25.01.2022 Look familiar to anyone else? As a mama of three myself, I can safely say that feeding baby #1 is a tad different to feeding #3 Nowhere near as many lazy, milky couch bound afternoons and evenings BUT a lot more confidence, especially to feed anytime and anywhere ... www.milkbarbreastpumps.com.au #milkbarbreastpumps @postpartumfitness_melb
23.01.2022 Shout out to all the natural term breastfeeding mamas! How old is your nursling?? I am currently feeding my three year old twice a day. We are on the road to weaning but man oh man she loves her boobie and it's a sloooow progression. Did you know that breastfeeding beyond one has a whole host of health benefits for mama and bub?... Breastmilk still provides a substantial amount of calories, protein, calcium, folate and vitamins, is a great immune system builder and can reduce the risk of breast and ovarian cancer for mum. For more information on establishing breastfeeding and feeding beyond babyhood, visit www.milkbarbreastpumps.com.au #milkbarbreastpumps - @aloha.nutrition

17.01.2022 Why Gen 3?? We get asked about the Haakaa Gen 3 by lots of mamas interested to know if it will suit their needs better than the Gen 2. While both pumps work in the same way, the Gen 3 is designed to grow with your bubs needs, age and stage.... With a quick twist of the top, you can swap out your Gen. 3 breast pump flange for any of our range of optional interchangeable attachments (each sold separately) or you can buy as a set. From pump to baby bottle, or sippy bottle to storage container... or even a spoon feeding dispenser, our Gen. 3 range transforms to suit your baby. 17.01.2022 Whether you breastfeed, express or use a combination of both, your breasts are the main source of nutrition for your baby during the first 12 months and beyond. And sometimes, they can cop a bit of a beating If your nipples are red, sore and tender, there are a few things you can do to help heal them quickly. 17.01.2022 Ahhh sleep. One of the most hotly debated topics of new parents everywhere. Adjusting to broken sleep can be TOUGH, especially when you're learning to breastfeed! I remember the early weeks with all my babies, groggily waking up, switching on the light, having to set up all my pillows to get comfy... It was a mission! The good news? It gets easier! Once you've got the hang of breastfeeding, you'll be able to latch baby on in the dark with your eyes closed. The game chan...ger for me was learning to breastfed lying down. That way, I barely had to move during the night feeds. What about you? Any top tips or tricks for surviving the early weeks and months of broken sleep (apart from #allthecoffee)? 17.01.2022 The very first latch What do you remember about your very first breastfeed? With my first, I was a bit stunned, confused and had no clue. With my second and third, I (thankfully) had a better idea what I was doing! All were beautiful moments that are etched in my memory forever ... www.milkbarbreastpumps.com.au #milkbarbreastpumps @evarosebirth
16.01.2022 Breastmilk is amazing! The composition of your milk actually changes as the day progresses with day milk actually differing to night milk! You might notice as the day progresses that your milk looks different and this is why! Your body knows EXACTLY what your baby needs at each feed then goes about making it! How does this impact pumping? If you're a pumping mama, it can be a good idea to write the time you pumped your milk on your storage bag/bottle. That way, you can match... up the times when you need to give bub their bottle (though don't panic if you haven't/can't always do this, it's very much an 'in an ideal world' scenario!) 13.01.2022 The struggle is real who’s been there? There is nothing worse than sitting down to feed and realising you don’t have your phone/water bottle/book/pillow/Haakaa! 12.01.2022 Worried about your milk supply? You're not alone! Fears about milk supply, primarily not making enough of the good stuff, are one of the primary reasons that women stop breastfeeding. 11.01.2022 The whole gang You might not be aware that our current best selling Haakaa is actually the second generation of Haakaa Silicone Breast Pumps. It differs slightly to the Gen 1 in size and the bottom of the pump which suctions on for less chance of spillage. We also stock the Gen 3 which has a variety of interchangeable tops that grow and evolve with your baby. The newest member of the gang is the Haakaa Silicone Milk Collector and it differs slightly to its cousins as it’s more of a passive milk collection method thank the pumps. For more info and to shop visit www.milkbarbreastpumps.com.au
11.01.2022 BACK IN STOCK Haakaa Gen 2, the OG silicone breast pump is back in stock and online now We often get asked how best to incorporate Haakaa into everyday breastfeeding. Here are a few different feeding positions other mamas use to make it work! ... Just remember, as your bub grows you may find the ‘go to position’ changes (and once toddlerhood hits, hello mama the climbing gym)! 09.01.2022 SEE YA blocked duct The Haakaa getting the job done, busting blockages and clogs. If you're suffering from blocked ducts or nipple blebs and haven't tried the Haakaa + epsom salts hack then now might be the time!... All you need is your Haakaa, some epsom salts and warm water. Here's how to do it: Fill your Haakaa with enough warm water to make contact with your nipple. Make sure that the water is warm but not scalding hot as you don't want to burn yourself. Add one or two tablespoons of Epsom Salts. Attach your Haakaa to the blocked breast and allow the combination of heat, the salts and suction to help remove the clog. Keep the pump attached for between 10-15 minutes. You may need to repeat several times for large and/or stubborn clogs. Need more help? 07.01.2022 Breastfeeding might BE completely natural but that doesn't always mean that it COMES naturally. For some (many!) women, it can be REALLY HARD WORK. For days/weeks/even months. With my first baby, I remember thinking that it would never, ever be easy. It got better, eventually. But it took a lot of time, patience, TEARS and support. Breastfeeding may not happen overnight and that’s ok. Surround yourself with women who get it, seek support, ask questions and ask for help. We w...ere never meant to do this alone! Did breastfeeding come naturally for you or was it a bit of a battle? www.milkbarbreastpumps.com.au #milkbarbreastpumps @adriennehedger / @bfmamatalk
07.01.2022 Remember mama, your baby breastfeeds for a WHOLE heap of different reasons, not just hunger. Just like we reach for a hot cup of tea (or, ahem, something stronger ) to soothe, calm and restore us, breastfed babies reach for the boob. It's their happy place. Relentless boob domination can be exhausting and we totally get that. If you know your bub is heading into a period of cluster feeding you can try and prepare in advance but if that's not doable, we recommend: babyweari...ng filling up your water bottle, parking yourself somewhere comfy and binge watching something while you surrender to the boob fiend (if you've got a toddler this can be tricky but hey, ABCkids was invented for a reason) calling in back up. Be it a partner, friend, grandparent, neighbour, anyone who can hold the baby while you have a wee and/or a shower in peace riding the wave, feeling the feels and reminding yourself that this won't be forever. Tough, we know. But sometimes, having a cry or a moan, eating some chocolate and a switch in mindset can really help. And I promise you, my former cluster feeding, boob obsessed babies are now 3,7,9 and no longer log hours attached to my nipples. This too shall pass. How do you cope when your baby or toddler JUST WANTS TO FEED? More resources and advice at www.milkbarbreastpumps.com.au #milkbarbreastpumps @marissathemilkmom
05.01.2022 Ever heard of power pumping and wondered why you'd need to do it? We've got you mama! Power pumping mimics a baby that is cluster feeding and going through a growth spurt. This increased 'need to feed' stimulates your supply, helping you create more milk as the more milk you remove, the more milk your body will make.... Mamas may need to power pump for a variety of reasons and there are various different ways to do it. What's important is finding a method that works for you and that you can stick to for 2-3 days at a time. For more info, check out our blog post (link in bio) or at www.milkbarbreastpumps.com.au #milkbarbreastpumps
04.01.2022 One mama, two different colours of milk! Your breastmilk is a living substance meaning that it's constantly changing and adapting to the needs of your baby. That's why you may notice a change in colour and/or consistency when bubba is sick/teething/going through a growth spurt. Research has actually found that when your little one is sick, they send a signal through their saliva to your body to produce milk with antibodies specific to the illness they are fighting! Ho...w amazing is that? For more breastfeeding resources, tips and advice visit www.milkbarbreastpumps.com.au #milkbarbreastpumps @mommy.labornurse See more
04.01.2022 Have you ever noticed your nipple turning white? Persistent discomfort or pain despite baby appearing to latch well and no evidence of other damage (i.e. blisters etc)? You may have a vasospasm.... This from @latchedla: A nipple vasospasm happens when the muscles spasm & blood flow to the nipple is limited. The nipple tip turns white then bright red & there can also be a sharp, burning pain. Symptoms Nipple tip turns white then bright red Sharp, burning pain Symptoms can happen after unlatching, pumping, & when exposed to cold Causes Nipple compression (maybe from shallow latch, tongue tie, or clamping to slow flow of milk) Exposure to cold Raynaud's phenomenon (a condition that causes spasms in the extremetries) . Treatment Work with an LC to address latch Cover your nipples right after nursing/pumping & apply warmth (a heating pad, a microwaved sock filled with rice Squeeze the base of your nipple (this will stop the vasospasm) Massage your chest & nipple after nursing Limit caffeine & nicotine Supplement with B6, calcium, & magnesium . Have you dealt with vasospasms before? @emmbuns + @latchedla
03.01.2022 All that stuff you wanted to know about sex after a baby as a breastfeeding mama! Yes, it may be different and yes, your breastfeeding boobs may not behave themselves but remember, that is TOTALLY NORMAL. This from @aloha.nutrition:... Sex might make your breasts leak thanks to oxytocin - the milk ejection reflex, which is obviously "triggered" during sex, which might make your breasts leak. I recommend feeding your baby or pump beforehand You'll want to lube up...thanks to low estrogen levels, it will feel very dry down there, so lube will be your best friend You might experience low libido, because your sexual hormones are suppressed. You might also feel touched out with a baby and now your partner...so be vocal and express how you feel You might need to do some psychologic and physiologic priming before sex and obviously communicate with your partner. For more information and resources on breastfeeding and #mumlife, visit www.milkbarbreastpumps.com.au #milkbarbreastpumps - @aloha.nutrition
03.01.2022 THE FLIPPLE! If you’re trying to get a deeper latch (because we all know that it’s #allaboutdatlatch) then the flipple is for you. This technique is specifically designed to help bubba get a nice big mouthful of boob which means a comfortable feed for mama (no Nipple pain or trauma) and good milk transfer, leaving everyone happy!... 02.01.2022 We these words from @misskyreeloves on her third experience of new motherhood... This is real mumlife in the fourth trimester. I feel like a walking zombie personal milk bar. We’ve had a little trouble this time around. Denver is VERY sleepy and struggles to have a decent feed before he zonks out. I’ve been using the Haakaa from @milkbarbreastpumps to collect my letdown of the opposite side, which has been helping. I’ve been storing ... the milk in the Junobie reusable Breastmilk Bags. Lots of you highly recommend this to help avoid mastitis. And don’t forget, Kyree’s code is still active. Use code kyree15 for 15% off store wide. www.milkbarbreastpumps.com.au #milkbarbreastpumps
01.01.2022 COLLECTING COLOSTRUM We get asked A LOT of questions about how to (and why you should) collect colostrum in the lead up to birth. To answer them all, we've pulled them together in a blog post which explains exactly HOW to express colostrum, WHY you might want to do it, and even links to the stuff you'll need to store it (itty, bitty sterile syringes if you were wondering!)... 01.01.2022 Ah the early days! What's your most vivid memory or learning to breastfeed? I have a few but with my first, i'll never forget spending HOURS learning about and researching latching techniques. My son had an (undiagnosed) tongue and lip tie and my nipples were SHREDDED. I was convinced that if I could just find the magic latch on technique, we'd be saved. It didn't quite work that way unfortunately but I learnt a HELL OF A LOT about latching!
