25.01.2022 Today, across Australia, school cleaners will be recognised and celebrated for the incredible work they have done to keep our schools safe and clean throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We would like to thank Julie and Deirdre for the incredible work they have done to keep Millen safe and clean. We would also like to thank Sophie, Oliver, Charlotte and Friederike for their work this term keeping the school safe and clean.... We are extremely lucky at Millen to have you all and we do appreciate everything that you do at our school. Enjoy your special day of thanks.

23.01.2022 How exciting! The construction of our new administration building has started today. Please remember that this will impact parking at the school.... There will be no access through the office for students or parents before or after school Parents dropping off and collecting children for appointments during the school day will have pedestrian access only to the office via the entry on Playfield Street (strictly no parking on the oval or staff car park) or via the driveway on Pinedale Street The school driveway on Etwell Street will need to be kept clear of vehicles throughout the school day. We will keep you updated on the progress of the building.

To all teachers, I really appreciate that you have been uploading educational activity tasks on connect and teaching your class at the same time. It must have been really hard and I am sure you that every single teacher has neatly managed to balance this act, not just for a day but for 3 weeks with consistent enthusiasm. This is amazing and I think that every teacher should receive a certificate for educating online as well as in the classroom simultaneously. I also think that anybody in the entirety of the school's students would say you are the best teachers ever! 14.01.2022 Yesterday, the State Government announced changes to education, based on a review of current arrangements and updated health advice. As of Monday, 18 May 2020 all students are expected to attend school, except for those students medically referred to learn from home. This means students are either:... at school; or have a medical referral to learn from home; or recorded as absent if they do not attend. 10.01.2022 2020 National NAIDOC Poster Announced Tyrown Waigana, a Perth based artist and designer, has been named as this years winner of the prestigious National NAIDOC Poster Competition. His winning entry - Shape of Land - was judged by the National NAIDOC Committee to have best illustrated the 2020 NAIDOC theme: Always Was Always Will Be.... Mr Waigana, a proud Noongar and Saibai Islander, has previously been named as one of WAs best new and emerging Indigenous artists. According to the artist, his winning entry depicts the Rainbow Serpent coming out of the Dreamtime to create this country and how we are strongly connected to it. The Rainbow Serpent is represented by the snake and it forms the shape of Australia, which symbolises how it created our lands. The colour from the Rainbow Serpent is reflected on to the figure to display our connection to the Rainbow Serpent, thus our connection to country. The overlapping colours on the outside is the Dreamtime. The figure inside the shape of Australia is a representation of Indigenous Australians showing that this country - since the dawn of time - always was, and always will be Aboriginal land, Mr Waigana added. Mr Waigana - who has a Bachelor of Arts majoring in graphic design, advertising and illustration and photography - runs his own brand and business Crawlin Crocodile. My passion for art and design comes from an early age and my goal is to make a living of being an artist and take on exciting new creative projects. I love to learn new techniques and platforms I can create on, he said. 07.01.2022 MORE TREES FOR MILLEN . . . Exciting news! Millen has received an Urban Forest Strategy Grant from the Town of Victoria Park which will see us planting 24 new carefully-selected trees on the school grounds this year! Many thanks to Planet Millen member and Millen parent Emma Monk who worked tirelessly on our successful application. We can’t wait to see the trees go in, the students protect and nurture them and all the many wonderful things they will bring over the years to come.
