25.01.2022 Ladies, do you know that in your lifetime you will have around 450 periods. That adds up to more than 11000 tampons and pads per person ending up in landfill and waterways/treatment facilities. Tampons and pads contain many ingredients, some are downright nasty, and as the manufacturers don't have to disclose the ingredients, its hard to know exactly what they are. What we do know is that tampons and pads contain chemicals, fragrances, adhesives, pesticides and bleach. This... chemical cocktail disrupts our endocrine system and messes with our hormone balance which has the potential to cause irregular cycles, heavy periods and dreaded PMS. Some more facts- - A regular pad contains around 4 bags of plastic. - Cotton is a heavily spayed crop, accounting for 25% of the insecticides and 10% of the words pesticide use. Cotton is also genetically modified (Gm) with 85% of tampons on the market a gm product. - Some tampons and pads do not contain cotton, but contain rayon which is a synthetic fibre. -Chlorine is used as a bleach and produces dioxin which is a toxic substance linked to endometriosis, breast cancer, and impairment of the endocrine, immune and reproductive systems. So ladies be mindful of what goes into your body, reduce your exposure to toxic chemicals and choose organic and natural tampons and pads. Another natural alternative is a menstrual cup. Reduce your environmental footprint, and save money with a one off purchase. This product can be used over and over for a number of years, contains no chemicals and to top it off, is Australian made and owned. See more

16.01.2022 Last nights Four Corners program "Swallowing it" has yet again raised confusion and suspicion regarding complementary medicine. If you are confused or unsure about the supplements you and your family are currently taking and have any questions, i am happy to discuss this with you. It is important to get professional health advice from a qualified natural therapist, and not to self prescribe with vitamins, minerals and other supplements. Practitioner only brands are evidence b...ased products and can only be dispensed by a practitioner. They are high quality, therapeutic products prescribed with a correct dosage for a specific condition. A retail product that you will find in a supermarket or chemist are usually poor quality products with extremely low active ingredients and sold by sales person who will generally know nothing about the product, how it works, what it will do and how to take it correctly. So........do you know what you are taking? See more

16.01.2022 Amazing avocados Nutrient dense, beautifully rich and creamy, and high in fibre. Avos contain good amounts of vitamin C, K, E, multiple B vitamins including folate and the minerals potassium, magnesium and copper. Avocados are also high in oleic acid which is a heart friendly monounsaturated fat (MUFA), which is also found in olive oil, and has been shown to reduce inflammation, and have a protective effect on some cancer genes. A diet rich in MUFA also helps to balance in...sulin and glucose levels. Used topically or ingested, the fat soluble vitamins and antioxidant phytonutrients in avocados are also great for eye health, shiny hair and healthy skin, its one of nature’s best moisturisers. Being a good source of vitamin C, which assists in the absorption of iron, avos are also great for vegetarian or vegan meals to make iron more bioavailable. 14.01.2022 Whatever your word of choice, be it bone broth or stock, rest assured it is one in the same. Bone broth (made famous by the paleo fad) is just a pumped up, glamourised term for the humble, centuries old stock. Broths are extremely nutrient dense, easy to digest and contain a range of minerals and health healing properties. The nutrients that are released from the bones while slowly cooking include calcium, magnesium and phosphorus (levels of these nutrients are widely debated... and research suggests they are not as plentiful as some have claimed). On the up side its rich in gelatine which heals and protects the mucosal layer of the gut, glucosamine which stimulates collagen production, repairs joints and reduces pain and inflammation, and the amino acid glycine which supports the immune, digestive and nervous systems. I slowly simmer my stock for a minimum of 10 hours or until the bones begin to break down. Nothing better than filling the house with the smell of homemade chicken stock. #chickenstock #bonebroth #digestivehealth #nourish #nutritious #nutritionist #mindbodynutritionlisa #foodie #lovefood #jerf #foodismedicine #eeeeeats #foodasmedicine #freerange #organic #foodporn #foodpics #immuneboost #delicious #glycine #glucosamine #gelatine #collagen #guthealth #chickensoup #nutrients #eatgoodfeelgood #homemadefood

13.01.2022 If you’ve had a hard year of work or study and want a good excuse to catch up with family and friends, you’re probably excited for the holiday period which is j...ust around the corner. However, there are many reasons why the holiday period might not be as happy or joyous as we would like. For lots of people it can be a difficult time of year, but it can help to know you’re not alone in feeling like this. It’s important to know how to cope with this and how to look after yourself during this time of year. Yesterday, a number of young people logged on to our online group chat session to talk about getting through the holidays with our eheadspace clinicians. 10.01.2022 We all try to eat healthy and get enough exercise, but being healthy is not only about the food you eat or the exercise you do, it is also your mindset and mental wellbeing. Everyone is crazy busy in our day to day lives so it is important now more than ever to focus on your overall health and wellness. Take time for yourself to switch off and find your happy place, even if it’s only for 3 minutes each day. For some it can be yoga, meditation, music, the outdoors or just a q...uiet comfy place to sit. Ask yourself these questions. What makes you happy? What relaxes, and calms you? Where do you feel alive? How can you bring balance to your world? For me the answers to these questions are nature and water. Nature can be very calming and bring a sense of balance. The world somehow seems to slow down and you can see the bigger picture. Nature is associated with many aspects of wellness, including reduced symptoms of stress, depression and anxiety, reduction in ADHD symptoms, better functioning immune system and quicker illness recovery times, improvements in positive outlooks on life, concentration and productivity, and of course the added bonus of some much needed vitamin D. Next time you’re outside in the bush, park, National Park, the beach, lake or even in your own backyard, take the time to stop, look and listen to what nature is doing around you. Concentrate on the birds singing, rain falling, water crashing on the shore, breeze blowing through the trees, the ants, butterflies, bees or cicadas doing their thing, or even the stars in the night sky. Take the time to stop and appreciate how beautiful and healing nature is and what this appreciation can do for your mental health and wellness. . #mindbodynutritionlisa #healthandwellness #theoutdoorpassion #livelife #pursuitofhappiness #findyourhappyplace #findyourlight #vitaminsea #vitamind #aussiebush #naturesfinest #naturephotography #relaxingday #innerpeace #mentalbalance #mindset #winddown #healingnature #destressing #theresetbutton See more

09.01.2022 Chia pudding with gluten free vegan granola and fresh berries I absolutely love chia seeds, they’re so versatile and easy to use. Chia seeds are high in protein, fibre and omega 3 fatty acids, in addition to numerous essential micronutrients. The granola is full of nuts and seeds, providing more protein, fibre, good fats and micronutrients. 08.01.2022 Not a huge Jamie Oliver fan and although this is UK based, Australia is not far behind. According to the NHMRC, 62.8% of Aussie adults and 25% of kids were overweight or obese in 2015. That's huge!! Its time we all started paying more attention. Some parts of this are quite confronting.

03.01.2022 We have been told for years now by manufactures that diet drinks and artificially sweetened drinks are healthier choices, despite the growing research which disputes this claim time and time again. This large study was released this week and shows a clear link to increased risk of stroke, dementia and Alzheimer's disease. The best alternative is and has always been water.

03.01.2022 Cherries are fantastic. Not only do they taste great but they contain good amounts of fibre, vitamin C, vitamin A, folic acid, potassium and calcium. In addition to these vitamins and minerals, cherries also contain high levels of powerful antioxidants, most notably Anthocyanins, Quercetin, Cyanidin and Melatonin. Melatonin is also extremely effective as a sleep aid and regulating the sleep-wake cycle. These antioxidants also have anti inflammatory properties and research su...ggests they may play a role in the prevention of heart disease and cancer. Research has also found that gout sufferers who consumed 1/2 cup of cherries daily reduced the risk of a reoccurring attack. Drinking tart cherry juice has been proven to relieve pain from inflammatory osteoarthritis and reduce post exercise muscular pain. 02.01.2022 What does a nutritionist do? I get asked this regularly. A nutritionist is a natural therapist, highly skilled in food and nutrition and understands the biochemistry and physiology of the human body and the interrelationships between health, imbalances, deficiency, disease and chronic conditions. Many conditions can be treated naturally through diet and lifestyle. As a natural therapist i take a holistic approach and treat the body as a whole, not just the symptoms. This allo...ws us to dig deep and get to the root cause of the problem, giving the body a chance to heal itself. Using the principle "food as medicine" an individual treatment plan will be formulated incorporating your needs and goals. Do you have a health concern? Are you ready to make that change? 01.01.2022 There is much truth to this. Naturopathic nutrition encompasses the body, mind and soul. It's so much more than just food.
