23.01.2022 Favourite Regional Places in SA post # 3 Today we head to Beachport in the south east of SA. It is approximately 385kms from Adelaide and is a beautiful seaside... town. Great for tourists. Great for relaxing. Beachport is home to five State Heritage Places: * The Beachport Jetty - 733 metres in length! * The Mount Graham Homestead - built in 1863 for pastoralist A Johnson. * The former Beachport Customs House - built c.1880 and possibly designed by Colonial Architect Edward J Woods. Constructed of limestone. Customs Office originally used as a check point for goods coming off the jetty by rail. * The Beachport Museum - this was the first meeting place of the Beachport District Council. * The Kangarooo Inn Ruin (just out of the town) Built c.1840s. Hotel built near the original overland track and associated with the drainage operations in the South-East during the 1860s and 1870s. Random rubble stonework. Complex of three buildings and a well. The Beachport Conservation Park is worth a visit - special features include its weathered limestone cliffs and middens - the discarded remains of shellfish left by the Boandik people. The walking trail around Woolley Lake offers panoramic views of the ocean and neighbouring Lake George. Museum, as it has a genuine interest in the tourism potential that this historical icon has for Kingston! A community survey has been developed to gain feedback from the community to help inform the plan. It would be appreciated if you could take the time to complete this short survey so that we can understand what this landmark means to our community, and ways in which it could be improved.
