14.01.2022 I have had a quite a few filmmakers ask when Made In Melbourne will open for 2017 submissions so it is time to make this official. It won't. MIM is going on hiatus. As much as Sarah Jayne and I love running this festival, and are very proud of the heights it has achieved, Sarah and I both need a break after eight years of running MIM and we both have a different focus in 2017. We're currently working on two features, one in post - Friends, Foes & Fireworks - and one in produc...tion - Choir Girl - and we are in development on a third as yet untitled film but with a concept we are very excited about. And from August until almost the end of the year we will be travelling and shooting in Europe and America, leaving no time for the festival. It has been a tough decision to make. We thought about passing the torch to someone else to run this year but managing the festival is a lot of work - every year it becomes a full-time commitment in the latter half of year and the workload increases the bigger the festival gets and the bigger the budget gets leading to bigger costs in turn, reaching a peak last year with significant funding from the City of Melbourne and over 1000 people at the event. But as MIM is a not-for-profit organisation, it is truly a job done out of love - there is no wage to deal with all the work, the pressure, the deadlines, the stress and countless emails and egos. But we're not complaining. We just need a break. We've screened a Best of MIM in Berlin, in the USA, around country Victoria, screened at White Night Melbourne, had moonlight screenings in Docklands, QV Melbourne, played at some of the coolest cinema bars in the CBD as well as some of the most magical venues like the Astor Theater, BMW Edge, ACMI, Capitol Theatre and more. We've met so many fantastic local filmmakers through MIM, seen careers blossom from that quirky little short to Australia-wide cinema releases, had so much support from sponsors who truly care about supporting local film, so much help from dedicated volunteers, so many highlights along the way, thousands of photos, how many controversies?, ups and downs, but lots and lots of fun. It's been a roller coaster. And we're stepping off for 2017 but we don't believe the ride will stop. MIM will return in the future. It just won't be this year. - Festival Director Ivan Malekin

10.01.2022 Massive congrats to Matthew Holmes and everyone else involved in The Legend of Ben Hall, which took out Cinema Australia's Audience Award. Well done too to Cinema Australia for supporting Aussie feature film and filmmakers in general.

09.01.2022 Fun fact ! This time last year festival directors Ivan Malekin and Sarah Jayne were putting on the biggest and longest MIM ever! In 2017 MIM was funded by the City of Melbourne and opened with The Legend of Ben Hall at ACMI, which was a total packed house. ... From there the festival continued to other venues around Melbourne such as The Backlot Studios Melbourne, QV Melbourne and Palace Cinemas Como. Shorts, features, high-school films, music video categories were covered and the MIM team have fond memories of the festival. The highlight for the MIM team each year was always the audience and the filmmakers, the people who support the festival and come together to watch and support indie film. Thanks to all who joined us of MIM since our first night single night in 2009 to the last in 2017 which was a huge success on many levels. Feeling a tad nostalgic today. #supportindiefilm #Melbourne

09.01.2022 Congrats! #mimfilmfest #alllocalallmelbourne

We would not be here without an audience and of course without local filmmakers and our wonderful and generous sponsors and our volunteers a...nd venues. Thank you. Have a safe and fun holiday period and take care of one another as we move into 2017. Hopefully we will see you you next year. Sarah and Ivan. #mimfilmfest #alllocalallmelbourne #supportindiefilm
