25.01.2022 Anxiety Feels... As humans we have a unique evolutionary advantage, with minds that can project into the future, solve complex problems and generate creative ideas that transform what is possible. However, this unique talent comes at a cost. ... With minds that are free to time travel between past, present and future, we get excessively caught up in future thinking that creates unnecessary worry in our lives. The truth is, we often have very little control over our thoughts; in many ways, our mind has a mind of its own. The untrained mind jumps from thought to thought, like a monkey jumping from branch to branch. In mindfulness meditation training, this is referred to as ‘the monkey mind’. Although we can’t completely control what thoughts will come to mind, we can choose how we relate to them, and this is life-changing. The capacity to better manage our minds and avoid getting lost in negative thought loops is a crucial skill that helps us become more resilient, better able to bounce back from challenges and not get stuck in negative thinking and emotions. Just as our immune system protects us from toxic bacteria and viruses, regular mindfulness practice protects us from unhelpful thinking and rumination by helping us develop awareness of what is happening in our minds. With this enhanced clarity and awareness we become masters, rather than the slaves of our minds... For anyone struggling with their mind and keen to give mindfulness a go, we have a 5 day mindfulness program available to start now. 21.01.2022 Here are four steps to overcome your social media addiction with mindfulness: 1. REFLECT Take a moment to reflect on your relationship with social media. Are you happy with the way you are using it? Do you feel you might be a little addicted? If you find yourself scrolling through Facebook until the early hours of the morning, the answer is probably yes.... 2. SET AN INTENTION You have to be intentional about changing your relationship with technology. Think about practical steps you can take to make it more difficult to get hooked. Consider taking the social media apps off your phone and commit to sleeping without your mobile in the bedroom (even for just a few nights). 3. RECOGNISE The next time you feel the urge to check social media, take a pause. Recognise you are caught in craving and count to ten before continuing. This can interrupt the urge. 4. INVESTIGATE When we crave anything there’s usually an uncomfortable emotion we are trying to escape through pleasure. Take a moment to bring your attention to your body. Sense any emotions or feelings that are present (agitation, stress, loneliness, boredom). Once you identify the emotion, silently label it to yourself which brings more mindful awareness to your current state and shows you what the underlying issue might be that is driving the urges. 5. UNHOOK Mindfulness, this ability to be present from moment to moment, allows you to consciously notice what is happening as it is happening and pause before you act on your urges. You can disrupt your automatic habits and social media addiction with mindfulness. Becoming aware of your cravings is the first step to having more choice around how you’re going to relate to them. Mindfulness is a practice that will help you catch the urge before you act on it and help you break bad habits. If you want to train your brain towards greater presence, less distraction and better impulse control to help break bad social media habits

16.11.2021 For women and girls in mountainous regions of Nepal, collecting water can lead to treacherous climbs. The solution? Piped systems bring clean water from high above down to communities and schools below.... Since 2012, the Mindful in May community has funded clean water for people around the world. In 2021, with the help of our community we exceeded our fundraising goal of $100,000, with these funds we will be able to help over 2000 people gain access to clean water.

13.10.2021 How are you choosing to grow in 2022? As humans, we’ve been gifted with a limitless capacity for growth and transformation through the powerful technology inside our heads, which, supported by the right training, can be an engine driving us towards enduring happiness and wellbeing. It is the very nature of our brains to be continuously sculpted by experiences, and science clearly demonstrates that what we regularly practise gets reinforced through the brain’s exquisite ca...pacity to adapt and reconfigure itself. However, the form that adaptation takes depends on what exactly it is that we are practising. When we practise worrying, the worrying circuits of the brain are reinforced. When we practise gratitude, the brain becomes more capable of noticing the good in our lives. When we practise mindfulness meditation, it forms new neural pathways that support focus, calm and emotional balance. Let us know in the comments below how you choose to grow in 2022.
