25.01.2022 Rain Sticks - What are they and how do you make them? Today’s STEM project we attempted to build slightly less traditional rain sticks of our own. In an effort to support child led inquiry today our Prep class created their very own Rain Sticks, using recycled materials collected in our Milestones Pitt Town Reduce, Reuse & Recycle area. The experience allowed the group to use a range of skills such as inquiry, experimentation and researching to form the rain stick, they w...ere able to manipulate objects and explore concepts in trail and error. The end result was brilliant and a very useful resource for the children. The rain stick provided sensory input with music and sound being the main point of stimuli that can allow children engage in the activity. Manoeuvring the rainstick was also beneficial for our children development in ROM (Range of Motion) in their upper extremities.

Art encourages a child to experiment with different materials and invent new methods and techniques to achieve a certain outcome. 15.01.2022 Garden Warriors! As Educators we seize the moment to integrate learning in a fun and engaging way! At our centre we are lucky enough to have large open natural spaces that promote learning opportunities. Today the children were introduced to the season cycle and the reason why leaves fall from trees. The children were presented to the concept and process of deciduous trees and how they lose their leaves in response to the seasons. After tossing leaves through the air (pure ...joy) they got to work and assisted in a playground tidy up which scaffolds their foundational social and emotional skills using three key ingredients; modeling the skill, giving clues and asking questions while the children are trying out a new skills. Our children were able to confidently explore and engage with social and physical environments through relationships and play, with the facilitation from their knowledgeable others as they investigate new ideas through play experiences, becoming socially responsible and show respect for the environment!!

14.01.2022 Community Spirit Our centre bus today had a flat tyre, as much as the situation was inconvenience on all levels, it really highlighted the BEAUTIFUL Milestones community we have here at Pitt Town. From family members going out of their way to make sure I was safe, lending a helping hand and bringing me water whilst we waited for the NRMA. ... A special mentioned to the Mills family for the company and the water and to the Meek family for going above and beyond driving back and forth to get tools to lend a helping hand. Nelle has been apart of the Milestones Family for over 12 years and has been such a beautiful, devoted and caring Teacher and friend. 09.01.2022 NAIDOC 2020 This year the NAIDOC 2020 theme - Always Was, Always Will Be. - recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. Big heartfelt respect to our Elders- past, present & future ... To explore this topic further, we decided to share some dreamlike stories. One of the stories was the rainbow serpent. Dreamtime stories tell how the Rainbow Serpent came from beneath the ground and created huge ridges, mountains and gorges as it pushed upward. The name also reflects the snake-like meandering of water across a landscape and the colour spectrum sometimes caused by sunlight hitting the water. To extend on this significant story, the educators set up a collaborative art activity where the children used colours symbolic to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people, to create our own rainbow serpent.

08.01.2022 NSW Health is calling on people in the Rouse Hill area to get tested if they have even the mildest COVID-19 symptoms after the state’s sewage surveillance progr...am detected traces of the virus in the area. The catchment takes sewage from approximately 120,000 people. Fragments of the virus that causes COVID-19 have been detected in samples taken on Thursday 5 November from the sewerage system that drains parts of Quakers Hill, Castle Hill, Annangrove, Kellyville, Box Hill, Kenthurst, Glenhaven, The Ponds, Rouse Hill, North Kellyville, Kellyville Ridge, Beaumont Hills, Stanhope Gardens, Baulkham Hills, Glenwood, Bella Vista, Parklea, Acacia Gardens and Norwest. The positive sewage result can be due to shedding of the virus by someone who may have previously had the illness, with the virus ‘shedding’ through their system for up to six to eight weeks later. NSW Health continues to remind the community to be vigilant for symptoms and come forward for testing. Symptoms like a runny nose or scratchy throat, cough, tiredness, fever or loss of taste or smell can all signal COVID-19. After COVID-19 testing, you must remain isolated until a negative result is received. Sewage testing for molecular markers of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, started in July, adding another tool in the fight against the global pandemic.
