25.01.2022 Wiggle Friday! Our community worm farm is cared for by all our children and educators. Did you know Worm Farms are an efficient way to reduce household waste and produce nutrient-rich fertilizer for the garden. In fact, worms can consume and compact waste so well that they can reduce the volume of organic matter by 95 per cent!
24.01.2022 Meet Cat! Cat uses the emotions curious, happy and cranky as tools for children to express their feelings throughout the day. The Kimochi program is a big aspect of our wellbeing program, providing the children with opportunities to explore emotions, how they may look, sound, feel and regulate.

21.01.2022 ‘Putting children first’ was front of mind when the National Child Protection Week campaign was launched in 1990. Putting children first means prioritising the safety and wellbeing of children. To grow up well children need to feel safe and loved, have a chance to play and explore, have a say in decisions that affect them, and access to essential things like food, shelter and healthcare. For children to thrive we need to continually come together as a community and put children’s needs first. Our children this week have been exploring how they feel safe and loved, through play, books, create arts and collaborative discussions.
21.01.2022 Celebrating You! Father's Day is this Sunday the first Sunday of September! COVID certainly has changed our celebrations this year, but we still enjoyed a take away smoko for our dads and special people today to say Thank you!
20.01.2022 Over the past several weeks we have been gathering our family, Children and community perspectives around new menu ideas. Every two years we have our menu assessed under Nutrition Australia to ensure we are providing the children nutritious, multicultural foods and promoting healthy eating. Our Centre Cook, Darrien, has started to collate all of our family and children's perspectives working in partnership with Sunraysia Community Health in creating new menus.

15.01.2022 An exciting virtual tour for families to watch while spending time at home! https://facebook.com/events/s/free-virtual-tour-african-safa/282200479746416/
15.01.2022 Phonics forms a strong base for our literacy and language program. But there are so many fun ways to explore so many concepts of learning during play. This literacy experience the children explored opened a world of learning opportunities for the children. Before exploring the sounds hiding amongst the ice we hypothesised, experimented with trial and error, strengthened our fine motor and social skills. With the warmer weather kicking at home there are so many fun ice exploration experiences you can create with the family! A treasure hunt on your next walk to the park, using all the goodies found place them in a recycled ice cream container or ice trays, fill with water and pop in the freezer.
14.01.2022 This afternoon the children enjoyed some time in the garden picking some fresh silverbeet ready for Lynise to cook up tomorrow for lunch. #healthyeating#exploringvegetables#homegrown
14.01.2022 Happy International Day of Older Persons to all of our grandparents and other special people in the children's lives! International Day of Older Persons is an opportunity to highlight the important contributions that older people make to our society. Today the Starfish Room children demonstrated great understanding of this special calendar event as they expressed their creativity while painting such beautiful pieces of artwork to post in the mail to their Grandparents and Special People. When prompted for ideas to brighten our local aged care home residents days while they aren't receiving visitors, the children were quick to suggest "drawings!". As they also set off to create meaningful cards and paintings to gift to a local aged care home.
13.01.2022 At the end of each term we like to critically reflect on our routines drawing on everyone's perspectives. This helps our team to review what is working and what is not working in the current approaches, practice, experiences, and how we might implement further strategies that will result in improved outcomes for our educators, families, community and children’s wellbeing, learning and development. Our starfish team enjoyed the sunshine over the weekend to collaborate and reflect on this past term. While our little starfish friends have been exploring their room floor book to express their perspectives.

08.01.2022 Our Educators in the Starfish room have been working closely with Ashleigh from the Aurora School in Melbourne around sign language and learning experiences. We are thankful for technology as the children zoomed into a session with Ashleigh and she signed the story "Brown Bear, Brown Bear". The children enjoyed the learning experience, so engaged copying Ashleigh's AUSLAN signs asking for Brown Bear to be read once more, effectively signing the words "more" and "thank you" to communicate with Ashleigh.

06.01.2022 Exploring our family cultures. Family cultural flags on building blocks. This fun interactive experience provided children with the opportunity to further explore the cultures within our room through a creative and challenging activity. 04.01.2022 This year marks our centres 15th SunSmart Birthday. That’s a brilliant achievement! Through the efforts of member services such as ours and a more sun awareness in the community, we are seeing a decline in melanoma rates in people under 60 who have spent half of their life exposed to sun protection messages. During the sun protection times (typically from mid-August to the end of April in Victoria), please make sure children from about two years of age have some experience of applying their own sunscreen as this is a skill they will need to develop before starting school and becomes a life long skill.
