24.01.2022 The second round-robin billiards tournament was held yesterday at the RSL and there were some very close matches as well as three drawn games. All matches were of 15 minutes duration & in group #1, Ryan Gathercole was the stand-out player, winning four of his five matches. Ryan defeated Grub Hamence, Col Hamence, Lindsay Rolton & Dennis Saunders and his only loss was to veteran Ian Bishop. As well as getting the better of Ryan, Ian defeated Lindsay & Col and then drew with Gr...ub in their match. In group #2, Setu Tuifao played really well and won four of his five matches, defeating Mark Webb, Allan Hamence, Glen Horwood & John Durbidge with his only loss being to Kevin Rogers. There were some great scores from this group considering the short quarter-hour timeframe, with John Durbidge hitting up a 60 against Mark Webb & he followed up by a 69 against Allan Hamence. Glen Horwood scored 60 in his first match whilst Mark Webb scored freely against Kevin Rogers to rack up an excellent score of 66. Preliminary results, group #1; Ryan Gathercole 4 wins & 1 loss Ian Bishop 3 wins, 1 loss & 1 draw Dennis Saunders 3 wins & 2 losses Col Hamence 2 wins, 2 losses & 1 draw Grub Hamence 1 win, 2 losses & 2 draws Lindsay Rolton 5 losses Preliminary results, group #2; Setu Tuifao 4 wins & 1 loss Kevin Rogers 3 wins & 2 losses (230 points) Glen Horwood 3 wins & 2 losses (210 points) Mark Webb 3 wins & 2 losses (207 points) John Durbidge 2 wins & 3 losses Allan Hamence 5 losses In the semi-finals, Setu Tuifao defeated Ian Bishop 53 to 26 and Kevin Rogers defeated Ryan Gathercole 44 to26 which set up a repeat of the encounter these two players had in the final of the first round robin back in December. Kevin once again got the better of Setu to win the day and collect the prize money, with Setu earning the prize money for his second place finish. See more

24.01.2022 Just a reminder that the Interclub snooker season will kick off on Monday 24th & Wed 26th February, with 7 teams entered. The draw and handicap list are being finalised and will be distributed to captains soon. Best of luck to all players & teams for the 2020 season

23.01.2022 Unfortunately nothing good to report about recommencement of our local snooker & billiards competition and I’m sure many of our players are really missing the games and comradery. Anyway, on a more positive note, the Snooker World Championship is underway at The Crucible Theatre in England, albeit without crowds. The qualifying rounds have been completed and the top 16 qualifiers have been drawn, in round #1, against the top 16 seeded players. Judd trump, the #1 seed, has pro...gressed to the 2nd round with a 10/8 win over #26 seed Tom Ford. Our Aussie representative, #2 seed & 2010 world champion Neil Robertson has also progressed to the 2nd round with a convincing 10/5 win over Liang Wenbo (#34). My favorite player & five-time world champion, Ronnie ‘The Rocket’ O’Sullivan (seeded #6), annihilated Thepchaiya Un-Nooh (#20) 10 frames to 1 in a World Championship record time of 108 minutes. 14 of the 16 round one matches have been completed and four of the top seeded players have been eliminated by qualifiers; David Gilbert (#12 seed) lost 8/10 to Kurt Maflin (#43 seed) Jack Lisowski (#13) lost 9/10 to Anthony McGill (#39) Shaun Murphy (#10) lost 4/10 to Noppon Saengkham (#42) Mark Allen (#4) lost 8/10 to Jamie Clarke (#90). In a great start to his career, Ben Mertens, aged 15, became the youngest ever player to win a world championship match when he won his first qualifier game against James Cahill. Unfortunately Ben lost his 2nd qualifier match but will no doubt be a player to watch in the future. See more

15.01.2022 A Round Robin scratch snooker tournament was held at the RSL on Sunday 19th January, with some great snooker played throughout the day. The 12 players were split into two groups with all matches time-based for 15 minutes. In group #1, Glen Horwood was an early favourite after winning his first three frames but he couldn’t maintain his early form and lost his next two matches. Ian Bishop and Setu Tuifao each won four of their five matches and progressed to the semi finals. In ...group #2, Col Hamence and Rod Jones each won three matches but Rod progressed to the semis with a higher overall score than Col. Lindsay Rolton defeated Col Hamence, Peter Gray, Rod Jones & Stewart Stevens and led group #2 with his only loss being to Grub Hamence. Considering the short time period there were some interesting scores but with 33 frames played for the day, Kevin Rogers was the only player to finalise a frame within the 15 minutes. After playing really well in the earlier matches, Lindsay was beaten by Setu in the semi-final whilst in the other semi, Ian defeated Rod by just four points in a very close encounter. The final was another very close match with Setu defeating Ian by four points. Congratulations Setu, well played. See more

11.01.2022 The Alex Johnson Memorial snooker & billiards summer competition resumed last night after the Christmas/New Year break and although there was only a relatively small field of 9 players, there was some good snooker & billiards played. Dennis Saunders played really well and won both his matches against Setu Tuifao. Glen Horwood defeated Lachy Neimann in their billiards match however in a surprise result, Lachy turned the table on Glen and defeated him on the black ball in snooker. Col Hamence narrowly defeated Kevin Rogers in their billiards match however Kevin won the snooker match in another close encounter. Ian Bishop won both his matches against Stewart Stevens however Dennis won the night as his winning margin was 7 points more than Ian.

07.01.2022 I’ve pinched this from the local 8 ball association Facebook page (hope you don’t mind) as it’s well written & very appropriate to our snooker & billiards association. G'day all. In light of ALL of our health and our families, I think this is a fair expectation from each and every one of us. If you are unwell with flu symptoms stay home. ... Please wash your hands with soap or hand sanitizer immediately before & after your frame as virus could be spread on the table. No hand shaking, no high 5’s, fist bumps, hugging or kissing. A simple ‘good luck’, ‘all the best’, ‘thanks for the game’, etc will suffice. Thanks, stay well & have fun.

06.01.2022 Round 5 of the Alex Johnson Memorial snooker & billiards summer competition was played last night with a full field of 12 players. Stewart Stevens, Ian Bishop & Kevin Rogers were the only players to win both their snooker & billiards matches. Col Hamence and Rod Jones played with Col winning the snooker and Rod the billiards. Setu Tuifao and Shane Pitt also won one game each as did Peter Gray and a new player, Victor. Stewart defeated Kiata Sauaso with a winning margin of just 7 points, Kevin defeated Dennis Saunders with a margin of 27 points but Ian’s winning margin of 33 points against Lachy Neimann was enough for him to win the night. There have now been five different winners to date so with just two more weeks to go it will be interesting to see if one or two of those five can win another night in the next two weeks.

06.01.2022 Mildura Snooker would like to wish Rory Jowett the very best in the upcoming Australian championships commencing on Sunday. Rory travels to Albury tomorrow to play in the snooker, billiards & 8-ball Under 18 championships at the Commercial Club in Albury. Congratulations Rory on your selection, you are a great player and a fantastic competitor and we are confident that you will play at your very best throughout these championships.

06.01.2022 Interclub snooker kicks off next week with 7 teams entered this year. On Monday night at the RSL, Grub Hamence’s RSL White comes up against Ian Bishop’s Red Cliffs Gold team. Wednesday night at the Red Cliffs Club, Red Cliffs Black will do battle with the premiers from last year, RSL Gold whilst RSL Green and the strong RSL Miscues will play at the RSL. Rod Jones’ RSL Purple team has the bye in round #1. Early favourites for this year’s flag would have to be RSL Miscues, fea...turing John Durbidge, Rory Jowett, Lindsay Rolton, Luke Jowett and Dale Land, however as all these players have very low handicaps they will need to play well against some of the higher handicapped players in other teams to ensure success. RSL Green, with Kiata Sauaso at the helm and with some new players able to score relatively freely, might surprise a few teams this year. A few players have nominated themselves as fill-ins this year. Players may shift between different teams, but once a player has played three games or more with a particular team, they are bound to that team for the remainder of that season. Also, a player may only play for three different teams as a fill-in. Looking forward to some great snooker for the 2020 season and wishing the very best to all players for this year’s competition. 06.01.2022 Round 6 of the Alex Johnson Memorial snooker & billiards summer competition was played last night, again with a full field of 12 players. Elyse Harris, Ricky Howell & Dwaine Howser joined in for their first games in this season’s summer comp, and whilst a bit rusty on the big table, all played well. Mark Webb played Stewart Stevens, Dwaine Howser played Shane Pitt & Lachy Neimann played John Durbidge with each player winning one frame each. Kevin Rogers, Elyse Harris & Victor... were the only players to win both their snooker & billiards matches. Elyse beat Ricky in snooker and then in billiards, whilst Kevin defeated Col Hamence and Victor cleaned up Kiata Sauaso in both their matches, however Kevin’s margin of 50 points was enough for him to win overall, finishing just in front of Elyse with her margin of 36 points. Next Wednesday will be the last for this season’s summer comp unless one of the previous winners from the earlier rounds can win round 7 and force a playoff against Kevin for the overall winner of the competition. Members will be able to purchase a drink &/or a meal in the bistro and the snooker bar but unfortunately use of the snooker tables won’t be permitted at this time. Allan Hamence played Grub Hamence, Setu Tuifao played Kevin Rogers, Shane Pitt played Victor and Rod Jones played Col Hamence with each player winning one frame. Ian Bishop looked likely to win the night when he defeated Dennis Saunders in both his frames but Lachy Neimann had other ide...as and he went on to easily defeated Jason Low in both frames and with a winning margin of 58 points, Lachy picked up the weekly prize money. Congratulations to Lachy in his first season playing snooker & billiards and due to his improvement, his handicap could be adjusted before the interclub snooker season commences next month. Throughout the seven weeks of this tournament, there was six different winners Dave Mattiazzo, John Durbidge, Kevin Rogers, Dennis Saunders, Ian Bishop & Lachy Neimann however as Kevin was the only player to win on two occasions, he is the winner of the 2019/2020 snooker & billiards summer competition See more

04.01.2022 Congratulations Rory Jowett, fantastic achievement. Rory will be representing Australia in eight-ball in England at the world championship in July this year. His selection is as a result of his success in the under-18 Australian championships where he was part of the South Australian winning team and was also runner-up in the Australian under-18 singles title. Rory also this month competed in the Australian under-18 billiards championship and was a semi-finalist in the Australian under-18 snooker championship. Great results and plenty more to come from this champion young player.
