24.01.2022 More than 3,000 Australians take their own life every year. Imagine what we'd do if 3,000 people were getting gunned down on the street in this country? The gea...rs of the nation's entire political system would be straining, trying to solve it. But say '3,000 suicides', and that same system turns its back. The fact is, we don't have the best mental health system we possibly could. We can't honestly claim to be providing the right care to everyone who needs it, when they need it. Only when a person is in real crisis do they get help. And by then, it's often too late. I don't ever expect to be able to save every life but for God's sake, I think we could do a lot better. Our mental health system isn't working. We have to admit it. And we have to fix it. That's exactly what we'll do.

20.01.2022 One of the best predictors of how much you get out of therapy is how you feel about who you’re going to see. Goodness of fit is essential to good therapeutic outcomes, so shop around til you find someone you’re comfortable with. #therapy #psychologist #mentalhealth

20.01.2022 Finding the right psychologist is a bit like app dating. You hope it'll be a good match, but sometimes you're left disappointed. This is a good read on how to approach finding a psychologist and what to do if it’s not a great fit. #mentalhealth #psychology

18.01.2022 Acceptance and Commitment Therapy guru and all-round lovely bloke Russ Harris has made his #mindfulness resources available free of charge...yes! Would also recommend a YouTube deep dive into Russ’ work, especially ‘The Struggle Switch’ as we navigate the mental health impact of the pandemic. He’s got a great way of explaining things and ideas we can all benefit from. Thanks Russ!

17.01.2022 Getting support for your mental health is no different to going to see your gp when you’re physically unwell or seeing a Physio when you’ve strained that muscle!!! #therapy #counselling #stigma #psychologist #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealth #menshealth #blokespsychology

17.01.2022 Today is #mayeight. It’s a day to celebrate your mates, and maybe say G’day to a mate you haven’t checked in with in a while A Movember Foundation Australia... study found 70% of guys didn’t reach out to a mate when they had problems because they thought it was something they just had to ‘suck it up and deal with’. Studies also show Aussie men are less likely to reach out to help services and for support. Is today also a day for you to take the step of reaching out to a mate? Tag a mate you’re thankful for, let them know you’re there and spread the #mayeight love

16.01.2022 We look forward to the upcoming royal commission into mental health; a long overdue opportunity to rebuild Victoria's broken mental health system and to hear the views, personal stories and lived experiences of all who have been involved in the current system.

13.01.2022 This is a good read on how to support someone with anxiety/panic attacks. Given that 1 in 4 of us will experience anxiety at some stage, I’d recommend giving it a skim!
