06.01.2022 The school year is winding down, so it’s time for a holiday for all. Thanks to all my students who return each week, happy to learn, which makes each lesson a delight for me. 06.01.2022 A child's brain is like a sponge, ready to soak up information. During this time at home parents can help or hinder this sponge. Over my years of teaching my number 1 rule for parents and their child's homework was : Don't EVER, EVER fight/argue over homework; it's not worth the family stress. That dries up the sponge, and causes unnecessary tears and angst in the family.... So, what to do? Stop, breathe, talk with your child, walk together outside and find awe and wonder in every day. That enriches the sponge! If you feel your child MUST do school work every day, negotiate together a minimum plan for each school day- some reading, some writing, some maths, some investigation, some creative- whatever is going to work for you all, and NO consequences if the plan is not completed. 03.01.2022 I can never emphasise this enough, reading is SO important! It doesn't matter what you read, as long as you DO read. Personally I love a good novel, but magazines, newspapers, even online stories will all contribute to becoming a more literate person. Perfect day today to curl up with a book!
