22.01.2022 Jonah & Felix are littermates, approx 8 weeks old, and available for adoption. They only arrived at their foster home last week, after receiving a clean bill of... health. They are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and wormed & flea-treated, and are undergoing 'kid-proofing' as we speak... Their foster family is in no hurry to see them go, but if either of these lovely boys is what you have been looking for, please give us a call on 0414 749 490, or email [email protected] so that we can arrange for you to meet them. 21.01.2022 Beau was incredibly brave and quite the poser today. He is a gorgeous Italian greyhound pup.

21.01.2022 A very excited Dr Caitlin has been awarded a scholarship to attend a wildlife course in January 2021. So very well deserved, Caitlin works full time and then often sees wildlife on her days off , or ends up caring for cases at home. Her first few months of work saw her thrown head first into the care of wildlife after the tragic fires and her many interviews with international media outlets raised awareness of the plight of south coast wildlife. Caitlin has a special interest in novel tick borne diseases of wildlife and has been working with the DPI to promote research into these diseases. We are very proud of you and so happy you wil be able to benefit from this experience .

20.01.2022 Another update - Cairo has captured the hearts of a family and is now spoken for. Our young mum, Cleopatra, though, seems to be on the lookout for a lap to call... home... It's early days, but it looks like little Cairo is the last man standing.... Preliminary adoption forms have been sent out for our lovely young mum, Cleopatra, her beautiful daughter Sahara, and two of her handsome boys. Adoption can only be guaranteed once the holding deposit is paid... Young mum and 4 lovely, approx 6-week-old kittens. Mum is approx 12 months old and has been named Cleopatra by her foster family. Her babies are Cairo, Houdini, and Tutankhamen (boys), and Sahara (girl). Cleopatra will be desexed once she has recovered from the demands of her hungry brood, and available for adoption. Her kittens will be a little while yet before they can get all the necessary vet treatments and put up for adoption. However, we accept expressions of interest at this point in time. If you wish to register your interest, please call or click. Rehoming Organisation No. R251000223

20.01.2022 Happy World Veterinary Day! Not that people should need a reminder, but unfortunately sometimes it's necessary. Veterinarians have one of the highest rates o...f suicide - up to four-times that of the general population and two-times that of other health professionals. There are many factors contributing to the disproportionate rate of suicide which I researched extensively at doctoral level starting way back in 2009 (which means I've been researching this for a very long time!). Sadly, it's not just our veterinarians who suicide - unfortunately so do other animal workers such as our valued vet nurses, vet students, wildlife workers, and wildlife carers. Unfortunately this is a mental health problem, and requires mental health solutions from, I believe, qualified mental health professionals who - after all - are the experts in mental health! As a psychologist, expert, and leading worldwide authority in veterinary mental health, I personally have worked towards an evidence-based solution which reduced stress, anxiety, and depression, but it takes a long time to implement across-the-board. If everyone did their bit and worked together instead of against each other, we might just stand a better chance of achieving the paradigm shift I started over five years ago! So today, please give thanks to all our veterinary and animal-related workers. That includes those of you in the industry - say thanks to your colleagues, and while you're at it, look at yourself in the mirror and say thanks to yourself! We need you. We appreciate you. We value you. We thank you. #loveyourpetloveyourvet #worldveterinaryday

19.01.2022 There were some very brave vets and nurses today, wrangling a wild diamond python brought in by parks and wildlife rangers. Poor snake had large gash on his side, and Dr Caitlin expertly stitched him up ! Check out the bulge in the snake...luckily he had a fresh rabbit for breakfast!

07.01.2022 We have had a few people contact us about the recent media coverage of Ehrlichia canis in dogs in Australia. Hence, to ease concerns, we thought we would update people on the current situation in Australia. E. canis is a bacterium which is spread by the brown dog tick. The first case of this disease was discovered in dogs located in Western Australia during May 2020. It has since spread to the Northern territory. Most recently E. canis has been detected in ticks located in ...northern South Australia. It is important to note that E.canis cannot be spread directly from dog to dog, but can only be spread by infected ticks. Most recent surveillance of brown dog ticks in Australia have only found a handful of these ticks in NSW (A survey of ticks (Acari: Ixodidae) of companion animals in Australia | Parasites & Vectors | Full Text (biomedcentral.com). Therefore, currently the risk is lower for our dogs in the Shoalhaven. It is also important to note that there have been no cases of locally transmitted Ehrlichiosis in NSW to date. Therefore, currently it is adequate for your dog to be on a routine tick prevention regime alone. It is also important to do routine tick searches of your dog. It may be possible for this disease to migrate to NSW in the future hence, we will keep you updated on any developments. If this occurs, or you plan to travel to other parts of Australia, we advise the use of tick collars as well as routine tick prevention. Ehrlichiosis is a notifiable disease in NSW hence if your dog shows any of the following signs please contact the clinic for advice: Lethargy Enlargement of lymph nodes Weight loss Bleeding from various orifices Ocular or nasal discharge Pale gums Neurological symptoms If you have any questions or concerns about this disease feel free to contact us for advice.
