21.01.2022 Michelle Leonard OAM, one of Australia’s most recognised choral directors, was our Musical Director on the Gala Opening and bandabara concert on 15 November. Michelle worked with us all year to commission 7 new pieces of music which premiered at the Milbi Festival, many of which were written by local composers. Michelle worked with Robert McLellan as cultural consultant and Mic Gruchy as projection designer to develop the concept for the bandabara concert. Michelle worked wi...th choral conductors from six local schools which led to a performance by a choir of 60 young people joining Topology at the opening concert. What a treat it was! We hope you got to see it. Michelle Maria Leonard

18.01.2022 The difficult decision has been made to cancel Milbi Festival 2020 due to the Coronavirus. With future restrictions unknown, we are unable to proceed with the festival. Watch this space, because we’ll be back bigger and better in 2021.

18.01.2022 Thunderous applause filled the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre last night at the Milbi Stories - Festival Closing Event. ABC Wide Bay's Scott and Brad set the scene with the final Voices in the Dark and Topology led us on one last adventure with music students from Kalkie State School and St John's Lutheran Primary School Bundaberg as well as the Bundaberg Sinfonietta #bundysinfonietta. The auditorium was filled with amazing sights as well as sounds with the amazing videograp...hy of David Quarrell's Out of the Depths. It was a sensational celebration to mark the success of the Milbi Festival and all those involved.

18.01.2022 Topology, one of the country’s most widely acclaimed contemporary music ensembles from Brisbane, was the Milbi Festival’s Ensemble in Residence. They played at the opening bandabara concert at the Moncrieff, five small halls around the region and featured in the closing event back at the Moncrieff. Topology commissioned local filmmakers, David Quarrell and Johnny Nicol, to create a 35 minute film featuring the Burnett River system and the lifecycles of fresh and salt water ...turtles. This film was played with a live score, all written by local composers and Topology’s John Babbage. It’s been a joy to work with Topology this year!

09.01.2022 Buss Park is looking a little lonely now that the colourful Milbi Festival School Banner Art Installation have been de-mounted. Thank you to all the schools that were involved across the region in all facets of this festival. 02.01.2022 A little retrospective of our Milbi Festival Gala Opening event at Buss Park on Friday 15 November 2019. Our fabulous Buss Park was transformed and reimagined for a performance featuring 120 young people dancing, two drummers Grant Collins and Samuel Monk as well as three local singers Chelsea Stutchbury, Jess Savage and Natalie Sweetapple. And we couldn’t have done this without our resident choreographers, Trevor Green and Robert McLellan, and the time, effort and commitment of teachers, parents and carers of our young dancers who supported them throughout the rehearsal period. Here’s the park transformed a few days compressed into a minute.
