25.01.2022 Spring is almost upon us! Spring cleaning is finished, and we'll be open for visitors on Sunday 1st September 2pm! Why not bring Dad up for a stroll through the past after his Father's Day lunch?

25.01.2022 We are very fortunate to have the Port Lincoln Garden Club look after our garden at Mill Cottage. We are closed for the winter but a walk through the garden and lunch in Flinders Park is still a lovey way to spend the day.

24.01.2022 May you enjoy Easter with family and friends!

24.01.2022 Were excited! Mill Cottage is opening its doors for History Festival. Come and inspect the structure of one of Port Lincolns earliest homes, in a wander through tour. Experience its past and present use, and enjoy a chat about history with members of the Port Lincoln History Group. Sunday 28th April 1pm - 4pm Gold coin donation

24.01.2022 When away travelling in other historic places, its always good to check out how other special sites compare! Today visited Runnymede, National Trust home in New Town, Hobart. c1840, and a little more luxurious than Mill Cottage, but a guided tour like ours, and a number of items of similarity. I think were punching above our weight!!

23.01.2022 Giving our guides a little Christmas break - Closed now from 23 December, opening again on 6 January 2019, with the exception of 31st December when the "Maasdam" is in port and we will be open to ALL visitors from 10 am - 3pm.

23.01.2022 Christmas approaching, a season of good cheer, so what did I find in our archived music but a song called "Jealous", from a Fairy Christmas Pantomime "Cinderella" 1924! Not quite the right sentiment for the season!

20.01.2022 Christmas greetings to all our friends, and a big "Thank you" to all our special volunteers and helpers! Have an enjoyable break. Well be closed Sunday 22nd Dec , reopening Sunday 5th January.

20.01.2022 Mill Cottage has some of Dr. Kinmonts memorabilia in its studio. Open Sundays 2-4, Wednesdays 10-2.

19.01.2022 Glad to say our lovely old cottage is bearing up well under the heat of summer - nothing our pioneers wouldnt have felt before! Glad we dont have to cook in the kitchen any more, though we could have fried eggs on the roof last Thursday 48.3 C....

18.01.2022 Great news!! We are re-opening on Sunday 4 October 2pm - 4pm. Come and check out the behind-the-scenes things we've been up to.

18.01.2022 The first of our Christmas greetings from Mill Cottage has a distinctly summer theme!

18.01.2022 So sad. We're closed again. Wishing all our volunteers and friends a safe and productive lockdown period. Look forward to seeing you all again when we get this thing under control.

18.01.2022 First cruise boat for the season picked a warm and windy day to visit Port Lincoln! Our guides Kevin, Rae, Jackie and Chris welcomed 33 visitors, and Ashley, our guide in character, did a great job of encouraging visitors to visit. Great work everyone!!

16.01.2022 This weeks Christmas greeting with a touch of poetry - Wishing you all "Peace and Calm Delights"!

16.01.2022 Remembering Mill Cottages special connection on Remembrance Day - Geoffrey Bishop, son of Joseph and Ethela died in France in 1917.

16.01.2022 Some visitors take different pleasure from a visit to Mill Cottage!

15.01.2022 Thats it for now folks! Closed down for our winter break. Re-opening on Fathers Day, 1st September. Still feel free to contact us by Messenger. The History Group will still be open (come around the side) on Wednesdays!

13.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Jo Utting, after a long illness. A very special lady with a love of history and a dedicated guide at Mill Cottage. Rest in peace Jo.

13.01.2022 Remembering Mill Cottage's own resident who made the supreme sacrifice for his country on 21 November 1917. Geoffrey Bishop, whose1916 enlistment papers list him as a farmer, died of pneumonia in France while serving as a driver in 107th Howitzer Battery, A.F.A.. He is buried in Trois Arbres Military Cemetery, Steenwerk, France. Sadly, for his father, even his effects did not return as the ship in which they were being transported sank after being hit by a torpedo.

13.01.2022 Notifying everyone that due to Catastrophic Fire Conditions predicted for tomorrow Mill Cottage Museum will be closed so that our volunteers can be where they are most needed.

12.01.2022 But theres more! On Friday 18th October, 2pm at Mill Cottage we will accept the donation of a painting by Mr F.G.W. Payze of the two cottages that stood in the grounds of Boston House. The painting was presented to Mrs Anna Roe, a later owner of Boston House, by the artist Mr F.G.W. Payze on 13 April 1931. It will join the Boston House painting in a special exhibit. Feel free to join us on the day, or come in soon before the Cruise Boat season starts!!

10.01.2022 What a morning! A visit from a group of local Barngarla people and their visitors, enjoying the story of Mill Cottage and its connection to Poonindie Aboriginal Mission. Lovely to make what we hope will be an enduring connection. But theres more ... another 10 visitors also popped in, and were not a very big cottage! Well done to Rae, Jackie and new guide Peg who kept them all moving through and thoroughly enjoying the experience.

10.01.2022 Spring is almost upon us! Spring cleaning is finished, and well be open for visitors on Sunday 1st September 2pm! Why not bring Dad up for a stroll through the past after his Fathers Day lunch?

09.01.2022 This International Volunteers day a big Thank you to all the volunteers, at the History Trust and around South Australia, that help keep our history alive.

07.01.2022 Christmas greetings! To the Bishop family descendants for their support and encouragement, to our volunteers and supporters for your time and enthusiasm, and to our visitors and followers, a safe and happy Christmas season from Mill Cottage!

06.01.2022 Wonder how many downpours of 44 mml in an hour Mill Cottage has experienced in 154 years? The old girl took it in her stride, just a little water under the store room door and a bit of sweeping outside to make it welcoming for visitors when we open again on Sunday!

06.01.2022 Mill Cottage regrets that due to care for our volunteers in the confines of our cosy cottage, we are starting our winter closure effective immediately. So, if you havent been to see us recently, save your visit until we notify that we are open again!

04.01.2022 Two cruise boats in, and our own special spruiker on the foreshore brought a record 45 visitors to the cottage today! Well done Ashley, youre a natural!! Great work guides Chris, Judy, Betty and Jackie. The comments in the guest book tell the story of how much visitors enjoyed the experience!

04.01.2022 BOSTON HOUSE Painting Mill Cottage Museum has recently received the donation of an 1896 Amy Bishop oil painting of Boston House, one of Port Lincolns iconic homes. The home was built by John Dorward, for Frederick Sison who retired from brewing in Adelaide to live in Port Lincoln. The site had previously been that of Boston Cottage, the home of Rev. Octavius Hammond, (Amys grandfather). Sadly, Mr Sison did not live long to enjoy his home and to see his vine plantings come ...to fruit. His wife Lucy later remarried but was widowed again shortly afterwards. The Sisons had no children and Boston House has since had many owners, and a multitude of purposes. The donor, Peter Wescombe, had the painting handed down through his family, and decided to donate it back to its hometown and artists home. Peters grandmother, Lucy Ann Bartlett, was Lucy Sisons niece, and often stayed at Boston House during holidays. When Mrs Sison (later Mrs Oswald) died, without children, the painting came to Mrs Wescombe nee Bartlett, and has been handed down through the family. We are very grateful to have received this significant piece which now forms part of a new Boston House exhibit in Amys studio at Mill Cottage. See more

01.01.2022 On Remembrance Day, we particularly remember Geoffrey Howard Bishop, died 21 November 1917, in France. Buried Trois Arbres Military Cemetery, Steenwerck, France.
