22.01.2022 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The AGM was held at the Shed on Tuesday, 29th November. Among the members in attendance was Member for MacKillop, Nick McBride MP, who related a couple of tales of other Men's Sheds in the state. Elections were held for five committee positions, with Tony Glowacki replacing Clarrie Squire as President and the incumbents in the other four positions all being returned. Minutes of the AGM and the general meeting that followed it are available for members to review in the Shed office.

22.01.2022 JUNE NEWSLETTER June is but a day away, already. My but the year is flying. To help while away the hours a bit slower, here is our newsletter for June. As of Monday, 1st June, we can have a full compliment back at the Shed, so need to phone ahead from that day on.

20.01.2022 SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER Still working. The men have been busy at the Shed, turning out orders, making their own projects and helping the students in the school group with their projects. Here's the September newsletter with all the details.

18.01.2022 It's been a couple of months since the last Shed newsletter was published, due to the absence of the editor on holidays and firefights. Now, here's the overdue next edition - January 2020. Happy new year to you all.

18.01.2022 COMMUNITY GARDEN WORKING BEE A big thanks to the Millicent and Surrounds Food Network for all their volunteers who turned up on Sunday, 19th January, to help renovate the garden space. Tony's tractor certainly made the job a lot easier, along with many willing hands on shovels and wheelbarrows. A couple more days like that and the garden will be ready for opening. The old shipping container was finally emptied and it will disappear shortly. Once the garden beds have all been ...set-up, we will start building the sheds and covered rest areas. What with that and the coming expansion of the Men's Shed building, it's all go at the community hub this year. Another working bee is being planned for a couple of weeks time, so watch this space for information. The Men's Shed provided lunch for the day and will do for future working bees, so come along to the next working bee and enjoy building a great facility for the town's future. See more

17.01.2022 MAY NEWSLETTER Well, here we are, May already! The weather has closed in and it feels like winter has arrived early. You know it's cold when you don't even feel like going out to your workshop. A warm fire and a bottle of red wine is some comfort on days like this, as is trawling the internet for project ideas and looking for that next tool you just have to get. While you are in splendid homebound condition, here's the latest newsletter for your consumption. We do encourage all members to contribute items for the news. It doesn't have to be only four pages long. The more we get to include, the larger it will be. Any non-members out there who read the newsletter and would like to submit anything for inclusion are welcome to do so - articles of interest or promotions/advertising welcome. Stay safe, stay warm, stay at home.

16.01.2022 It has been a while since we posted a newsletter, so here's the February 2020 edition, albeit a little late coming.

15.01.2022 SHED OPEN AGAIN Due to the early end of the statewide lockdown, the Shed is open again. Members were welcomed back to the Shed today after a brief lock-out.

15.01.2022 CORONA VIRUS EFFECTS The Men's Shed will remain open to provide its essential services to the community at this time when they are needed most. We will be monitoring health and safety practices closely and will not be holding any events until the crisis is over. We do ask that members of our community adopt a level-headed approach during this time and don't behave in any way that might be detrimental to our more vulnerable members. Shop as you would normally so those who can't afford to stock-up with bulk purchases can still get their essential supplies from day-to-day. Panic buying and food hoarding puts the less mobile and the less well off in our society at risk. Don't be selfish, don't act stupidly. Consider others and be sensible.

15.01.2022 NEWS NEWS NEWS For those of you stuck indoors with nothing worthwhile to read, here's some news from the Shed. Don't know if it's worthwhile, but here it is anyway. Now is the time for members to write a contribution or two, send in some photos of what you are up to, to fill-in the time until your next shopping trip. Stay sane and start on that list of projects to get into once this crisis has passed.

12.01.2022 Here is the March 2020 edition of our newsletter.

12.01.2022 CORONAVIRUS UPDATE - SHED CLOSURE Unfortunately, the Millicent Men's Shed has had to close its doors until further notice. The committee had devised protocols to limit members' exposure and to keep the Shed open, but yesterday we received a directive from AMSA stating that we had to close, in accordance with Federal Government directives. During the period of closure, if any member needs support or assistance, please contact the coordinator, Tom, or secretary, Chris.... Tom and Chris will keep an eye on the Shed to ensure it remains secure and maintained. They will also be watering the garden and keeping the crops under control. Stay safe and look after yourselves. Keep in contact with each other and don't be reluctant to ask for help if you need it. See you all on the other side of this.

11.01.2022 ITEMS FOR SALE Our first online sale was achieved yesterday. Thank you to our lovely buyer who picked up the bird feeder. Today we are offering a few more products. 11.01.2022 BUILDING TIMBER NEEDED While we are locked out of the Shed, we have been acquiring materials to continue building the community garden facility. There are a good number of planting beds up and ready, and now we want to build a tool shed and a potting shed. We have iron roofing and wall cladding so far. Now we need timber to build the framework. We are seeking 70 x 35mm pine framing timber (2.1m or longer) to build the frames. If anyone has any lying around that they can spare..., we in the Shed and all of our keen community gardeners would be very grateful. If we can source this material, it will allow more of our precious funds to go towards extending the Shed and further developing the garden space. If anyone can spare some of this timber, please reply in the comments to this post or email to [email protected]

10.01.2022 OCTOBER NEWSLETTER It's been a busy month at the Shed, with many new projects underway and improving weather (sometimes) allowing progress in the community garden. Read all about it in this month's Shed newsletter.

Non-members wishing to visit the Shed are to phone the Co-ordinator before visiting.

08.01.2022 COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS There has been some confusion among several members at the Shed about the state of the restrictions and how they apply in the Shed. While we are still meant to be social distancing when out in public places, at the Shed we are exempt from that rule as we regularly associate with each other at the Shed. Here is the exact wording from the SA Health COVID-19 website: Physical distancing, or social distancing principles apply. Every person should attempt to... stay at least 1.5 metres from other members of the public. However, this does not apply to people who live together, who are friends or family members, or people who regularly associate with each other. Personal hygiene rules still apply - hand washing on arrival at the Shed and non-attendance if showing any cold or flu-like symptoms - and all attendances must be legibly recorded in the attendance book. When arriving at the Shed, please enter through the meeting room and wash your hands before doing anything else. Please do not enter directly through the workshop. Stay healthy and look out for each other.

04.01.2022 ITEMS FOR SALE With no Geltwood Family Fun Day and Market this year, the Shed has missed out on one of its main fundraising events. To make up for this, and the fact that we can't let anyone into the Shed at the moment to see our products, we will post on here details of some of the things we have for sale, with a few new ones every couple of days. Today we are offering a bird feeder, a very popular item, for $35; a large serving tray for $25; and three tea-candle candelabra... at $30 each. If anyone is interested in buying any of these, post a relevant comment or email us at [email protected].

03.01.2022 The garden at the Shed is still looking good, despite the cabbage moths having decimated the cabbages and the rocket and broccoli going to seed. The herb garden is turning into a veritable jungle of herbs. Tom and Chris have been doing regular security checks and some equipment maintenance. The workshop has never been so clean and tidy! If any members would like to assist the MNPS students by finishing their deserted projects at home, let Chris know and he will arrange access... for you to collect them. GROWTH COMPETITION The challenge is out there, proposed by a member, to see who can grow the best beard between now and when we re-open. Want to be in it? Then put those razors away and grab the fertiliser. When we start back, the best growth will be judged and a prize awarded. No stage make-up allowed. All competitors will be checked for super glue and horse hair. For those of you lamenting the lack of a public ANZAC Day service this year, check-out the RSL Millicent facebook page for details of what is happening on the 25th. We are still looking for photos and a few lines about what members are doing during this enforced period at home. Put some on here or send them to the newsletter editor. Let everyone know what you are up to.

02.01.2022 AUGUST NEWSLETTER It's a busy time in the Shed at the moment. New members signing up, lots of private commission work coming in, garden shed construction, ground preparation for the Shed extension and new partnerships starting with other community organisations. Tony Pasin MP visited us yesterday to present a grant cheque from the Federal Government. Plenty of support rolling in at a vital time when we need all the resources we can get our hands on. Read about some of it in t...his month's newsletter. Our men's health article this month is on macular degeneration, an important issue as we age. Come in and visit the Shed, while the virus restrictions still allow it. Hopefully we will all stay safe and healthy. Remember - observe the COVID-19 protocols whenever you are at the Shed (see notices on doors and walls). See more

02.01.2022 SA LOCKDOWN Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions in the state, the Men's Shed will be closed at least until Thursday, 26th November. There may be an extension of a further eight days of movement restrictions imposed, in which case the Shed will not re-open until Thursday, 3rd December. Supermarkets are remaining open during the lockdown and one member of each household is permitted to go out for essential purposes. Stay safe and we will see you back on the other side of this.

01.01.2022 NEWS A new financial year and new challenges arriving on our doorstep every day. Work towards the shed extension is progressing, with ground preparation underway. Many thanks go to Clarrie's neighbour who sent three large lorry loads of dirt our way. We won't need much more to fill the area ready for the concrete floor. While you are sitting at home in the warmth, happy to be in SA and not stuck in Melbourne, here's our latest newsletter to peruse.... Stay healthy, stay warm and we look forward to seeing members and visitors at the Shed.

01.01.2022 DON'T THROW IT OUT, FIX IT The Shed may be in mandatory stand-down at the moment, but as soon as we are open again we will be ready to take on jobs from our community. While you have the time, have a look in your shed/attic/spare room and see if you have any broken items there, like furniture, which you've been meaning to throw out. ... Don't do it - bring them along to the Shed and see if we can repair them. Especially if they are older items, which were probably better quality than their modern equivalent. Join the recycling and preservation generation and keep those things going for the next generation. Let us help you do your bit for the environment and reduce waste. One thing we can throw out though - the word "upgrade" and all it implies in today's throwaway society. See you at the Shed, soon.
