17.01.2022 #throwbackthursday . Way back in winter of 2017 I visited Agness and Anthony on their farm in Bocoble. I’d never been in a wool shed before and probably not been on many farms either. . They had invited me out and to stay over so we could have a chat about wool. No arm twisting needed there. ... . During that visit we decided to have a go a getting a bale of their greasy wool turned into yarn. . They care for the sheep that grow the wool, I do the dyeing and we split the cost of processing. 06.01.2022 From the High Steaks Farm Diary 26th March 2014 #throwbackthursday . Yanga Station was a 200,000 acre sheep grazing property, originally owned by William Wentworth, (of Blaxland, Lawson and Wentworth fame) and once ran 80 000 sheep, primarily Merinos for wool production. The park is full of birds and there’s beautiful spots for fishing on the Murrumbidgee River (although we only managed to catch Carp.) . But the highlight for us was that the woolshed is still standing and you... can wander around it to your hearts’s content. We’re quite proud of our little woolshed, with it’s 2 stands and room to house 200 woolly sheep. The Yanga woolshed has 30 stands and can house 3000 sheep. Apparently, up to 100 people would be staying at the station during shearing time; including shearers, roustabouts, wool classers and cooks, which went for about 2-3 weeks each year. They even had their own jetty to load the wool bales onto the paddle steamers to send it to market. It was pretty cool to walk around and imagine what it would have like with that many people and sheep all working flat out. .
