06.01.2022 Same fruit different profile or same person different personalities get it? Good! Confession. I discovered pretty late in life that raisins are dried grapes. How late...I shan't say I mean I'd always eaten them in fruit cakes and as snacks when I was younger but never cared to think how they were manufactured. So I know there's a few people reading this thinking wow...I just learnt that. You don't have to confess but the pleasure is all mine Grapes contain about 80% ... of water while. Raisins only contain 15%. With dehydration the sugars within grapes becomes concentratedand as a result, the calories go up. 100g of raisins contains approximately 320 calories while the same serving of grapes contains only 69 calories. For people who are trying to lose weight, a fluctuation of 250 calories can make a big difference in achieving weight loss goals. Likewise, those suffering from diabetes or other conditions in which sugar/carb consumption is an issue should be mindful of the concentrated sugars in any dried fruit. Please note that dried fruit is still fine to eat especially as a snack. Just be mindful of the portion sizes. According to the Australian guidelines - 1 standard serve of fruit = 1 cup of fresh grapes or just 30g of raisins. Daily fruit recommendations are 2 serves. 04.01.2022 Are you going Cuckoo for Coco? Coconut Yoghurt seems to be a big trend at the moment. I get inspired to create these posts to clear some misconceptions that some of my clients have. A lot of the time people switch to these products because they 'sound' healthier and I don't blame them. Food manufacturing companies have become really smart on ways to influence your buying. So if you have no dietary or ethical issues with dairy consider a good quality low fat Greek yoghurt i...nstead. They are loaded with protein and calcium. Ps. That 3.3g sugar is lactose (natural sugar) found in dairy. #chobani #highprotien #lowfat #breakfastyoghurt #lowcarb #swapitsaturday #coconutyoghurt #foodcomparisons #swapitdontstopit #foodswaps #weightlossstrategies #mindfuleating #newfoodtrends #brisbanedietitian #brisbanenutritionist #ndisprovider #ndisdietitian #eatwelllivewell #lowcarbsnacks #lowcaloriesnacks

03.01.2022 Is breast best or do you think thick thighs saves lives? Most people love a chicken thigh because it is slightly more tender and flavorful than chicken breast. This is because of its higher fat content. Breast is indeed best for people trying to lose weight or trying to up their protein intake. It's characteristic high protein and low fat content make it a popular cut.... Im sure we have established by now that the skin packs a whole lot of fat and calories. Kindly note that these values refer to chicken thighs in its raw form. Once you start cooking it in oil or adding marinades or sauces, you increase the total calories, carbs and fat. I always advise to remove the skin BEFORE cooking as the oils from the skin seep into the meat during cooking.
