06.01.2022 Some of you will know I live in Burrill Lake. I moved here from London 8 years ago and every day I am appreciative of the natural wonders this lake has to offer. I run, walk, cycle, fish, swim and paddle board around all of it. Without ruin or disregard this pocket of paradise never ceases to please. I also like nothing more than to socialise, listening to local live music and enjoying good food and wine, so when the artist impression of the Edgewater Hotel development was fl...ashed about I was excited to think I could enjoy sunset locally at the lakes edge. However I’ve learnt all is not what it seems. Don’t be fooled. Over the last few days it appears our voice of concern regarding the proposed development of The Edgewater Motel, DA19/2160, is now resonating amongst the wider community. People are now aware of the true size and scale of the development, that they have been utterly mislead by the developers by means of the artist's impression of the development, and of the precedent for future large scale development on the foreshore of Burrill Lake, that this development - if left unchanged - will set. Please remember, our mandate is NOT anti-development. We welcome with open arms an establishment that will provide jobs, increase tourism, be a facility that we can all enjoy and be proud of to have in Burrill Lake. All we are asking is that a huge, imposing building, completely out of context with the existing character of Burrill Lake, is not simply forced upon us by these developers, who will build it and leave with a profit in their pockets, while the long list of consequences are simply left behind for the residents to deal with. Development can be done BETTER. I have been asked by many people what they can do to help, as this fight is far from over. The graphic below lays our strategy out clearly and concisely.
