21.01.2022 Thank you to all our fire fighters, both past and present.

21.01.2022 Happy mothers day to all the mums. And an extra special shout out to our members who are mums, to the wives who keep the house going while our members are out, and to the mums of our members who raised kind and thoughtful people who put their community before themselves.

19.01.2022 Take care if you have to go out. Lock up pets who ate scared of thunder and do not attempt to drive through flooded roads

18.01.2022 Last nights training was practising arrival drills. As a "village brigade" many of our call outs are for structural fires. In the event of a structural fire we need to be able to get water onto the fire as quickly as possible "show water", and also ensure we can keep a supply of water coming eg. Finding a hydrant and shipping a standpipe. We have training the 3rd Tuesday of each month starting at 1830hrs. Anyone over the age of 16 years can join the brigade. If you are thinking of joining or would like to know more join us at training.

18.01.2022 With strong and gusty winds expected tomorrow, coupled with higher temps a total fire ban has ben declared for tomorrow (Sunday 29th Nov), from midnight tonight. 18.01.2022 What’s a Storz fitting ? It’s a fitting used by rural and town fire brigades to connect pumps, hoses, nozzles, hydrants or anything that needs a connection t...o fire fighting equipment. It’s the quickest way to make a connection rather than having to screw a fitting round and round up to ten times, the Storz fitting only requires a quarter of a turn. Any new houses or major extension rurally will usually have to have a Storz fitting attached to concrete or metal tank for fire fighting purposes. Even if your house is old, consider fitting a Storz fitting so your brigade has the capability to get water from your tank for fire fighting purposes. 65mm is the recommended size. See more

17.01.2022 Want to make your home more ember proof? You can now buy stainless steel fire rated screens(from BAL- 12.5 up to BAL-FZ) by placing these in your weep holes in the brickwork. By the way, they will stop the mice getting in through the weep holes, then into your wall cavities as well!

11.01.2022 Here's a sign it's going to be cold this weekend With parts of the state expecting temp's below zero, snow on the alps and summer a distant memory, many of... us will be turning on the heater, lighting the fire and pulling out the blankets. So keep flammables a 'metre from the heater' and most importantly test that smoke alarm. See more

07.01.2022 It's amazing the difference a year can make

07.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

07.01.2022 Tonight at around 2100, Millthorpe brigade was paged to a motor vehicle accident (MVA) on Park Rd. Park Rd is the beautiful main road in Millthorpe, lined with beautiful deciduous trees. However, in autumn the leave drop into the table drain below making it look flush with the surrounding area. This unfortunate driver was not aware of the drain and pulled over to safely check the GPS and ended up stuck in the drain. We managed to pull the truck out and the driver drove away unhurt. This is a very busy stretch of road and we thank the police for attending and helping with traffic control. We also thank all the passing motorists who passed slowly and safely. Just be mindful of fallen leaves and what may lay underneath them.

04.01.2022 This morning the brigade was paged to assist with an animal rescue. Upon arrival, we learned that a 4 month old kitten, Larry, had chased a bird about 2/3 up a large pine tree and was clinging onto a thin branch. As she was too high up for our ladder to reach, we opened up a can of tuna to tempt her down to the lower branches where a brigade member was able to get her. A wet, hungry kitten was then handed over to her grateful mum. Canobolas Zone NSW RFS
