23.01.2022 Happy Mother’s Day to all Mums, Mums to be, and Mother figures of any description. Thanks for all you do. Our thoughts also go out to all the Mums who are no longer with us, you are missed. We also think of those who are eager to be Mums - days like today can be a challenge, be kind to yourself a little bit more today
18.01.2022 Something I read and thought was a good one to share - strength and growth come from many different decisions and behaviours.
13.01.2022 Many of us are guilty of it. Fairytales are in part to blame. We paint this picture in our mind of how it will feel to be pregnant, to have a baby to be a mum or dad. We think falling pregnant will be easy and in our complete control. We anticipate a pregnancy glow. The total bliss of a newborn. We envisage how we are going to be that story book parent. Then when you experience the surge of hormones during pregnancy, and after, the sleep deprivation and the overwhelm of learn...ing how to meet the needs of a dependent child it can feel like you are treading water barely able to stay afloat. It can feel like you didn’t do enough preparation, read enough books, and that you are failing. Please know that you are not. That this is okay to feel. That becoming a parent is a massive adjustment. As your sense of self, your skill set and your knowledge leaps into another gear it can be overwhelming. What you are feeling is the stuff that isn’t in the fairytales, but should be. Because it’s real and common. Hang in there, lean on your supports, talk to your health providers and know that you are not in this alone. You are who your child needs and you can do this - asking for help is a strength not a weakness. I hear you. I understand. See more
12.01.2022 Something clients often say to me is I’m wasting your time my issues are so small compared to other people’s... they should get your time. For me, this could not be furthest from the truth. I never sit there and compare people’s challenges. For me, someone’s challenge is their challenge and it matters. It is affecting their life and we need to address it. If working with them can make a difference then that is all that matters. At no point does it ever enter my mind that... this person shouldn’t be seeing me and that their issues are too small for my time. There is no scale I place people’s difficulties on. Similarly if you think doing maintenance work or proactive work is wasting my time, then again please know it is not. This is valuable work, important work, work you deserve to do. So if this is you and you either feel this way when consulting with your therapist or thinking this way is preventing you from getting help due to embarrassment that your challenges feel insignificant, then please know this does not ever even enter my mind. You matter - you need to believe that too.
02.01.2022 Such a great thing to remember as we experience personal challenges. Often we come out the end with more skills, more experience, more resilience and more self-awareness. Challenges, while difficult and overwhelming at times, do often offer an opportunity for growth.
