23.01.2022 Is stress a biggie in your life? Do you also have some stubborn weight that just won’t budge? The two may be interlinked!!! One of the many impacts of stress on the body is that it can significantly impact your ability to maintain a healthy weight and even prevents you from losing it... When we perceive stress, ‘Cortisol’ the stress hormone is released in our body which then triggers our response mechanism to cope with the situation. So, cortisol plays a positive role But when stress is always present, our body becomes overexposed to ‘Cortisol’ and this is not so good for the waistline You see cortisol is also a significant appetite stimulant. It makes your body think that you have burned through calories to deal with the stress, (although you haven’t) and so you then feel like replenishing those calories by eating more (although you don’t need to) You tend to overeat and this can then become habitual Moreover, you tend to crave for unhealthy foods, which is why you tend to reach for comfort foods like biscuits, cakes and chips instead of fruit or salad when feeling stressed. Researchers have established that the excess calories consumed due to elevated cortisol and stress tends to cause fat deposition around the abdominal area which is the hardest to lose and can cause other cardiovascular diseases. 22.01.2022 Another one of my favourite nutrients for this time of year is zinc. It has powerful immune-boosting qualities, improving communication between cells in the imm...une system and boosting the activity of macrophage and natural killer cells, which kill off virus-infected cells and tumour cells. So, it can play a powerful role in stomping out sickness faster than your body would normally manage to. It's effectiveness in reducing the duration of the common cold and flu, now sees zinc as a common addition to many over-the-counter cold and flu preparations. You can naturally increase your zinc consumption by including red meat, seafood (especially shellfish), legumes, seeds, and yoghurt. But ... it's important to know that there are dietary issues that can block its absorption. A diet high in grains can be problematic due to the high level of phytates (a natural plant chemical in grains) which can bind to some nutrients. Excessive alcohol consumption can also wipe out zinc. So how do you know if you need zinc? Conditions such as dermatitis, alopecia, diarrhoea, emotional disorders, appetite disorders, weight loss, recurrent infections, slow wound healing and neurosensory disorders can all be an indicator that you are deficient in zinc. So, if you are experiencing any of these issues or want to just generally boost immunity, this is a great nutrient to think of!

21.01.2022 Attention.... ladies who want to rely less on discipline to hit health goals!!! You may have heard that discipline is the key to weight loss and change. Sure, if you are a disciplined individual, that will work for youbut what happens if you aren’t? Does that mean you are doomed to fail? Not necessarily... There are plenty of things you can do to support change even if you don’t have discipline 1) Believe in yourself as much as you believe in others. A good strong dose of self-belief acts like a primer. It will give you the confidence you need to keep you moving across the line 2) Create the right mindset. One of the reasons so many people break their commitments is because they give themselves wriggle room to opt out. They don’t truly make the decision. They don’t cut off other options. They tell themselves they will try. Create the right mindset for success by absolutely buying into your goals. And then continue to remind yourself of that commitment every day 3) Create a big enough WHY. If you have a big enough reason to change, you are much more likely to stick things througheven when it seems a little tough. So work out WHY you want to change 4) Replace a bad habit with a good one. Cutting out a bad habit can be hard, but when you replace it with a more positive one, you can get more traction. This appeals to how our brain is actually wired 5) Take consistent action. Even if it’s just a little bit each day. Eckhart Tolle This quote perfectly defines that stress can be very common to everyone; all of us are busy running after too many things at a time and never satisfied with what we have, that’s how stress originates. With the many different roles they take on, WOMEN especially are exposed to stress-related problems. I have had plenty a lady tell me that they are often feel overwhelmed with time pressure and unmet e...xpectations... and a heavy sense of obligation and responsibility to do well in the numerous roles they juggle. This feeling can create a sense of failure, thereby causing additional stress. As soon as we perceive stress, our adrenal glands release the stress hormone called ‘Cortisol’ in our bloodstream. Have you noticed that surge of energy in your body when you confront something beyond your control? That my dear is a Cortisol hit! Together with adrenalin (the other stress hormone), It causes an increase in the heart rate and blood pressure. 17.01.2022 You have decided to diet...again. But that piece of moist, sweet chocolate cake is calling out to you? You feel torn! We've all been there. Whatever you're craving for - , , - you are not alone. We all know how hard it is to not give in to our cravings!... Here are four simple but proven tips for dealing with cravings. #: Water helps you stay hydrated and it helps your stomach feel full. It naturally suppresses your appetite. #: Planning your meals ahead not only saves you time, it can save you from craving unhealthy food as well. When you plan your meals, make sure they balance your macronutrients to keep you full and satisfied. Create a grocery list...and stick to it. Avoid buying junk foods and keeping them around the house. Stock up on healthy snacks like fruits and salads instead. AND...don't shop on an empty stomach. #: Research has shown that a craving typically lasts for 25-30 minutes. When you delay your impulse for at least 5 mins, it starts to decrease. So chill, and let it pass. #: Break down your meals into smaller ones. Eat small frequent meals throughout the day instead of having three large meals. This way, you have a full tunny and fuel in your tank all day long. PS ...and remember to balance macros and include good fats and protein in each meal

16.01.2022 One of the culprits for being overweight is emotional eating. We eat when we're happy. We eat when we're sad. We eat when we're stressed. We even eat when we would actually prefer a reassuring hug, but food will do. Emotional eating is our gateway to getting relief from hurt, pain, and anxiety. It calms us, soothes us and fills the void. When we emotional eat, we tend to reach for sugar rich, carb rich foods....they trigger the release of serotonin in the body, a chemical whi...ch makes us feel calm and happy. BUT... a short term dose of calm is then replaced with long term guilt and remorse...and the pain of sabotaged health goals. If emotional eating is railroading your weight loss goals or plans to improve your health and energy, it's time for a new (and more productive) alternative to dealing with emotions. A few simple strategies include a walk in the park, playing with your dog, chatting to a friend, taking a relaxing bath, or practising mindfulness. Tune in for more strategies later this week. 09.01.2022 When's the last time you checked in to see what your body really needs? I'm talking serious tuning in... pushing aside all the self-talk... the should's, the mu...st's and have-to's and actually listening to what your body, your mind and soul really need at this present moment? When we don't take the opportunity to tune in, sometimes our body can actually force us into a state where we have no choice but to do what our body needs. I've just had one of those weeks... After multiple sleepless nights tending to my sick little one, and still pushing forward to get all the "super urgent" tasks crossed off my to-do list, I ended up getting sick myself. It slowed me down for a few days, but I was still able to push through and keep plugging away at the multiple projects I'm working on (LOL do as I say and not as I do!!!) I got over it, picked up the pace even further to make up for a little lost time...and then got sick again!!!! Stop in my tracks sick. Couldn't get off the couch sick. Had to send Ziggy for a sleep over type of sick. I don't often get sick, and when I do I usually bounce back quickly . But not this time. This time, I was forced to absolutely STOP in my tracks. It's what my body needed. It's what my body had been trying to tell me for weeks, but I just didn't listen, because life was so busy. And after finally doing what my body REALLY needed, I feel better, clearer and lighter than I have in a long time! At some stage, we all get stuck in the trap of thinking that we can just tune out and ignore the messages of our body. The busy-ness in our lives acts as white noise that drowns out our innate intelligence. BUT, the thing is.... It's only ever temporary.... Eventually, it does catch up with us... And the result is that we end up crashing harder and for longer than if we'd given ourselves a little honesty and self-love earlier on! So...take a minute to silence the noise, to go within and ask yourself..... what do you really need at the moment... Do you need to slow down? Take some time for R&R? Do you need to be kinder to yourself? Do you need to change some habits? Maybe change your diet so that you build health instead of erode it? Tuning in helps us build connection, develop intuition and supports us in becoming the master of our own wellbeing!
