03.01.2022 ASIC scam email alert We've recently been contacted by a client concerned about an email they received claiming to be from ASIC. This is a scam email making the rounds. The scam email contains an unauthorised link to a renewal letter or ASIC 'message'. The email is titled 'Renewal' or 'message' and informs customers that they need to renew their registration or click on links to retrieve message. The letters have not been issued by ASIC. If you receive these fraudulent emails..., please delete it. Do not click on the link in the emails. Here's how to tell the difference between an ASIC email and the scam email: 1. The scam email refers to a company 2. The scam email does not contain Dear XXXX 3. The URL displayed when you hover over the Renewal Link is also not an ASIC URL. First question you should ask yourself with any emails you receive is how they would have your email address. Would this information generally come through your accountant instead of directly to you? Other email scams doing the rounds are posing as Australia Post and the Australian Taxation office. If unsure do not click links. Always best to make contact with the company directly if you are expecting some information via email from them, just to be sure if they did infact send you information via email. Delete suspicious emails and remove from your Trash folder as well. Please see the following links with more information about the scams.
