23.01.2022 Hi all Irlen Clients, The Mildura Irlen Clinic will open again on Monday June 22nd. I know many of you have rung me so keep in touch and I will make an appointment for you.... PH: 04 3832 7764 Covid 19 restrictions will apply so I ask that only the client and one other person attend the appointments. There will also be some other differences. - social distancing - I will be the only one touching overlays and lenses. It will all be explained to you when you make an appointment. All easy. I am still happy to work weekends and do Zoom initial assessments. I will not be travelling yet. Looking forward to seeing you soon. 19.01.2022 DID JOHN LENNON HAVE IRLEN SYNDROME? John Lennon's beautiful music with the Beatles would not have existed without his perseverance through many challenges in his life, including dyslexia. Lennon excelled at art and music while attending high school, but his grades were poor and he had trouble spelling. He was rowdy in the classroom and was called a troublemaker. John can be seen wearing the 14 carat gold spectacles, which use an early version of photo chromatic glass (a lens...Continue reading

15.01.2022 To all my clients and friends of Irlen, especially in Mildura and surrounds. I wish you all a happy, peaceful and successful New Year. I especially remember Gloria Thomas who was such a friend, mentor and help to me and many others Happy 2020! Jan

15.01.2022 Hi everybody, Hope you are keeping well during these trying times. The Irlen office is not open in Mildura at the moment. However, I am happy to take calls and discuss issues with you re your Irlen lenses. The Melbourne Office is not open either. However the Perth Lab is, as they stay in their office and make lenses. So if you need another pair made they are taking orders. I have sent away all the orders that I have. Will advise you when they arrive. When we reopen I wi...ll go to Swan Hill and Broken Hill to see clients. So you can certainly book ahead. Thank you for your understanding. Look after yourselves Cheers Jan See more

14.01.2022 WHO EVER SAID THAT IRLEN LENSES TEACH KIDS TO READ? I wish that I knew the answer, because that statement is used constantly to advise parents and teachers to d...isregard the benefits gained by people with the visual processing dysfunction that is known as Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome or Irlen Syndrome or Meares-Irlen Syndrome. (They all mean the same thing). Let's look at just what does occur for a student if they are found to have visual processing difficulties that are corrected by Spectral Filters (Irlen lenses). Some members of organised anti-Irlen groups believe or tell people that providing a child with Irlen lenses diverts them from the evidence-based learning interventions that they require to overcome their reading/learning difficulties. THIS IS NOT TRUE! That is like saying that providing a child with corrective lenses (that presumably help them to be able to see words more clearly) is diverting them from the same evidence-based learning interventions. BOTH Irlen lenses and prescription lenses are simply AIDS that help the child to see the words more clearly. Once the child receives either their Irlen lenses, prescription lenses or the combination of both (some children and adults require their prescription lenses to be tinted) they STILL REQUIRE INTERVENTION at school, so they are not denied the intervention that they require to "catch up" the information that they have missed out on while they could not see the words clearly. This belief is preventing those students whose reading difficulties are due to a visual processing dysfunction from receiving the help that they need in order to be able to access those evidence-based interventions that they need. So, if you have a child who is struggling at school for no apparent reason, please consider that they may have a visual processing dysfunction that is causing them their difficulties. They will not necessarily describe what words look like, because they are not aware that what they see is not necessarily what others see when looking at the same page. #irlensyndrome #visualprocessing #dyslexia #dyslecksia #disleksea #evidencebased #evidencebasedintervention #catchingup #intervention #tutoring #prescriptionlenses #optometriclenses #visualperception #perception for further information about visual processing problems go to www.irlendyslexia.com

07.01.2022 Hi to all the Irlen people in Mildura and surrounds. Hope you are all keeping well in this time of lock down! I have been attending meeting with Irlen diagnosticians form all over the world re Zoom. Has been great to talk to them all. ... Sandy Tosta ( Helen Irlen's daughter ) has distributed a screening test to be used by diagnosticians over Zoom. It is a great resource. So I can now do screenings anywhere in my area, for Irlen, during this time of the Corona Virus. Please contact me of you would like a screening done. Message on this site or pone 0438327764 Also if you need help with Zoom. Keep well. Jan

06.01.2022 A very good read and this is exactly what screeners and diagnosticians do, Mildura has both available.

02.01.2022 Well said Peter. So true. So many students become dysfunctional and behavioural problems They are very frustrated because they do not understand why their work is so difficult for them
