20.01.2022 Did You Know??? Mould growing in showers is extremely common, it is caused by moisture left sitting on the tiles repeatedly day after day. The only way to stop this from happening is to dry down your shower after each clean. The easiest way? squeegee.... Squeegee, the glass, the wall tiles, the floor, then wipe ope it with a dry cloth or towel. Even better a chamois - like you dry your car with. Keep it close by for convenience. It's pretty hard to form a new habit if you've made it inconvenient and unpractical to do so. As cleaners, we can get some amazing results, by removing the visible mould from the grout lines. But the reality is, the roots of the mould are embedded deep into the grout. It will grow back, within weeks, maybe months, depending on how well you dry it after each use. Your only fix? Re-grout the whole shower, and then dry after each use from the beginning If your shower is mouldy, we will just treat it during each clean to remove the visible mould from the surface, so it'll look amazing after the clean, but will gradually creep back in between our visits. Now for something even more annoying! Mould in the silicon! Your only fix is to replace the silicon altogether. To improve it in the meantime, you can pour thick bleach along the silicon and lay paper towels on there to keep the bleach from running off. Leave it for 24 hours and you should have an improvement. But you've only removed it from the surface, and it will come back. If you hire a cleaner (any cleaner) and they come once a fortnight or less, and mould starts forming in the silicon, it is not necessarily because he or she isn't cleaning it properly. It is more likely due to moisture sitting there for hours each and every day in between cleans. Hate to be the bearer of bad news On a positive note: By squeegeeing and drying the shower daily, not only do you almost eliminate the chance of mould forming, you also won't get the dreaded hard water and soap scum build up on your shower glass, and it will look brand new for years to come.
