11.01.2022 Today we mark one year since the start of the devastating bushfires which deeply affected Victorian communities across the state. On 21 November, 2019 the first... ‘code red’ fire danger rating in almost a decade was declared in the Mallee and Northern Country, and dry lightning strikes in East Gippsland that started three fires which grew to a widespread bushfire disaster that burned for months. Today we reflect on the devastation and challenges that followed 21 November and the incredible support from all emergency services who came together to aid the communities impacted by the unprecedented fire season. 01.01.2022 Fire restrictions will be lifted for the Glenelg Shire on Monday 20th April 2020 Unfortunately this generally means we get called out for out of control burn-offs which we can do without, especially at the moment. Please Please Please take care and follow the logic below.... Register your burn at 1800 668 511 Check weather forecasts for days after fire is lit Have water nearby DO NOT leave your fire unattended Ensure fire is fully extinguished ie. coals won't blow away in the days following burn-off etc. https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/burning-off
