22.01.2022 One More Grad! - My abject apologies for missing our special girl Shadow . There is always a chance with so many groups going through to graduation that I may miss a pic. I am sure Shadows mum Margot will know that I would never do so intentionally. Shadow first came to us at MDDT as a baby puppy pre schooler. She has since then landed in the lap of the dog gods with a new home with owners who love her dearly. She is one smart little cookie and has breezed through her Be...ginner level and we hope to see her out here regularly. Apologies again Margot. Regards Bron Welsh See more

21.01.2022 Christmas Shopping!! - It’s almost upon us - Christmas 2020 - it’s time to celebrate and give gifts to the special people in our lives. But please don’t forget our special furred friends as well. Particularly this year like no other - our doggos have been there to give us company and unconditional love through a difficult year. So, a suggestion for a great present for your dogs on Christmas Day. ... What better gift than a bag of our Paws For A Purpose tasty treats. It’s a win/win!! Gift for your dog and the proceeds going to the amazing Parvo Project. They cost $10 per bag and are available only from MDDT. The other suggestion is a new product called a Lickimat that is good for dogs environmental enrichment. They are pictured in the photo with Mitchell the Whippet. They can be spread with Peanut Butter, Cheese Spread, Yoghurt or any tasty product that encourages your dog to settle down and lick the mat clean - dogs love them! They cost $12. So there’s your Christmas Shopping done for the Doggo

20.01.2022 Juvenile Graduants - For anyone unaware, some time ago we added a Juvenile level of training for youngsters 16 to 24 weeks of age. This was because some youngsters are to old for baby puppy classes which close off at 16 weeks of age. But sometimes these Juvies are too puppyish to go straight into classes with all of the dogs 6 month’s or older. So we (with one of our previous trainers Louise Rowe) creates the Juvenile level for youngsters 16 to 24 weeks of age.... It has worked so well that we’ve continued to offer it as part of our core courses. The photos below are of our Sunday morning Grads. Their trainer - Graeme Kelly and assistant trainer Nicola - commented on what great progress these groups had made and what a joy they were to coach. Well done teams!!

20.01.2022 One Positive from Covid Lockdown - It’s sometimes hard to find a positive from this crazy year that we’ve had. But for me and those that regularly use our MDDT grounds, it has been the chance to do some much needed ground maintenance. No matter the weather or even a Pandemic - the grass keeps growing and needs to be maintained! My paddocks were once a prickle infested, dust bowl when we started in 2004. Every bit of grass has had to be hand planted encouraged to choke out t...hose prickles and settle the dust for our doggos to be able to work at training. The last area to be planted has been the carpark servicing the front training paddocks. During Covid lockdown we had a chance to plant more runners and fertilise and apply lots of water. I must say that it has helped alleviate the dust problem a lot. The two photos are taken this week to show the improvement and hopefully by this time next year it may even be totally covered from little things - big things grow.

19.01.2022 Stunning Babies!! - We are very pleased to introduce our most recent class of graduating Puppy Schoolers. They are a varied cross section of medium to large breed dogs. No matter how many thousands (Yes thousands!!) of puppies I have been involved with over the years of running puppy schools - I never tire of seeing these babies start to blossom during the time that they are with us. It’s a job that I never get tired of and hopefully never will. ... A big thank you must go to the dedicated owners who come to training every week to endeavour to give their pups the best possible start in life. Also not forgetting my amazing team of wranglers - I’d be lost without you.

19.01.2022 Bronze Public Outing - Yesterday was week 4 of our 5 week Bronze Level of training. It’s the week that we take our teams out on the road so to speak! Many of the dogs have done earlier levels of training and myself and the other MDDT trainers, hope that what we are teaching our teams of dogs and owners gets practiced on a regular basis well before we launch them in public. The only way to test this is to go out into the community (with all of the real life distractions) a...nd see how our dogs and owners cope. Ideally we want a walk where the dogs encounter lots of novel distractions and then see how their owners deal with it. We find that the best place is our beautiful riverfront district. There are always other dogs, kids on bikes, scooters etc, people of varying ethnicities, bird life, traffic etc etc. If we have reactive dogs in our groups then the lessons that we have been endeavouring to teach are automatically put into practice and we can see if they are making progress. This outing is kept low key and well managed but out in the open spaces with plenty of room to give distance if a problem is encountered. It is important for us to work gradually up to the public outing in our following level (Silver) where our teams are taken to a cafe or coffee shop and have to show that they can settle calmly around other dogs and people in a far more pressured environment. Yesterday was a very hot day and I thank everyone for attending. We did shorten the walk and there was not quite as much activity at the riverfront as usual. But Im please to say that our teams were great and behaved impeccably. And no one forgot their poop bags!! Well done everyone (14 teams) and a big thank you to the MDDT team of trainers. Cheers Bron Welsh

16.01.2022 Puppy Graduates - Last Sunday saw another pack of little puppy pre schoolers (pups 8 to 16 weeks of age) complete their first course of life lessons. The photos show some having fun working on our puppy equipment while the other pictures are some doing our Egg and Spoon game. Which I might add is harder than it looks. The aim is to teach the pups to walk on a loose leash with no pulling. The handlers have to have the egg and spoon held in the same hand as the leash holding the puppy. Well it doesn’t take a lot of imagination to guess what can go wrong - but it’s all a bit of fun to prove the importance of early loose leash training.

15.01.2022 Parvo History - For any of our many owners who are interested in learning more about the dreaded disease Parvo then this short 20 min video clip is worth watching. We at MDDT are proud to be supporting Dr Mark Kelman and his amazing push to make Parvo history!. You can get to see and hear Dr Mark in this clip and also learn about Parvo. It was a talk he did for the Veterinarians of Australia at a recent conference. I dearly hope that our local Mildura Vet Clinics are supp...orting Marks work by reporting all cases of Parvo acquired locally in Sunraysia. He’s not asking a lot to simply have his colleagues become a part of the reporting chain around Australia so that valuable research can be done. We owners can help by once again stepping up and buying his great fundraising treats available here at MDDT. Regards Bron and the Team

11.01.2022 Grads, Grads and more Grads! - We have had such a busy resumption of classes since restrictions have been lifted. MDDT has just completed 10 (8 dogs in each) Beginner classes with these lovely dogs winding up our year. The photos were taken on their Graduation evening. A big congrats goes to all involved. It takes commitment on behalf of the owners to come home from work and busy days and then have to present at training in the evening. So well done everyone.... The progress can be seen in their lovely loose leash walking by some as well as the fun games played on the last night.

09.01.2022 Thanks Trudie for finding this again for me to share. It is truly poetry in motion to watch this amazing young woman work her dogs. NO screaming, yelling or abuse - just clear, calm, consistent commands. She is a true ambassador for positive training

09.01.2022 Introducing our Manners Enforcer - It is some months since I lost my lovely old Greyhound (Annie) to bone cancer. She had been my sidekick for many years when dealing with anxious, aggressive or young bad mannered dogs. I have been missing her calm, placid assistance. However, one door closes and another one opens. As I have mentioned before- we are rearing a crazy pair of young Greyhound pups Bonny and Heartley - they are now about 7 months of age and just lollopi...ng larrikins and quite a handful. So after many worrying moments I decided to start using Delta one of our nearly 5 year old female Greyhounds. She is what we call our enforcer as she clearly believes that it’s her job to rule the old dog’s ruthlessly. Husband has nicknamed her the black and white land shark as she cruises around maintaining control of her environment and every other dog in it. She absolutely surprised me with how well she handled her first engagement with our terrible twosome! In the video you’ll see her rousing them when needs be (usually when they are in her personal space and being particularly rude). She doesn’t attack them physically, just verbally gives lots of warnings. She was wearing a muzzle in the clip just in case she was going to react too aggressively. When Del tries to ignore them and moves to the verandah, you’ll see things get a little tense, then Bonny (the young female) does a big shake off which is a good sign that she got the message from the old girl and proceeds to move off from the situation. So when owners with young pups ask me should they punish there older dog’s for growling at new young pups I usually advise not to as the older dogs are helping discipline the youngsters and help teach them some manners and courtesy. Imagine this pair of tearaways having no boundaries being set from the older dogs.

08.01.2022 Welcome Back Marika - It was great to have one of our trainers return to training with the latest Beginner level after having most of this crazy year off on Maternity leave. Marika has a sweet little daughter (Quinn) so warmest congrats to you and Braedon. Picture are Marika and Sabrina (Puppy Wrangler) with one of their charges Nala the Groodle.

07.01.2022 Sunday’s Puppy Graduates - This most recent group of pups have been an absolute delight to work with! I’m not sure if it’s because they were a group of mostly small breed dogs that many breedist people refer to as little yappers. Which of course they can be without early training. They are very alert breeds but so so trainable and a load of fun!... Just look at the pics and you can just see the loads of personality. Many are going to give their owners a real roller coaster ride but will be worth every bit of time that their owners can put in. Also a big congrats to the great group of kids (two legged kind) that attended. They were all so well mannered and behaved. A credit to their handlers (oops I mean parents). Cheers Bron and Team
