02.01.2022 VicRoads: From 1 July 2017 a new road rule has been introduced to improve safety for our emergency and enforcement workers. You must slow down to a speed that would enable you to stop safely when approaching and passing enforcement, emergency or escort vehicles that are stationary or moving slowly (less than 10km/h)*, and have either: - Red and blue flashing lights - Purple flashing lights (Transport Safety Services) - An alarm sounding. Incidents on our roads place firs...t responders and others involved at a high risk of being struck by passing vehicles or debris. Near misses are common. A recent survey of more than 1,600 emergency service and enforcement workers revealed that in the past three years: - 17% had a ‘near miss’ involving a passing vehicle on four or more occasions - 3% had been injured while evading a passing vehicle - 8% had their vehicle struck by a passing vehicle - 23% of those involved in an incident had consequential mental health issues. The new rule means improved safety for emergency and enforcement workers who are performing work on the road or roadside, as well as others who are present at the scene. 40km/h is the maximum speed at which pedestrians are likely to survive vehicle impact. Does the new rule apply on all road types? Yes, it applies to all roads, including freeways. Insurance companies have been taking advantage of their customers and depriving them of their legal rights, not to mention too many times putting cars back on the road that just should be written off. All in the name of profits in place of protecting families safety. The governing body have stepped in and issued all insurers a strict warning. They do not own your vehicle or property. They cannot offe...r you no choice of repairer. Every policy in Australia is entitled to choice of repairer as per the insurance act. Insurers hold a licence via the government and have to operate within the insures act and newly legislated Code of conduct. Due to the overwhelming amount of complaints the VACC and governing bodies have issued the insurers and won 100% of all compliant cases. Most recently the federal court has passed legislation and created a new form alongside the VACC giving you the right to have your vehicle repaired by your choice of repairer. This is the beginning of the end of insurance companies miss representing their clients and their obligation. In the case of an accident call your choice of repairer for the best help and care.
