25.01.2022 We love the horses from next door! They spend time at Milbrodale Farm when no guests are staying and we see them galloping through the vines, relaxing under the olive trees, keeping the grass under control - and leaving deposits everywhere! And when guests stay, they head home. BUT do love apples and carrots and lots of pats!

25.01.2022 What do you do when its a cold wet miserable day? Start servicing the vehicles. First up - our little forklift - still a few things to finish but sounding much better!

25.01.2022 Wishing all our friends and family a safe and healthy Easter. May the Easter Bunny find you all at home in your own little bubbles! PS Had to have a taste of Brodies new fortified wine.... its going to be a good one!

24.01.2022 Every now and then we need a little bit of cuteness in our lives... and just down the road from Milbrodale Farm is the Starline Alpaca Farmstay Resort. Love all their alpacas! And also their sheep, goats, pigs and chickens! A great place to drop by and spend a bit of time - good for the soul!

24.01.2022 Love Sunday morning breakfasts!

23.01.2022 Who would have believed we had massive storms here yesterday!

23.01.2022 It was an afternoon of crazy storms today just as I arrived at the vineyard! I thought I would sit it out in the car ... until the hail hit! Totally soaked getting the car into the shed for cover! Fortunately not too much damage but we had some trees come down and a few leaning precariously towards the power lines. Fantastic service from the local SES team who sorted the dodgy trees. A huge thank you from us!

22.01.2022 Wahoo - we did it! Last night we cracked open our first wine from Milbrodale Farm - 2019 Shiraz. Our dear neighbour Alyssa joined us for the first tasting. Wow - what a fabulous wine - so proud and a huge thank you to Dan Binet from Ballabourneen By Binet Family Wines for crafting this for us. Its a small batch so put your order in now on www.shop.milbrodalefarm.com.au A huge thank you to our friends and family who have been with us on this journey. Were so proud! ... #milbrodalefarm #newwine #brokefordwichwines #visitnsw

22.01.2022 A very Happy Mothers Day to all the human and fur baby Mums - both here and forever remembered. Sending our love to you all.

22.01.2022 What a storm it was on Friday - the lightening seems to have blasted one of our neighbour’s trees and we were finding bark and wood fragments up to 50m through the Chambourcin vines!

21.01.2022 As the dawn breaks, we would like to acknowledge and pay our respect to the past, present and future Traditional Custodians of this nation - and more specifically, the Wonnarua people - who are the traditional landowners of the Hunter Valley. Wishing everyone a Happy Australia Day - stay safe and hope you are able to enjoy catching up with family and friends!

21.01.2022 Beautiful crisp !! morning at #milbrodalefarm. The birds are singing - time for a quick coffee and out to do some more pruning. Never ending... But cant rush talking to the vines as I go... Pep talk to grow amazing grapes for 2021! #milbrodalefarm #wintersun #pruningseason #brokefordwichwineregion... #brokefordwichwines #visitnsw See more

21.01.2022 After a cold wet and windy feral weekend - we have a very chilly but beautiful morning. Hot air balloons are up and the professional pruners have arrived to finish off the Shiraz vines for us. Not long now to bud burst!

21.01.2022 Hoping these will be our pot of gold for 2021! #milbrodalefarm #brokefordwich #brokefordwichwine... #visitnsw See more

20.01.2022 Despite the current COVID restrictions, it’s great to see that Sculpture in the Vineyards is still going ahead in the Laguna / Wollombi valleys.

20.01.2022 Pulling weeds & pegging down nets and at 8:35 it’s 27 degrees already! Is it too early to crack open an ice cold beer??

20.01.2022 What do you do when you don’t have a pool, it’s 38 degrees, and you so need to cool down? Improvise! Who knew picking bins could have so many different uses!

18.01.2022 Its amazing how things can change so much in the space of 8 months ... Late December 2019 - we had backburning on the ridge opposite us at Milbrodale Farm. This was done to protect us from the mega fire that was heading our way through the Yengo National Park. It was frightening, eery, yet mesmerising - but we had comfort that all would be ok, with all the Emergency Services on the ground and in the air managing it all. Today - a stunning winters day - and the new growth ...on the ridge is amazing to see. While we lost our grapes due to smoke taint, we are grateful the fire didnt make it over the ridge. Thank you to the RFS and other Emergency Teams for their service! #milbrodalefarm #smoketaint #RFS #bushfires

18.01.2022 The hail we had this afternoon caused some damage to the grapes and vines - but hopefully not too much. The Chambourcin grapes looked to be more exposed with bunches marked. The Shiraz didn’t seem to be too badly impacted. Will inspect in more detail when out and about in the vines tomorrow. Oh Mother Nature!

18.01.2022 As many of our friends know, we lost our 2020 vintage due to smoke taint. But we picked some of the Chambourcin to do a micro ferment to see if we could taste the smoke taint. Well it tasted horrendous, but look at that beautiful colour...

17.01.2022 This is exciting news! Looking forward to live concerts for 2021! Rover Coaches does a pick up/drop off from outside our front gate at Milbrodale Farm - perfect for guests staying with us. Check their website www.rovercoaches.com.au #milbrodalefarm #livemusic #huntervalley

17.01.2022 Brodie couldn’t resist telling me he was a little under the weather - station! A very wet week it was - about 52mm according to our little plastic water gauge. The fancy doodah weather station ... let’s just say it needs new batteries!

17.01.2022 The risk we have with all this rain and humidity - mildew! So Brodie is out spraying. I’m out taking suckers off the base of the vines and thinning. The growth is unbelievable!

17.01.2022 Its winter and pruning season has begun! A call out to some dear friends who enthusiastically rolled up their sleeves on a beautiful Sunday morning to help us out! A couple of rows done - just a LOT more to do!

17.01.2022 Its fun to do non work stuff when friends come to stay! Maybe inspiration for new experiences for guests? #milbrodalefarm #brokefordwich #visitnsw

17.01.2022 We did our first burn off last night - what with the demands of the vineyard, drought and bushfires - its something we havent been able to do until now. True to Brodies African roots, we had sundowners as we monitored the fire... Our Little Fire engine tractor was all rigged up - but all under control! This pile might take a few burns to get rid of it!

17.01.2022 Hi folks, thank you to everyone who has placed orders for wine already, so sensational to get such a good response, we have, however had some issues with Pay Pal so have turned it off as a payment option for now until we can get it sorted, isnt it just sad that a multi million dollar company that deals with internet payments only has customer service during business hours. Very poor if you ask me, you have no idea how livid I am right now. So, please be patient and we will get the payment system sorted as soon as we can. We are still taking direct deposits for those who cant wait for pay pal to decide that they want to help. Take care, stay safe and drink fantastic red wine.

15.01.2022 Supervising the pruners!

15.01.2022 We want all our guests to have a great time exploring the Hunter Valley but ... this is our new normal. Book your wine tastings and restaurants ahead of time to make sure you dont miss out or get refused entry.

13.01.2022 How could you not like Aldi? I went into buy dinner and came out with a new pair of work boots! Guess that means Im going to be busy doing some work in the vineyard! Well it is pruning season ... love my new !

12.01.2022 Welcome to the first day of Spring! Pruning all done and we now wait for budburst... #milbrodalefarm #brokefordwich #brokefordwichwine #visitnsw... #spring2020 #budburst See more

12.01.2022 Whats in a label? When its a wine label - quite a lot actually. Labels must display some key legal requirements including the type of wine, where its origins are, the alcohol content, the allergens, pregnancy warning and the number of standard drinks. It was quite an interesting exercise to design our first Milbrodale Farm label. Were super excited that our 2019 vintage is being bottled this week. Watch this space to see when it will be released and to see our new label!

11.01.2022 Its a misty morning at Milbrodale Farm... beanie on, gloves on - out pruning we go!

11.01.2022 Beautiful winters day at Milbrodale Farm - out taking the suckers off the olive trees.

10.01.2022 The local Broke market is back this Sunday!

10.01.2022 We’re in for a very WET week... and the rain has started. When I checked the water gauge this afternoon, we had 30mm and our new water tank is a quarter full. Hope the vines don’t get washed away!

09.01.2022 Brodie tested the Shiraz this morning. We’re tracking at 11 Baume - this is the indicator for sugar levels and ripeness. We’re aiming for 12-13 so a little way yet before we pick. See the video in the next post for Brodie’s Shedlab testing! At this stage - it looks to be the weekend of 13th for picking the Shiraz. Will be in touch with everyone who messaged that they were interested to pick - after this weekend. If you would like to join us for a fun weekend - let us know by ...messenger or notify us on our FB event. Picking for the Chambourcin is still a couple more weeks away yet.

09.01.2022 Testing our Shiraz

08.01.2022 A very wet Sunday morning at #milbrodalefarm ...loving the rain - its filled up our new IBC - or Brodies standby firefighting tank - just hope we never have to use it!

08.01.2022 Its just wonderful to be able to go back to our local pub - the Bulga Tavern - fabulous food - fabulous hospitality!

08.01.2022 Its hard to believe ... it was two years ago when Brodie and I bought Milbrodale Farm - and what an adventure it has been! Our first vintage will be released in a couple of weeks - so excited! Weve had drought, smoke, fires and backburning, our 2020 vintage sadly has been lost to smoke taint, floods and were now dealing with COVID-19. But through all of this, we are grateful to our guests for staying in The Shedhouse and for the support of our friends and family. Looking forward to many more years of making great wine! #milbrodalefarm

07.01.2022 Flies bad today - but I have my net on! Lizzie 1 : Flies 0!

04.01.2022 It’s going to be a HOT weekend! It’s been a roller coaster of weather that Mother Nature has thrown at us over the last few months - but we are not letting her beat us! My baby Chambourcin are going gang busters. Up at dawn to do a bit of thinning as too many bunches! Is 9am too early to have a cold beer??

04.01.2022 Were so looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

03.01.2022 Stunning late Friday afternoon skies at #milbrodalefarm

03.01.2022 We are SO EXCITED! We were able to taste our 2019 Shiraz - our first wine for Milbrodale Farm and simply delicious!
