11.01.2022 TRAGIC NEWS COMING FROM THE TARKINE RAINFOREST IN TASMANIA. The forest blockage which the Bob Brown Foundation has maintained for the last few years is current...ly being dismantled by Forestry Tasmania. Police are mounting an operation right now to climb and remove a protester from a tree sit high up in a 500 year old tree. These beautiful trees will soon be destroyed solely for the production of pulp for paper. 6 in 10 trees will become waste as they are too old and are not suitable for milling or pulping. 6 IN 10. Globally this is a terrible tragedy, as we cannot afford to lose any more old-growth forest in an age of species extinctions and this ever-escalating climate crisis. On a more personal level, this is deeply distressing for us as we have spent countless hours climbing and photographing these ancient trees, relaxing in the tranquil understory and sleeping in the beautiful canopies. The truly sad thing is that this is only one of many sites within the Tarkine which will be logged. We need to take action immediately to prevent more forests from being destroyed. After all, if you feel trapped in the same syndromes... for decades, you have little to lose by trying something else. But it’s really hard, isn’t it? After all, we consist of our sensibilities, our experiences, and our hopes. We have our ideals and we want to live up to them. Does this mean that we’re wrong? No, it doesn’t. But it does mean that we need to adjust and find where our ideals and our circumstances overlap. We might want to be somewhere else in our hearts, but we might not be able to get everything we want. We have to search for where our hearts and our possibilities intersect. I know it’s difficult. But sometimes, when we find ourselves falling into the same traps, we simply have to walk a different path.
