22.01.2022 The best parental investment I’ve made! I bought this safe back at the start of homeschooling as I couldn’t bear the thought of my kids being at home 24hrs a day with devices in the house and me having to continually know where the devices were, what they were watching and how much tech time they have had! So I bought a safe, installed it in my wardrobe and now lock it all away when I want! They haven’t even worked out the code yet! It gives us all a break from it and ...the funny thing is when it’s out of sight it’s out of mind! The kids tend to go back to being ‘kids’ and I can go about my business without having to watch them every minute or have the guilt of knowing they have had too much time on it! 15.01.2022 This is the ‘normal’ newborn behaviour in those early days.... the amount of times we get concerned parents ringing us concerned their milk isn’t ‘in’ (on day 2) but it’s normal to not have milk straight away as your newborns tummy couldn’t possibly cope with the volume and you would end up with blocked ducts and mastitis as they aren’t being emptied! There is a lot that happens in the early days, a lot of emotions (on sleep deprived parents) and overwhelming/ conflicting advice but persist with knowing your body and baby knows what to do so if you trust in the process it will all be ok. #askforhelp #breastfeeding #theydontneedabottle #itsallnormal #bepatient #trustintheprocess

09.01.2022 Your newborn and sleep! Try to remember your newborn is very immature developmentally so keep things VERY simple and VERY consistent in the early days. In the womb they have a very constant source of temperature, lighting, movement, noise and even a constant feeding drip! So it’s no surprise that they seem a bit unsettled when we suddenly bombard them with lights, different temperatures, needles, clothes, wet wipes, different people holding them, baby Einstein etc etc etc...... Once you get home remember all your newborn needs is food, sleep and comfort so keep it simple. Try to keep things consistent with sleep cues, comforts and patterns you are offering your baby and in time they will know what’s coming. Until then it’s trial and error, but try not to over analyse their behaviours, newborns are inconsistent and will have good days and bad days no matter what sleeping bags you put them in, what temperature you have your heater on or what song you sing to them before bed! #keepitsimple #trynoottooveranalyse #sleepandsettling #consistencyiskey #newbornbaby #sleeppromotessleep @evokeimages See more

She was a wonderful midwife and we feel privileged to have had the pleasure of working alongside her. It was always a joy to be on shift with Torie and our unit will miss her terribly. 06.01.2022 Have you used a nipple shield? Nipple shields are made from a soft silicone and can help some women achieve a better latch of your baby to your breast if you are having issues. They are usually temporary and should be introduced once the milk is in. If you are using one, please make sure you have the correct fit and that it has been applied correctly as if this isn’t correct it can interfere with milk transfer or cause nipple damage. In time you and your baby will be ready to wean off the shields so be patient and keep persisting. 04.01.2022 I have done a lot of learning since Mabel's diagnosis came out of no where. This was never on my plan and we got sent on the off road version of life. In those early days my mind was on a constant loop full of panic, sadness, grief and a hell of a lot of fear. Just as I would try and find a little bit of peace, the loop would start again. I actually started to think I was going a little crazy until I opened this book! I read this book with mainly happy tears, happy just becau...se I got the reassurance that there really is light at the end of what seems like a never ending tunnel! Because I love this book, not only for parents drowning in a diagnosis but also for their friends and family and anyone else for that matter to gain a little more insight into raising a disabled child we are now stocking @the_special_book in the shop. Not an essential item for breastfeeding but using a pillow to feed can help you have your baby supported and closer to your breast which can aid in a more optimum attachment. This is especially useful if you are tempted to lean into your baby and put your breast to them rather than bringing the baby to the breast. It can also help with your posture in keeping your back straight which helps the strain on your neck and shoulders. 01.01.2022 We have been a little quiet on here lately!!!! Milc was born almost 10 years ago when Cassie took the leap into private practice starting Milc as a sole trader providing lactation consultancy! Seeing a need for greater maternal support I joined forces and together after some study, hoop jumping and more study we created a unique service offering antenatal classes, antenatal care and the heart of our service, postnatal and lactation support to the women in Orange and surrounds.... In 2016 we expanded into our little retail space all whilst working, consulting, studying and most importantly being mums and wives. It’s been busy but we are also proud of what we have achieved. so fulfilling and we are very proud of what 2 friends can achieve! Cassie has decided to head back to employment at the hospital now that her babies are older and they need her in a different way. Whilst the both of us are sad that our partnership has come to an end, Cassie is looking forward having more quality time with her family. She will still be doing what she loves and is passionate about working as part of the midwifery in the home program and I am sure many of you will be lucky enough to have her care for you. We always feel privileged for being allowed to be a part of your precious journey and we thank you for all your continued support throughout the years. As for Milc and our little Milcshop it is business as usual. And I would like to thank you for your patience during this time of transition as I work out how the hell I will do it without my partner! Cass, thanks for a wonderful 10 years. We should be proud of Milc as it really is a wonderful service and I do feel so happy that we have helped so many mums and families on their own transition into parenthood. We have high breastfeeding rates and that is really due to sitting on people's couches providing our number one secret receipe of reassurance. Thank you for holding down the fort especially whilst I struggled with my own transition into parenting Mabel, I know it wasn't easy for you during those years. I really wish you all the happiness and I am going to miss our Wednesdays together in the shop

But, it also could be more than late talking. There’s no good way to tell early on and also, if it were my child, I’d want them to have the opportunity to communicate sooner and easier than later with more frustrations REGARDLESS of the cause for the speech/language delay! So if your child is not meeting milestones, go ahead and make the call- get some info and get your child some assistance if they need it! #normalizeintervention
