19.01.2022 Life is a challenge. It’s also an opportunity. Being human means that we can find ourselves in the uncomfortable position of needing to balance thoughts, feelings, and actions. However, often our mental, emotional and behavioural patterns are habits formed outside of our conscious awareness and are based on past events, anticipation, our fears, rather than on the truth of the moment before us. More so, these patterns are generated to protect us, not to make us happy! Th...is protection can present as worry, anxiety, self-loathing, fear, inadequacy, rage, judgement, jealousy... Identifying and coming to terms with these often un-known parts of ourselves is akin to revealing our shadow side.. and can be an unsettling experience. This is what the art of mindfulness can begin to illuminate, but more importantly, if we engage in the process of understanding the thoughts and feelings that motivate us, the shadows are better understood as a projection from some source of light. -Through recognising and acknowledging our shadow-selves, we can begin to trace a path towards the light and begin to open our hearts. Each of us has our own set of shadows, of patterns in relating to the world around us. Taking the time to pause and get to know them, as painful as it may be, are moments which can transform our understanding of who we are and what we are capable of. 12.01.2022 For fast-acting relief, try slowing down -Lilly Tomlin . Finding the balance between thoughts, feelings and physical experiences can be a challenge in our multi-tasking, success-driven lives. From time to time we may notice our ‘inner speed limit’ and be aware that we are due for a mental, emotional or physical ‘speeding ticket’. After days and weeks and years, all this hurrying saps a great deal of our mental, emotional and physical energy, leaving us less productive, more e...motionally volatile and more muddled in our thinking. . Now brace yourself.. I’m going to use a word that most will find highly uncomfortable. Could becoming comfortable with slowing down, pausing, s t o p p i n g actually be a possibility? Yes, s t o p p i n g! And if so, what could it open up, make clearer, preserve in your life? . By slowing down our physical body, we can impact the speed of our minds. Becoming calmer can make us more productive, more engaged, and more available to others. What if you were to try it just for one day? Stop, take a breath or two, feel what it is to be alive. Slow your walking. Pause before talking. By slowing down we are offered the opportunity to reconnect with the spark of openness, clarity and warmth that is the centre of our Being. . We have the capability to discover our own internal rhythms through mindfulness practice. And we know we’ve begun to find a healthy balance when we feel our own restlessness, speediness or tension begin to lower and when the tasks that we are engaged in become more enjoyable. .
