25.01.2022 COVID-19 COMMUNITY UPDATE The following is from South Gippsland Shire Council CEO, Kerryn Ellis: Sundays announcement that regional Victoria will be returning... to stage three restrictions has been a blow for all of us. Although the news was perhaps not entirely unexpected considering the increasing number of COVID-19 cases across Victoria, the restrictions mean that our movement and our ability to socialise with friends and family will again be limited. This closure will be difficult for many people. Stage three restrictions were hard the first time but this time it is even more important that we work together, that we reach out to others and that we be kind to all. Many in our community are still struggling with the impacts of isolation from the first lockdown and our local businesses are only just in the process of getting back on their feet. They will need our support. The one benefit we have is that we have been through this already, we know we can get through it and we know how we can do better. Here is a summary of some of the changes that will be in place from Thursday: There will be only four reasons to leave your home: necessary goods and services; medical care or compassionate reasons; exercise; work and education if necessary. Exemptions include visiting a person with whom you are in an intimate personal relationship, including inside metropolitan Melbourne. Face coverings are mandatory. You cannot enter metropolitan Melbourne for exercise or recreation. You are unable to have visitors in your home. Meeting in public can be with up to two people or household members only. Social distancing measures apply. Councils customer service centre and offices will remain closed. However, we are still here to support you and customer service is available via telephone, online and email. Councils kerbside waste, recycling and green waste collections will continue as scheduled. Waste transfer stations will remain open as scheduled for the essential disposal of waste only. Residents should consider whether their need to visit a transfer station would be considered essential with regard to the stay at home directions. Outdoor sporting facilities will close except for facilities where public gathering and physical distancing limits can be adhered to and there is no use of shared equipment or communal facilities (except toilets), eg: tennis courts, golf courses. Outdoor sports will only be allowed with one other person, or household members, providing 1.5 metre distance can be maintained, eg: activities such as fishing, golfing, boating, tennis, surfing. Swimming pools and playgrounds will close. Libraries will close. Caring Calls, Tech Talks, Online Chat, home deliveries, online programs and events and other online resources including ebooks, eaudiobooks, emagazines, kids reading and activities will all still be available. More details are available at wgrlc.vic.gov.au Community venues including halls will close other than to host an essential public support service (such as Alcoholics Anonymous), or a wedding or funeral. This covers Memorial Hall and its associated meeting rooms. The immunisation session planned for tomorrow (Wednesday 5 August) at Memorial Hall will proceed. Community Transport and the L2P program will be put on hold. All buildings and facilities managed by Council or through Section 86 Committees will close. This includes SPLASH and many halls and recreation reserves. The outdoor facilities can still be used for casual activities such as walking the dog or having a kick of the footy but planned gatherings are not permitted. However please remember to respect the current social distancing guidelines to keep yourself and those around you safe. Travel within regional Victoria is allowed for work and education (if necessary), necessary goods and services and care or compassionate purposes only. Visitor Information Centres, Coal Creek Community Park and Museum and Council-run caravan parks will remain closed. For more information I would encourage you to view the DHHS website: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus Council will continue to work on ways to assist our community via the COVID-19 Community Support Fund and community feedback is encouraged via our COVID-19 Impact and Recovery Survey which can be found at: https://www.southgippsland.vic.gov.au/covidsurvey It goes without saying, that our community needs to come together right now. Please take the time over the next six weeks to regularly check in on your family, friends, neighbours or any people you think might need a hand in these trying circumstances. Buy local where you can and please stay safe. Together we can get through this.

25.01.2022 Today I was asked about Permitted Worker Scheme, so while I have it up on my screen I thought I would share. Yes it may not be reliant to everyone, however we all have friends and family who may be looking for this information. https://www.justice.vic.gov.au/permitted-worker-scheme

24.01.2022 Sharing: Support for business For those businesses that suffer significant losses or need to close as a result of the current restrictions, support will be provided through the Victorian Governments expanded Business Support Fund where businesses in regional Victoria can apply for a $5,000 grant. The Business Victoria website has also been updated with information on creating a COVID Safe workplace - what employers need to know, including employer obligations information, fa...ct sheets and more. The Business Victoria coronavirus hotline (13 22 15) and DHHS hotline (1800 675 398) are key channels for businesses and the community at this time. https://www.business.vic.gov.au//coronavirus-business-supp

24.01.2022 Day 4 Orange the World. Recognising Respect: Sometimes it’s not until it’s pointed out to us that some of the things we say everyday may have hidden meanings, some of our common expressions excuse disrespectful behavior. Often we just brush it off without realising we are actually contributing to a society accepting of disrespectful behavior towards girls and women. Why not check out this website with The Respect Checklist, The Conversation Guide and other useful resourc...es? https://www.respect.gov.au/resources/recognising-disrespect/ If you or someone you know is experiencing family violence, help is available. If you believe someone is in immediate danger, call Triple Zero (000) and ask for the Police. Safe Steps is Victoria’s 24/7 family violence support service. 15.01.2022 December 10 is Human Rights Day and fittingly the last day of Orange the World - 16 days of activism against gendered violence. This year the COVID-19 crisis has been fuelled by deepening poverty, rising inequalities, structural and entrenched discrimination and other gaps in human rights protection. Only measures to close these gaps and advance human rights can ensure we fully recover and build back a world that is better, more resilient, just, and sustainable. End discrim...ination of any kind: Structural discrimination and racism have fuelled the COVID-19 crisis. Equality and non-discrimination are core requirements for a post-COVID world. Address inequalities: To recover from the crisis, we must also address the inequality pandemic. For that, we need to promote and protect economic, social, and cultural rights. We need a new social contract for a new era. Encourage participation and solidarity: We are all in this together. From individuals to governments, from civil society and grass-roots communities to the private sector, everyone has a role in building a post-COVID world that is better for present and future generations. We need to ensure the voices of the most affected and vulnerable inform the recovery efforts. Promote sustainable development: We need sustainable development for people and planet. Human rights, the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement are the cornerstone of a recovery that leaves no one behind. Eleanor Roosevelt "Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home -- so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world. [...] Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerted citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world." We'd like to share this short video of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet's message to mark Human Rights Day 2020. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nY2NrJLIlk Remember together we can change the story

13.01.2022 I think mental health has been something most of us over the last few months have thought about. Ill put my hand up and say its been a bit of a roller coaster. So I thought I would share a great website by the Australian Government. Its called Head to Health and can help you find the right Australian digital mental health and wellbeing resources, for yourself or for someone you care about. Sam the chatbot is well worth a try. 07.01.2022 While we appreciate that nothing really compares to face-to-face contact, online connection can be valuable in these odd times. Zoom and other online platforms have proven to be a fantastic alternative opening new opportunities to connect with people. Even when Stage 3 restrictions lift not everything will just go back to normal. With social distancing expected to be the new norm for at least a little while longer some organisations and groups are will continue providing services online. 05.01.2022 Were loving some of the wonderful ideas out there at the moment that includes #SnapshotRuralVic! The initiative runs for about 10 weeks and is currently in week 4. Social Media; we all use it to follow the lives of interesting people from all over the world, from celebrities to athletes, the crazy and the crazy talented. Whilst we sit back and watch these peoples everyday lives unfold, we miss seeing the stories behind the people that surround us. #SnapshotRuralVic wants... to experience your story, whether it be through photos, videos, poetry or even a song if you so desire! We want to focus the spotlight on you, so we can share in the highs and lows of rural life and hopefully feel a little less isolated and more connected to your community. Why #SnapshotRuralVic? This campaign is an exciting step in a new direction for the National Centre for Farmer Health as we turn to social media to connect farmers, creators, thinkers and makers from all over the state. While we might be distanced socially, we want to repair these connections using the universal platform of social media. From photos to memes, Tik Toks and haikus, we want you to embrace your creativity and in the hopes of making another person laugh, cry or cringe in solidarity. Your imagination will be rewarded with a weekly prize, with the winner chosen by your peers. https://www.farmerhealth.org.au/snapshotruralvic

01.01.2022 OK I don't know about anyone else but I have been getting SO many scam emails on both my home and work emails. I thought I would share this, because on first glance the first thing you see is a lovely green box with the words From a trusted sender. Which IT IS NOT and it really is a simple textbox that tricks some people. If you look in the red box you will see its actually from a hotmail account which is a good tip off. But be careful some will have made up fancy email... address. I have also had the fantastic one that actually shows up as if I sent it to myself, apparently to prove the successful hack. Again this is a trick with some simple code know how. So just a reminder don't click on any links on emails you're not certain about or are unexpected. Pick up the phone if in doubt and double check. Make sure you don't have the same password for everything, at the very least PLEASE have a special password for your bank account. Make sure your passwords are not obvious, so don't use birth dates etc. AND PLEASE never purchase gift cards as a payment to anyone, if they ask for it in gift cards it's a scam. Gift cards once purchased can't be traced it's basically like giving away cash. A bank payment at least needs to go into an account, but be very careful there too. If your buying online and it sounds to good to be true it most likely is. At least on the customer feedback, and remember some feedback isn't legitimate. Have a wonderful safe Christmas! X Belinda
