDM).

10.01.2022 Always a pleasure spending time with our WA members. Last night, we celebrated at the MFAA State Excellence Awards WA cheering on both finalists and winners for their excellence in customer service, professionalism, innovation and ethics amongst our members.

10.01.2022 While the Covid-19 pandemic has caused upheaval and great changes to our lifestyle, on this day of remembrance let us not forget the spirit of the Anzacs. Through difficult times, those on the frontline have protected us, helped us and have moved us forward towards a better future. May we remember and respect our soldiers, doctors, nurses and those who have worked tirelessly to reveal a light in the darkest times. May we be inspired during these unprecedented times to reflect a spirit of courage, respect and support. #LestWeForget #AnzacDay

10.01.2022 Wishing the best of luck to all finalists, for tonight’s Australian Mortgage Awards, organised by Australian Broker and Mortgage Professional Australia You have all worked extremely hard this year, delivering great consumer outcomes during a difficult period, so it’s important to take opportunities like tonight to enjoy yourselves and celebrate your achievements. I’m especially looking forward to presenting the Young Gun of the Year Award (Franchisee). I look forward to seeing you all tonight.

09.01.2022 The month of October is recognized as National Mental Health Month and this year’s theme is ‘Tune In’. It means being aware of what is happening within you and in the world around you. Being present by tuning in has been shown to help build self-awareness, help make effective choices, reduce the impact of worry, and build positive connections. With many of us working from home and having experienced an upheaval of our sense of normalcy due to COVID-19, now is an extremely imp...ortant time to tune in with ourselves, with others and listen to what it is that we are feeling. 07.01.2022 There have been heartbreaking stories from the thousands of Townsville residents who’ve had their homes ravaged by the recent floods. Incredibly pleased to share this story of one of our own members, Ashley Evans and his team at AAA+ Financial Solutions - Need Loan Advice? who were on the ground to help Townsville residents get back on their feet. A timely story from the latest edition of the ‘Long Road Tales of Regional Brokers.’ For the full story, click the link here: http://bit.ly/MFAA-2HrSHiN

07.01.2022 Looking forward to tomorrow’s MFAA Roadshow Perth. Always a great turnout of highly engaged members who have shown great resilience in recent years.

06.01.2022 I thoroughly enjoyed presenting at SFG's PD Day in Sydney today on the draft NCCP Amendment (mortgage broker) Bill 2019 and the MFAA's related advocacy activities. It is always great to be able to engage with our members and others to provide an update on key draft legislation and to discuss all of the work going on behind the scenes to ensure our customers will continue to benefit from a sustainable and competitive lending landscape well into the future.

06.01.2022 On air last night speaking with 2GB’s Ross Greenwood about the Government’s customer-focused decision on broker trail commission. Here’s the link to the full radio clipping:

06.01.2022 Looking forward to celebrating the amazing talent we have in our industry at the MFAA 2019 National Excellence Awards in Melbourne this evening!

06.01.2022 I was pleased to have the opportunity to attend Loan Market's international Game On conference in Hobart yesterday and to hear an address from the Treasurer, The Hon. Josh Frydenberg MP. His overall message is clear it is up to our industry to take responsibility for our future and to show that we can meet the challenge in demonstrating that we can manage any conflicts that arise from the continuation of upfront and trailing commissions. The ball is no doubt in our court however I am confident that we will continue to rise to the challenge. It was also an honour to share the stage with Sam White (Loan Market Chairman), Brian Greer (Loan Market NZ CEO) and Annie Kane (The Adviser Editor) in a panel discussion where we tackled some of the industry’s toughest questions.

05.01.2022 It has been a pleasure to speak with almost 1,900 MFAA members around the country for our opening series of MFAA PD events for 2019. To round out this series of events, I once again joined Richard King (GRACosway) in presenting to another full house of highly engaged members in Brisbane yesterday. During the day, we covered off the Royal Commission road to date, events leading up to the Don’t kill competition campaign, the impact it has had, and some of what lies ahead as ...we lead up to an election and beyond. Our members remain highly activated and yet composed and it has been incredible to see the way our industry has united at this critical time. Our sincere thanks to the many sponsors and exhibitors that have supported these important events and my special thanks to our MFAA Events team and the BDM team for making these events a success - Zarko Jokic (NSW/ACT BDM), Natalie Price (WA BDM), Wendy Robertson (SA/NT BDM), Leah Hudson(QLD BDM), and Kylie Louden (VIC/TAS BDM).

05.01.2022 Best of luck to the finalists in today’s MFAA State Excellence Awards QLD event! #MFAAawards #awards #QLD

04.01.2022 Another busy day ahead with a full diary of meetings on both sides of Parliament

04.01.2022 Looking forward to meeting our members and speaking at our MFAA PD day in Albury-Wodonga today.

04.01.2022 Greg Medcraft (Ex Chairman of ASIC) breaks his silence on the Royal Commission and describes recommendations to ban commissions to mortgage brokers as "absolute rubbish" and "anti-competitive". Also worth noting that ASIC's review of our industry under Greg Medcraft's leadership was the single largest data driven review ASIC has done of any industry... so no doubt a highly considered view...

03.01.2022 MFAA will later today release exciting news on the September quarter mortgage broker market share two records and a key milestone.

02.01.2022 Delighted to announce that brokers have recorded an outstanding 57.0% market share result for the June 2020 quarter. A great achievement in what is the traditional low point for the year. As COVID-19 has taken its toll, brokers have been working diligently with their clients to ensure they are in the best possible position to ride out the storm and improve on their current debt situation. Well done.

02.01.2022 Another productive day at Parliament House...

02.01.2022 Had a fantastic time last night at the SA/NT MFAA State Excellence Awards celebrating outstanding customer service, professionalism, innovation and ethics amongst our members and industry partners. A big thank you to our sponsors and congratulations to the finalists and award winners. All truly deserving recipients and wonderful representatives of our great industry. Click the link below for the story from Australian Broker.

02.01.2022 Great to be out and about today in a studio for the #PLAN Australia Digital PD Day. Thanks Anja and team for the invite to participate in today’s panel discussion. #PLAN

01.01.2022 Great to spend the last few hours speaking with NSW brokers regarding the NCCP Amendment (Mortgage Broker) Bill and to have the opportunity to provide our thoughts and get feedback. Clearly a number of questions and points to work through to ensure the Best Interest Duty and other reforms are both workable and effective. We look forward to the upcoming Broker Roundtable events in other major cities.

01.01.2022 The MFAA is fortunate to have five highly capable female board members - including the chair and deputy chair - out of a total of six. These women are all highly successful brokers in their own right and continue to play a critical role in providing strong leadership and support for the executive team at the MFAA at this challenging time for our industry helping to guide the Association’s response to the Royal Commission. We are delighted to see their professionalism and acco...mplishments highlighted in the latest Australian Broker, released today on International Women’s Day. Thank you ladies for the amazing work you do #BalanceforBetter #IWD2019 https://www.brokernews.com.au//leading-by-example-261086.a

01.01.2022 Pleased to present the MFAA's mental health 'Accidental Counsellor' initiative in collaboration with Lifeline to our members in Melbourne yesterday. A timely event in light of the incredibly challenging time our industry has experienced. By making these awareness-raising and skills-based resources available, the MFAA is enabling our members to not only give back to the communities they engage with and serve but to also be able to support their colleagues at this trying time.

01.01.2022 Good luck to all the State Finalists for this evening’s MFAA National Excellence Awards. Join us at 5.30pm (AEST) in support of your peers as we celebrate the national winners of 2020! https://bit.ly/38AxU7q #MFAAawards

01.01.2022 I’m pleased to share the MFAA's second Opportunities for Women report. The findings of this report unlock the potential for greater inclusive leadership and industry culture to provide opportunities for every individual to prosper. It is vital that industry leaders promote open-minded business practices and pursue cultural change through inclusive values and behaviours. Evidently, it is not only socially responsible but there is a solid business case for industry leaders to ...act. I would like to acknowledge the sponsors who have actively supported this initiative for a second year with their time, people and resources. Their efforts to support change, along with that of the MFAA Community Panel members who took time away from their businesses to contribute, will help to transform report recommendations into actions that will ensure this initiative’s success.
