18.01.2022 BECAUSE SUNDAYS ARE FOR ENJOYING FOOD! I used to binge eat on the weekends. Everything and anything, and then delve into a pool of guilt and shame the next day. Not to mention spend the whole next week punishing myself in the gym to work it all off. Now I realise how that was on my mental health, and what that meant for my mental health. Because I used to always say no to food, because eating certain foods was bad and off limits. But really I was putting these unrealistic lim...its and restrictions on myself psychologically that made me want it even more every time I said no. Hence the binge to get it all in. Because come weekday, that was a big no-no! And that’s not a good eating habit. That’s not a behaviour I would want for my children or my clients to see or use for themselves. Because it doesn’t work and makes you feel worse off. What I have learnt, is to say yes to foods that I want. Yes, and that it’s okay to have it. But as with anything I think awareness is key. Awareness as to why I am wanting that certain type of food, and if I do great! But then awareness of how much I’m in taking and not to go back to that no, it’s bad and off limits’ mentality. 16.01.2022 FASCIA - the second layer of your body that you never knew you had. A thin layer of connective tissue made up of collagen, water and nerves that surrounds your muscles, organs, blood vessels, bone and nerve fibres. Fascia helps to hold the body together, provide movement, flexibility and allows our muscles to grow. But from poor posture, sedentary lifestyles, trauma, infection, inflammation or surgery this can all cause the fascia to constrict, create tension and for pain to... build up in the body. Our movement becomes limited, other muscles start to compensate, we begin to feel stiff, restricted in movement and low in energy. The body can only take so much before an injury can occur. I used to think meditation was all about thinking no thoughts, attaining stillness and peace of mind. But my mind has a million tabs open each as loud as the other. 09.01.2022 For some help with those lower back pain niggles, here are some of my go-to stretches you can do at home! The key is to work with your breathing, slowing it right down. Feel each movement, make it deliberate and controlled. - CAT COW STRETCH Start with your hands stacked under your shoulders and your knees in line with your hips. Breathe out and curl your back, push the floor away from you and round out your spine. Taking a breath in, arch your back, pulling your shoulders... back and keeping your belly pulled to the your spine - repeat a few times. - COBRA STRETCH Lying on your stomach, place your hands in line with your shoulders, drawing your elbows back. While breathing out, slowly push the floor away from you raising your chest up. Keeping drawing your shoulders back and down, squeezing your bum. Be careful not to go too high and into the lower back - repeat with breath. - DYNAMIC BIRD-DOG In a table top position. Hands stacked under shoulders, and knees in line with hips, draw your belly button towards your spine. Breathing out extend your opposite arm and leg away from each other. Make sure to keep torso nice and square. Push through the heel of the back foot. Repeat for each side. - HIP FLEXOR STRETCH In a lunge position, make sure to keep your pelvis tilted in. So tuck your tail bone, squeezing your bum. The small of your back should be nice and neutral. Breathing out, lean forward into the stretch. You should feel a nice stretch across the front of the hip. Hold for 30 seconds each side. - LOWER BACK RELEASE With one leg extended out, bring your other knee nice and tight into your chest. You can also rotate and roll that knee around in small slow movements to help give a little more release.
